Survive As The Brute’s Wife - Chapter 132
Alexandra was happy to hear that Maximus received so much love from his father. He tried to protect Maximus from his mother. But she remembered Maximus saying that he was sent to live in that stone mansion in the mountains when he was very young because his mother didn’t want him in the Royal city.
So she asked about it. Flavia had a complicated expression when she talked about it.
The Emperor loved Maximus so much, but he fell ill. The Chief Priest of the Temple of the Dragon King foretold that the throne is vying for the heir to sit on it since the heir is the original owner of the throne.
It was then the assertion that Maximus being the reincarnation of the Great King started to circulate. Many interpretations of the Chief Priest started to circulate. Because of Maximus’ strong affinity to his throne, the throne tried to remove the obstacle that was keeping Maximus from the throne. And that was why the Emperor got sick.
The council of the ministers convened to reach a decision. The Chief Priest’s prophesy was discussed. It was decided that keeping Maximus far away from the Royal City of Lathlin would help with the health of the Emperor.
The Emperor was very against the idea of sending away his only son. He was not willing to let his son go, even if everyone else believed that it would help with his health. But even the Emperor had to agree on sending away Maximus when he learned of the plot Theodora conspired against Flavia to kill her.
Alexandra was angry that no one told these details to Maximus. He was a boy, but he would have understood the reason they are doing this. But no one told him and he didn’t say it, but he must have been under the impression that even his father didn’t care for him and sent him far away to live in seclusion.
Alexandra wanted to hug him as she understood him more.
“Flavia, the stone mansion… I remember seeing some places covered with cloth…” Alexandra asked.
When they went there, he was not happy with that place. She wanted to know if there is a reason for that.
Flavia bowed her head as she remembered those days. “Maximus was living there for almost a decade. He would have nightmares and he would cry saying that a bad man with black hair and amber eyes hurt him… And as he grew up, he hated seeing his reflection in the mirror. He would get angry and would break all the mirrors and so… there are no mirrors there. And all the reflective surfaces were covered with cloth .”
Alexandra now understood a lot. He must have started getting his memories back and since he was very young, he must have been scared and confused about everything.
[Ah, dear Maximus! What have I done!]
Alexandra rolled in the bed, feeling sorry for everything. She even wondered if she did wrong by opting to start over a new life.
She just pushed him to do this when he didn’t sign up for any of this. The trauma he should face as she defied the natural order, combined with the trauma he faced as a child, he must be very hurt.
Lying on her back, she stared blankly at the ceiling. She wondered how she could correct everything she did wrong. She wondered if she is being selfish by putting Maximus through this suffering. She is immortal and she would skid around through all eternity. But Maximus only has selected life. She has already ruined two of his lives by his association with her.
There is one way to solve everything. She wondered if she should just make Maximus forget everything so that he would be at peace.
He would forget everything. The past, the present… he’d forget her…
Her throat closed as the thought that Maximus would forget her came to her mind. She closed her eyes and drops of tears rolled from the corner of her eyes.
[But at least, he will be peaceful!]
She placed her hand over her face to cover it. She wanted him to be happy. And if removing herself from his side would achieve that, she wondered if that would be a good plan.
Her heart went heavy and her eyes stang as she had no more tears to spare.
In this situation, she didn’t even think about herself. Because, she had a traumatic past too. She didn’t even stop to consider that must have contributed to the problems she is facing. And another thing she didn’t consider is MAximus’ feelings. She might think that staying away from him would help Maximus attain peace.
But will it?
Can she correctly predict what will happen once she puts the spell of forgetfulness on him to forget her and everything around her? Would that be so simple?
Love is a powerful thing. It makes fools out of the cleverest and makes the bravest out of the cowards. Love involves heart and heart is fickle as they say. Sometimes, heart conceals the strength within and makes someone act stupid, and at the same time, for some, that gives the blind courage to do what they won’t usually do.
And which path is Alexandra choosing?
When Maximus came back, Alexandra was sleeping deeply. He was surprised she is sleeping in her evening dress. He inquired Flavia if she had had her dinner. His eyebrows furrowed knowing that she didn’t. She’s been very tired these days. He didn’t understand why.
«Could she be pregnant?»
An unimaginable fear swallowed his heart. Fear that made him think that he might lose her forever. She is not of this world and her children would be the grandchildren of the Dragon King and they will be taken to him. And in that case, wouldn’t she follow her children to the heavens?
« No, she cannot get pregnant!»
He concentrated his mana to the hand and hovered it above her abdomen. If there is another life inside her, as a product of two people with high mana, the child would have high mana too. He could detect the presence using his mana.
What was he planning to do if there is another life inside her? He didn’t think that far. But he was sure he didn’t want that. He forgot that life inside her would be a part of him too.
His hand hovered over her belly and he concentrated, closing his eyes.
“Max,” he was disturbed hearing Alexandra’s voice. “What are you doing?” she asked.
Maximus pulled back his hand immediately. Seeing her furrowed brows, he didn’t know what to say to her.
“I…” he gulped. “I wanted to wake you up for dinner. And maybe we can go to the forest for the elimination of the monsters?” he asked.
He had canceled the hunt and thus stopped her from meeting with the Ministers. The Coronation is just a month away and he wanted her to get crowned as the Emperor of the Empire. A new empire with a new name.
He wanted to talk to her about it once more.
She said she didn’t want to be the Empress, and that she doesn’t like this place. But she has adjusted well in this place and she has learned to love this place. She even wanted to make friends with the other women in the Harem, but he is stopping her from visiting them.
He has sent a couple of women “away”. Julius had to deal with their families. And he is making sure the peace talk with the rebelling nations is not getting anywhere.
The whole realm should be under one rule – her rule! Arioch should watch it with desolation. He should writhe in pain. The same pain he endured when he saw the dead body of Alexandra. Arioch should feel the pain Alexandra felt as she was betrayed by luke. The same pain that pushed her to kill herself.
And then, knowing he could not do anything, Arioch should suffer the worst possible death.
That is his intention. That is his ambition. He will do that no matter what!
Alexandra saw the darkness in his eyes. She thought it should be this place. Maybe if she takes him away from this place that is filled with sad memories, they can get away. they can have their peace.
And she does have to correct the mistakes of her past anyway.
“Yeah, let’s do that,” she smiled. It was a smile from her heart.
She decided to try still. She decided to try to change Maximus’ heart towards peace. She wanted to correct her mistakes and convince Maximus to leave this place.
How can she live without him? How can she watch him forgetting her and living happily? She cannot allow that!
She was happy about her decision. She doesn’t have to leave him.. She can help him.
