Survive As The Brute’s Wife - Chapter 136
Maximus tried to find out how he could get to the sky where he is hearing Alexandra’s voice. But he was rooted there. He couldn’t even move.
But he saw the dark clouds parting and up in the sky, like a moon, he saw his beloved Alexandra.
“Lexa…” he muttered, his voice meek as he felt like something is seeping inside him, mingling with his very blood turning it cold.
Alexandra told him something. Something he couldn’t understand. He just saw her lips move. The place he is at swallows everything.
Then he felt a wetness on his lips. The entire place started to burn. He started feeling warm once again.
‘…Tubby!’
He heard her calling his name. She uses this name often now. And he loved her for it. When they are having their alone time, she would call him by this name assuring her that she is in love with his soul.
«I don’t know where I am, Lexa… But I will come to you soon!»
He decided to find a way to get out of here. He knows his wife knows the way. He was about to talk to her.
“You must love your wife so much.”
The soothing voice that seemed broken as it was filled with a cocktail of emotions made Maximus look to his front. It was just a glance, an acknowledgment that he has heard the voice of the woman he thought was so beautiful some moment ago. But oddly, she didn’t have the allure he thought she had just some moments ago.
He was surprised at how soon his heart has changed, but he was happy about this change. Before he could answer her, the sky turned gloomy once more, hiding his wife’s bright face from him.
His heart sank. This cannot happen. He cannot get stuck in this place.
“Tell me how I can get out of this place, please,” he asked the woman.
She is the only other person in here and he wanted to try and leave.
“I can show you your future, Maximus,” the woman said.
Her eyes were mesmerizing and her knowing smile piqued his interest. She looked like she holds the secrets of the universe and his future wouldn’t be a mystery for her. The innocence in her blooming face, made him drop his guard, again.
He was always interested in knowing what his future holds. He wanted her and she is his. He has no doubts regarding his love for the daughter of the Dragon King. What gave him insecurity is his inevitable short life compared to her long one. Even his children would be more powerful than he is and what kind of life it will be?
It surely won’t be a regular one.
He forgot the urgency of his situation and for a moment, he didn’t even care where he is. and what he has to do. He wanted to know what his future entails.
The lady with the light source for hair gently urged him to look in the basin where the water got filled from the jug. Maximus walked where that lady pointed, leisurely, with his hands sweeping by his side. For a warrior, he felt no danger around the lady, and he let go of every thought that belong to him.
He wasn’t even taking it as a red flag. He wasn’t caring. He felt truly peaceful and curious. He stood by the basin and there was only a dark, thick liquid that was so ten, it appeared as a mirror.
He looked at the lady and with an empyrean smile, she pointed at the basin once more, with her long-sleeve gliding over her little hand.
Taking in a deep breath, he bent. He saw nothing but the reflection of his face on the clear dark surface of the liquid. He didn’t have time to think about how the clear water that got collected in the water basin turned dark. He didn’t even stop to think that there might be something else going on here.
As Maximus looked, ripples formed on the still surface of the water. His face distorted and the darkness was replaced with brightness. His heart that was pounding with anticipation started to calm down as he saw the smile on Alexandra’s face.
Laughing, Alexandra was running through some garden. He was chasing her. He wasn’t sure if it was the past or the future as he has seen her with that exact smile in their past life.
She doesn’t have the same happy smile now.
But watching her donning that bright smile, made him hopeful.
Then the scene changed. And the palpitations in his heart increased as he saw darkness surrounding the rims of the basin. He had a feeling that something dreadful is going to happen.
And so it did.
He saw Alexandra. Her face was filled with disgust as he looked at him. Her long wavy hair was fluttering chaotically in the wind, just like his heart was restless.
‘I won’t bear with you anymore…’
She said and riding on Kefir, she disappeared into the bright sky. She didn’t even look back at him and vanished.
Maximus held his chest. It hurt like he had swallowed a thousand needles. He couldn’t believe that she is going to leave him once again. That too she leaves after hating him. He couldn’t believe she would do that.
The visions didn’t stop there. There was more.
This time, they were on a battlefield, standing off.
There was destruction and chaos around him, but the one standing in front of him with her golden armor was his wife. With the Hashomer in her hand, her golden hair was fluttering in the wind as she didn’t bother to wear a helmet on the battlefield. Her beasts were surrounding her. The dragon, the lion, and the phoenix all stood behind her.
His lips curved up. This is how he wants to see her.
But then a figure crept up from behind her, and his smile vanished. It was the guy who now wears his face.
Arioch!
Before he understood why she was standing on the same side as Arioch, she stepped forward with her sword pointing at him.
He felt a punch in his heart—no it was not a punch—he was stabbed!
Stabbed by the Hashomer, right through his heart!
‘Now we end this,’ she said, her eyes glowing with a silvery texture.
“Gah!” he pushed himself back unable to bear the pain in his heart. He could feel the sting of her blade cutting through his flesh. But more than that, what hurt him more was the fact that it was Alexandra who plunged that sword in his heart, that too, in front of Luke.
It was as if… she took his side because… that’s what she did all her life and the reason was…
Maximus knelt on the ground holding his head.
«It can’t be. She can’t be in love with him still. How can she?»
“Things of the past returned as things of the future can be avoided by turning the future today.” the soothing voice of the lady irritated him. “The gears won’t stop moving but you can always change the direction the gear moves.”
He was not comforted by that voice that made no sense. It made him mad.
“Shut up!” he gripped the throat of the woman who had knelt to his level to talk to him.
Her face started to flush by the force he was holding in her throat. Her petite hands started to hit on his hands that were almost fisted around her slender throat.
“You lie!” he roared. “This is all a lie!”
The lady’s eyes started to get bloodshot as she got suffocated. The force she used to hit Maximus reduced. And slowly her eyes rolled back and she appeared to have fainted.
Only then did Maximus let her go.
He couldn’t believe what he saw. What he didn’t want to happen happened in the “visions” he saw and so those visions must be false.
The lady was sprawling on the floor, like a sweet flower that was harshly trampled by a beast. She was coughing and regaining her life little by little.
“You can change the future,” she said after sitting up.
Maximus looked at her with his brows furrowed and fists clenched. “Who are you? Why should I trust you?” he asked.
He realized he didn’t even ask for her name only then.
“I am Calantar, the giver of light. I show the path,” the woman introduced herself. “Alexandra…” she smiled like how she always did. It was as if she was so filled with light that she didn’t even bother to keep it in her heart that this is the man who tried to kill her just now.
She reeked of innocence and light.
“My wife is what?” Maximus asked.
This woman’s aura was so mesmerizing, he didn’t even bother to pull away from her. And she genuinely wants to help him. How could he deny her?
“She is known to us by the name Arimelda,” she said.
Maximus released the last wall of defense he had raised against this mysterious woman when she said that. If this woman knows his wife, then she should be a friend, he figured.
“And she cannot die,” she added.. “Contrarily, the one who kills her—the one who has her permission to kill her—gains control of what she remembers in her next life.”
