Survive As The Brute’s Wife - Chapter 137
“What do you mean by that?” Maximus asked.
He was confused. But she made sense at the same time.
He started thinking. She didn’t go into details on how they were able to meet this life when he thought that he had lost her forever. He tried to, but she didn’t tell him everything about her.
«What this woman says… It is possible… she might be able to control her death. Isn’t she the daughter of the Great Dragon? It should be possible. This woman should be right! »
“If I kill her, I can make her forget Luke?” he asked the woman.
Last life, she killed herself. And she didn’t forget Luke this lifetime. In fact, she killed herself because she couldn’t even bear Luke’s betrayal. She accepted him probably because she wanted to get back at Luke in her own way. Or worse… she did it out of pity!
«No! She cannot pity me!»
In Maximus’ mind, everything made sense now. She is not as keen as he is to get back at Luke. She is still hesitating. She wants to “move forward” and “not look back” as she says. But who knows what she is thinking?
And he knows for sure that death cannot stop her.
And so, he decided to give it a try. He decided to listen to the woman.
He decided to kill Alexandra.
What he didn’t know is that he is getting trapped by the manipulations of the Darkness. The weakest man is the man who has something dear to his heart. The fear of losing the dearest thing makes any man a fool and a danger to himself and others.
For Maximus, Alexandra’s love is his everything. Since it involved her, and the insecurities he had with her love, he forgot everything and let himself get manipulated. And the little understanding he had of Alexandra contributed to his misunderstanding. He didn’t know of the divine aspect of her much. She never talks about it.
The truth is, Alexandra does have some control over her deaths. She is an immortal and she won’t face death as humans do. She has control if only she takes her life. She can control her life the way she wants if she is the one taking her life. If others took her life, she will die. then it would be her father taking control. And her father… will wipe her memory and keep her safe in the heaven where she belongs.
The Darkness knows that. But Maximus doesn’t. And yet he decided to listen to the darkness.
As he reached that decision, the sky cleared up and he could see through a rosy shade. He held his sword and walked towards her. He looked at her blue eyes, calm like the deep blue sea—completely opposite to what he is feeling.
And those eyes—they could sing a thousand tunes without even trying to.
He saw her eyes. And her pink lips that were pressed to a disappointing line. Her eyes turned angry.
«She does not appreciate this!»
He understood that. His hands that were holding the sword started to waver. He did decide to start anew. He can kill her. Make her forget Luke, and start over a new life.
Simple, right?
Except, it wasn’t very simple for him. To piece something sharp through her heart… That image of her lying in a pool of her blood came to his mind.
He doesn’t have the strength to see that again.
He didn’t know she could come back then. And he took his life behind her. But now he knows death is not the end for her. And for him.
And still, he couldn’t go through with it.
Hurting the one he loves?
IMPOSSIBLE!
He drew back his sword. He saw Alexandra turning her back to him not minding his attack stance through his bloodied vision.
That’s the trust she has for him.
He relaxed his hold. He can deal with his insecurities somehow. Killing her is not the right way to solve the misgivings they have.
As he reached that decision, he felt something dark creeping around him. His vision got blurred and his grip on the sword tightened. Without his acknowledgment, his hand started to move.
He looked down to see his hand and what he saw scared him. He was just a plume of smoke—a dark figure—that swallows anything and everything around it. He was scared of himself.
There was a loud noise that gave him a splitting headache.
That image he foresaw—the one where Alexandra stabbed him through his heart—replayed again and again in his head.
He tried to scream for Alexandra to look back, but she was not. That showed the trust she has for him. Her back was entirely facing him and his hand has lost control.
‘Kill Her!’
A deeply malicious voice echoed around him, and he turned to his side to see the woman who looked like a chipped part of the moon until then, looked like a malicious witch. Her eyes were glowing red and her luminescent demeanor was now replaced with gloomy darkness.
Slowly her dark hair encircled around him and he couldn’t even move. And his body started moving on its own. More like… the woman has started controlling his body.
Regret clouded his heart making him freeze for a moment. But as his sword slowly raised against her back, trying to pierce through her, he knew he has to act.
His head started to throb as he tried to fight back. The groovy voices, the scary images all surrounded him to make him unable to act. The image of Alexandra plunging the Hashomer in his heart looped over, angering him, diminishing his spirit, and demeaning his love for her.
He struggled against the darkness controlling him. He couldn’t. He saw the darkness inside him getting darker.
«Who will set me free?»
He screamed in his heart as he realized he needs help to get out of this bind. But who can hear him when he is bound in darkness?
—–
Inanis is trying to get Maximus’ body for his reign on the realm, Alexandra realized and it enraged her.
“Let him go!” she shouted turning her back at Maximus. She trusted he would be able to be free of the darkness. He won’t listen to whatever the darkness tells him to do.
And she needs to reduce his stress. If she occupies Morfan, she could turn Inanis’ attention towards her. And she could sever the connection Morfan has with Inanis. She hoped her father would descend and aid her if she is in danger.
He bothered to descend to stop her from consummating her marriage with Maximus. She hoped he’d have the same reaction when she is truly in danger.
But against his old friend… It is doubtful.
What she remembered hearing about Inanis was that he and her father were the first beings in the whole universe. And so, they are equally powerful, and opposites. Her father was the epitome of light and creation, while Inanis was excellent in darkness and destruction.
While her father was creating things, Inanis helped him destroy the unwanted things and so they were working together. But after the creation was completed and her father wanted to rest, Inanis was not content. He wanted more dessstruction. But everything around the universe was pristine and nothing warranted destruction.
And so, he started wandering around and started destroying the creations. Her father was at the time resting as in, he got married and started a family. Alexandra’s mother told her about the big fight Inanis had with her father after he knew that her father had married one of his creations.
And his destructive streak continued. He started destroying entire realms out of anger. Her father was mad, but not mad enough to confront Inanis. He just repaired the damage. Inanis was left wandering around in his angry streak of destruction with no control.
That is until she imprisoned him using spells she created.
She did that of her own volition, with no help from her father. It was tough and it drained her entirely.
And now Inanis is filled with much more hatred than before and wants to destroy her.
It is acceptable and she would fight him as much as he wants or she would have even apologized or ended up making a deal with him. There must be a place or two in this universe for Inanis to be free.
But he shouldn’t have dared to touch her husband. And since he dared to, he cannot live. She didn’t even know if Inanis can be killed. But she will find a way.
No one touches Tubby and lives! No one! Yes, and she cannot let Inanis hurt the other humans she loves too.
She needs to win this fight.
“Ha-ha-ha!” Morfan’s attention turned towards Alexandra.
Alexandra gripped her sword and thought of the spells she could use. She didn’t concentrate on her back. She didn’t bother with Morfan’s laughter either.
And so she missed the sword that is getting swung at her back with the intention of killing her.
