Survive As The Brute’s Wife - Chapter 134
Everyone stood forming a semi-circle around the mouth of the cave, leaving some distance. Alexandra with the Hashomer shining in her hand was standing alert. Maximus stood by her side with his reliable sword, dependable as a mountain.
Kefir created a tornado that reached the sky. They were in the eye of the tornado. Whoever is inside the cave—whether it is just Morfan or Arioch is with him—cannot escape the swirling wall of wind that Kefir built.
Their clothes billowed in the wind. If they are not strong beings, they would have sucked into the swirling wall of wind Kefir has created.
Ithildin started the purification process. They are fighting against the darkness and light is the best form of defense against the darkness.
A rattling sound echoed from the cave. Upon closer observation, they figured that it is the sound of crushing rocks. Whatever is inside is strong enough to make that sound that would make any warrior’s heart melt to a puddle out of fear.
Alexandra turned to her side to see Maximus’ lips curving. That’s her Tubby, alright! He is the bravest warrior she knows. But the lust for confrontation in his eyes, and the haste in his hand that was holding the sword as he stepped forward made her furrow her brows.
He is very keen on confronting. He was never like that. Not the Tubby she knows. He was way too careful. He was too careful, even she appeared careless beside him.
Alexandra looked down and took in a deep breath. The ground beneath her feet was dry and lifeless. The feeling of nothingness would bring fear in the heart of anyone. That’s what darkness does. It sucks the hope out of the person making them lose their spark.
She held Maximus’ hand and signaled him to stay back. he knitted his brows as he was not very impressed. But she still held him back.
She could see that the roles have reversed in this life. In their previous life, she was in a haste all the time, to prove her worth to Luke. And at that time, it was Tubby who protected her. He tried to tell her that she is becoming reckless.
But this life, he is so keen on revenge, he has become careless. And she will protect him just like he did.
[It is my turn to protect Tubby now.]
Even with the brightness from Ithildin, the mouth of the cave became dark as a moonless night as the rattling noise got near.
Alexandra knew who that is.
“Morfan, where is he? Where is Arioch?” Alexandra asked.
She wanted to know if Arioch is there. Arioch won’t step forward and will try his best to save his skin, but she decided to draw him out if he is inside.
Morfan didn’t answer but the dark mist accumulated like a plume of smoke and within a moment, a creature stood in front of them. It had claws like that of a crab in its hands. There was a small wiggling thing that looked like a tongue in between the claws. Its face was like that of a fly with big eyes and its hide was made of the strongest iron plates. It stood on two legs and had a tail that made a snapping noise like a whip as it swayed.
Alexandra stepped forward but Maximus held her back with his hand and stepped forward. Alexandra didn’t think it was a good idea. His sword might have helped him in his war against humans, but it won’t withstand the strength of one of the oldest beasts.
And she knows how strong Morfan is.
Seeing Maximus approaching him, Morfan roared. The next moment, Maximus fell to the ground on his knees. The tongue-like thing in Morfan’s hands extended like a whip from between the claws. In that darkness, it shimmered like a cut diamond, dazzling, as it made its way towards Maximus’ head.
“Max!” Alexandra shouted.
With a swift lunge, she lunged forward and stood in the path of the approaching whip with the sword in her hand. Her sword can cut through anything but she cannot cut that thing fast approaching her.
When it is cut, it regrows into two. And so does Morfan’s head. If Morfan is sliced into two, he’d just stand up back again and there will be two Morfan’s to fight with.
She did the mistake of slicing him the last time and that was the reason she was unable to kill him. She had to resort to sealing him off because she got bored of fighting him for long.
But that didn’t work out very well as he is out and about now. And so she has to kill him.
Killing him without slicing him…
Alexandra had an idea. But she needed to distract Morfan from Maximus. She created a shield in front of her that stopped the whip attack. Morfan was not pleased and with two of those tentacles, he started hammering on the shield, roaring like an angry bear.
