Survive As The Brute’s Wife - Chapter 138
“Bow to me, Morfan!” she commanded and stuck her sword into the ground. The containment spell she cast formed a silvery net and dropped over Morfan restricting his movements.
The deeper her sword got inside the earth, the lower Morfan bent and he ended up on his knees.
“Arimelda! Behind you!” she heard Kefir shouting and she turned. She is weak at watching her back and she remembered Maximus standing with his drawn sword behind her.
She had faith he won’t hurt her, but if Kefir shouts for her…
The moment she turned, she saw Ithildin pushing Maximus away from her. The sword in his hand clanged against the dry ground. Maximus was emitting so much darkness and Alexandra knew that he has lost control of himself.
She saw a string of darkness that was connected to Morfan. And she knew what is happening. Morfan is channeling his darkness to Maximus and making Maximus do as Inanis wishes.
And Inanis wants her dead.
“Tubby!” she called using her authoritative voice. She tried to bring him back. She wanted to see if he can regain his control back.
But seeing the man struggling with Ithildin to get free and with his eyes red, wishing for her demise, she got more enraged.
[Where is my Tubby? What did he do to him?]
Ithildin spread his wings and from him emitted the brightest of light that could fight off the darkness inside Maximus’ soul. Ithildin is his summoned beast and they are connected in the spiritual plane. Alexandra hoped this would work out and she lend some of her mana to Ithildin.
Ithildin’s last try to free Maximus of the Darkness failed and he was thrown back completely engulfed in darkness. Ithildin didn’t even have the strength to stand back. Kefir who was spent too, stood in front of Alexandra to protect her as he knew Maximus is going to come for her next.
“Kefir, take care of Ithildin and Sekwi,” she said. Sekwi is unable to move and she wanted Kefir to help the beasts.
Kefir got to Ithildin first to keep him away from the darkness as the darkness is hurting him more. Without the mana from Maximus, Ithildin was draining his powers fast. He needs to leave.
The moment Kefir left her, Alexandra saw the dark plume darting at her at the speed of light.
“Stop!” she held out her hand and used the same containment spell to stop Maximus from getting close to her. He was secured in a magic net and he struggled to get free.
“Tubby..?” she took a step closer to him.
His red eyes looked at her and he growled at her like a beast thirsting for blood. Even his face had black veins popping out that ran throughout his body diminishing his handsome appearance. He was not recognizing her and there wasn’t even a little wavering in his hands anymore as he tried to slash the net and get free.
Alexandra realized that if she doesn’t hurry, she will lose Maximus forever.
Her hands trembled as a wave of fear washed over her heart. In her moment of distress, Morfan had cut through the spell she bound him with and stood up.
Alexandra turned at him and walked to him. She was very mad. This creature and his boss have reduced her handsome husband to nothing more than their lackey.
“Shut up, Tubby!” she pushed Maximus away from her, and he fell back, still bound by her spell. She didn’t have the heart to look at her husband who is now entirely under the control of darkness.
“You dared to…” she said and gritting her teeth, ran towards Morfan.
Morfan was pleased that she is coming at him. And she was angry and that makes her do something stupid. That’s how he almost beat her the last time. And he was happy that he has found out her true weakness. The last time, he couldn’t figure out her weakness but now… she is as good as defeated.
His glowing eyes squinted as he planned for his attack. But before he could snap her into two, his eyes widened with surprise. And in those dark eyes, the last thing that got reflected was a bright blue flame.
And then there was pain and screams, as he got engulfed in the divine flames that devours darkness.
“Is that she..?” Sekwi asked Kefir who was staring at the petite figure standing with her entirety engulfed in blue flame.
He has never seen her using the devine flame before. “Is the Dragon King here?” Sekwi asked confused. He couldn’t feel the Lord of the Light’s presence anywhere near them.
“No, it is her doing,” Kefir’s lips curved up to a proud smile. “She has finally summoned the divine flame.” He uttered unable to hold back his smile.
She has the power to summon the Divine Flame, but out of the respect for her father(his opinion), she wouldn’t summon the fire. But this is a dire situation and she found a way to summon the flame. He thought the weak state she is in after spending too much time in the mortal realm would render her powerless to summon the divine flame but she still has it in her.
It is good.
Morfan was screaming in pain as his flesh was falling from his skeleton unable to bear the strength of the flame. The voice of Inanis that was coming from the distance was heard no more as every bit of Morfan was slowly getting burnt to a crisp.
Kefir nodded seeing Ithildin pulling Maximus farther away from her. The flame she is handling is very powerful and it won’tdifferentiate who has darkness. It would exterminate all darkness without any consideration.
Maximus’ darkness is not leaving him. And a little contact with her would burn him to crisp like Morfan.
Alexandra stood there. Her hair was glowing blue and in her hands were blue balls of the flame burning. It didn’t affect her body as she is void of darkness and she is the seed of the Dragon King. It is her innate capacity to withstand the strength of the divine flame.
Still engulfed in blue flames, her attention turned towards Maximus as every bit of Morfan had been blown to ashes. Morfan is no more and he cannot terrorize anyone anymore.
Alexandra couldn’t even see the form of Maximus as he was totally engulfed in darkness. There wasn’t even a single bit of light in him that she could amplify to save him.
[Oh, Tubby… Oh, my beloved!]
She could only lament in her heart. She didn’t know what she could do to rid of the darkness. Because the darkness has mixed with his soul, she cannot destroy one without destroying the other. Just like the water that is mixed with milk cannot be separated, Maximus’ soul cannot be separated from the darkness.
She didn’t lose hope. She wanted to save Maximus.
“Tubby…” she stepped closer to him. She knew stepping closer to him with the flame still on her might be detrimental. But she wanted to scare the darkness away and reveal at least a bit of his soul. Once she sees Maximus’ soul, she can rescue him. She hoped Tubby could listen to her call.
“Tubby, come to me. Your Lexa is calling…”
—–
Maximus looked around him. He was sitting in a dark room hugging his knees. Or it could just be a small chest. There was no light around and he could see nothing. He didn’t know where he was and how he should escape. Everywhere he looked was pitch black. It was as if he was engulfed in darkness.
He tried to stand up, but his head hit on something. It was as if he was trapped in a box and he couldn’t get out. He tried his best to get out, but he failed. He felt weak and tired. He wanted to close his eyes and rest. He closed his eyes and rested his forehead on his knees.
It was then he felt a familiar presence. He knew who it was. It was at the tip of his tongue but he couldn’t say it out loud. This very important person.
His heart hurt and he placed his hand over his chest. And in that pitch dark, he saw a light. A faint blue light.
‘Tubby…’
He heard a familiar voice and he saw a small opening that let in the light.
«Should I follow the light?»
The gentle voice was calling out for him. But he was a little apprehensive of the voice he is hearing. He didn’t remember what happened to him and he wondered if this voice is friendly or not.
‘Tubby!’
This time the voice was authoritative and he could recognize this voice. His heart started to palpitate and his head hurt. He felt a burning sensation around him and the blue light started to spread around him. He raised his head and there was nothing to hold him back anymore. He could stand up. The box that was trapping him had started to retreat.
He watched as the blue flames wrapped around the darkness surrounding him and he felt like a weight was lifted from his shoulders. The blue flames suppressed the darkness around him and slowly the darkness got smaller and smaller until it turned into a small box.
But then he started screaming. His knees went weak and he knelt down.
“Burns… It burns… Stop! Help!”