At that time, a devastating thing happened. Alexandra heard a small snap and she realized that the spell she put on Maximus to protect him from the darkness has broken.
Morfan has broken it.
Before she could put the spell back on, she saw Morfan’s darkness seeping in through Maximus’ nostrils. With a scream, Maximus knelt on the ground, holding his head.
“Stop!” she screamed and built the spell back on, but she noticed Maximus’ molten gold eyes turning dull and grey.
[He’s affected!]
Alexandra’s heart skipped a beat. She wouldn’t have worried if it was Tubby there. He could have handled the attack from Morfan. But Maximus’ heart cannot handle darkness as he already has darkness in them.
“Ithildin! Flush him off the darkness!” Alexandra commanded before turning her attention at Morfan. He cannot think he would live after trying to touch her beloved.
Ithildin is not the most powerful beast, but he has an affinity towards the light. Tubby must have been able to summon Ithildin in his past life because of that. But now, considering the darkness residing in Maximus’ soul, Ithildin won’t be that strong.
But light can flush out darkness even if it is weak. That is the allure of light. Darkness will have to retreat in its presence.
“Sekwi! Turn him to ashes!” She summoned the phoenix. It appeared almost immediately.
If she cannot slice Morfan, the next best thing that can kill Morfan is fire.
“Kefir, aid Sekwi,” she asked Kefir who now has turned to his beast form.
The combination of wind and fire would work well and Morfan won’t stand a chance. Ithildin had pulled Maximus back to help him and Alexandra ran to him.
“Max!” she called. “Do you hear me?”
By now Ithildin was successful in stopping the darkness reach Maximus’ heart. Alexandra knelt beside Maximus. His eyes were gradually reaching their golden shade. Placing her hand over Maximus’ chest, she looked for his acknowledgment.
Morfan’s screams from behind her were music to her eyes as she tended to Maximus. She took a glance. Dawn is fast approaching and the creature of the night will try and retreat before the first light of the sun. She will have to stop his retreat and end him.
Arioch would get a big hit without Morfan to support him.
Morfan was burning like a torch by Sekwi’s fire and Kefir was fanning the flames, literally, with his powers. Morfan was screaming as the fire affected him. She heard some powerful calling from the distance and she realized it was Inanis. He was screaming at his servant to kill her and release him.
[Well, tough luck, Inanis! I am not planning on dying.]
And she did not fail to notice how Inanis can communicate with his servant. She had sealed him in the Orb, and he shouldn’t be able to contact anyone.
It’s been ages since she had sealed the darkness. The seal must have weakened. And Luke tried to release Inanis during her last life.
The situation has gotten direr. Inanis is close to getting released in this realm. And if he is released, he will destroy the realm she loves just to gt back at her.
[I cannot let that happen!]
Alexandra made sure Maximus was safe by helping him lean on a rock.
“Don’t let him mess with your head, Tubby,” she said and kissed his lips. While doing so, she healed the little damage in his soul caused by Morfan.
The blank stare Maximus gave her didn’t give her much hope. He still is not fine. She didn’t think Morfan would get to Maximus. But it seems like he was planning on attacking Maximus all along for his Lukyan blood.
After all, the blood of a Lukyan is needed to release Inanis from the Orb.
She now got more motivated on killing Morfan. After asking Ithidin to not leave Maximus’ side, she walked to Morfan.
Her clothes fluttered in the wind and she could sense Kefir’s struggle. Sekwi started to get weak too. She lend them her mana and she stopped seeing it getting sucked by Morfan.
[Morfan shouldn’t be able to do that! He won’t be able to handle my pure mana!]
Dread filled her heart as she observed closely. She tried to raise her shield to reduce the stress of Kefir and Sekwi, but she couldn’t. She knew she is losing.
She started to feel weak. Her eyes darkened as her chest tightened.
[No! Not this! Not now!]
