Survive As The Brute’s Wife - Chapter 141
“Ah, Hloima leaves…” Alexandra said slapping her hand on the table. She just now remembered the scent of the poison in the tea. “Oh, now I know why you agreed to meet me!” Alexandra smirked.
Theodora’s face went pale for a fraction of a moment before she regained her gracious posture.
“What is that? Holima leaves..?” Theodora asked, shifting to sit more comfortably in her chair. Her long lashes quivered but she held her eye contact with Alexandra.
Alexandra smirked. “No, It is Hloima leaves. It is used as a contraceptive medicine… you know to…” she pressed her lips not wanting to get too blunt.
“No, I do not know. A contraceptive?” Theodora turned her attention at Lydia. “Do you know what she says?” her voice was calm.
Alexandra realized that Theodora is trying to push the blame on her maids. She didn’t want an innocent to lose their life in Theodora’s schemes. But she wanted to leave a warning to Theodora.
“Never mind,” Alexandra waved her hand. “I could be wrong. And Hloima leaves lose their potency when they are mixed with tea. Tea leaves neutralize the poison and it is good for adolescent boys,” she said.
“Marcus, you can have it,” she passed her cup to Marcus full well knowing that Theodora won’t let that happen.
The drug Theodora used will cause infertility in women when reacting with tea and for men, it is a toxin. It would affect their reproductive system first slowly affecting their kidneys causing serious illness. For adolescent boys, this effect is multiplied and it might even get fatal.
Marcus the loyal servant accepted her tea immediately.
*Clang*
Alexandra flinched as everything on the table was pulled down by Theodora. With a heaving chest, Theodora threw the tablecloth on the wet grass and stomped on it. The hot tea had spilled on the grass and some of the cups were broken. The snacks were all spread everywhere.
“Oh, so it is not good for me?” Marcus asked, his big green eyes widening. He looked at Alexandra .”Or does Empress Dowager wants me to drink it? Wait, she wants Your Royal Highness to drink it so you could get hurt? What is going on?”
The scared voice of the little boy made Theodora madder. Her son is asking that cruel question in front of her. He is getting manipulated by the witch there and thinks of his mother as evil.
How can she accept that?
She started to break the unbroken ceramics. Alexandra stood up and got the cup from Marcus.
She didn’t expect Theodora would behave in this way.
“I think she does not want you to drink this,” Alexandra said and threw the cup on the ground for it to break into pieces.
Marcus who would gladly stand to her front, defending her, stood closer to her as he was a bit scared by the way Theodora was losing herself.
The garden was filled with the noise of the breaking ceramics for some time. Alexandra looked at maid Lydia who was still burying her head in her chest. Saucers and teacups splattered all around and finally after breaking the teapot, Theodora stopped.
Her eyes ended up at Marcus and the boy trembled and stepped closer to Alexandra. Alexandra patted his shoulder to comfort him.
She asked him about his mother. He said that after his brothers’ passing, his mother had lost her mind. She dislikes everyone including her father and him. Marcus was extremely sad when he rehashed the day when his mother threw a hot cup of tea on his face and called him the son of a murderer. She told the then nine-year-old him that he is not her son and that he should never come in front of her again.
Marcus said that whenever he tries to get near his mother, she would get violent and would throw things at him.
Marcus thinks that his mother is sick in her mind and that is what making her act this way. But Alexandra knows the real reason. No woman would be able to accept the love child of her husband as hers when that child’s mother killed her children.
It is just not possible.
But Lady Zoros is taking it a bit too far by lashing out on Marcus who had no part in everything Theodora did.
Isn’t it Lord Zoros’ and Theodora’s fault?
And now Theodora is doing the same thing that traumatized little Marcus. Theodora is throwing stuff around, making Marcus panic.
Alexandra pushed Marcus behind her. “Have you calmed down, Theodora?” she asked, her voice laced with mockery.
This woman who looks like the humanoid form of a graceful swan, for whatever reason, let her son see her unsightly behavior. Alexandra didn’t think that Theodora loves Marcus more than Maximus as he thinks. She doesn’t love anyone.
Anyone except herself!
She could maintain her decorum if it would affect her lifestyle, but she could not maintain it in front of her children she tries to impress.
What a selfish person! It is better for Marcus to not know the truth! It is better that he thinks that his mother is Lady Zoros and that she hates him only because she is unwell.
Yeah, it is better for that boy this way.
“It is all your fault, witch!” Theodora lunged at her. “Drovarys? You are a witch! You manipulate people and turn them against me! You turn them to hate me! You expected this, didn’t you?”
“That’s enough, Theodora!” Alexandra held out her hand.
A ball of water formed in her palms and Alexandra projected it to Theodora’s face. It collided on the face before Theodora could react and the result was the graceful swan standing amidst broken ceramics, with her mouth wide and her entire body drenched with cold water.
It was funny to watch… at least for Alexandra. It is cool to have awesome powers.
Her jaws started to chatter because of the cold, or it could be that she is that mad. Alexandra didn’t care.
“Are you cold?” she walked closer to Theodora.
Theodora who was frozen solid till then suddenly started to scream. Alexandra realized that this has become too much for Theodora. She asked Marcus to wait for her at the gates of the garden. Marcus, this time, did what he was told without any refusal.
He is terrified of screaming women and this woman who is supposed to be the dignified mother of the Emperor is screaming like a banshee. He was terrified. He didn’t want to be there.
“No! Marcus! Do not leave. Stop!” Theodora tried to talk to Marcus but the boy ran out of the garden as if a rabid dog was chasing him.
“Leave him alone, Theodora,” Alexandra said, mainly to turn her attention towards her.
“You!” Theodora turned and ran towards Alexandra. “It’s your fault! Tell him to get back. Tell him that I am not his mad mother and that you put a spell on me to act this way!”
Theodora tried to get close to Alexandra but Lydia stopped her.
“Your Royal Highness, please calm your heart. Please-”
*Slap*
A loud slap echoed in the garden as Theodora slapped the young maid and the maid fell on the ground. Alexandra smelled blood as the broken pieces of ceramics sank inside the palms of the maid and she started bleeding.
“This is enough, Theodora!” Alexandra shouted.
The ground shook and a shock wave passed through the garden. The birds all got scared and flew away and even the insects went silent.
“This is enough!”
“What? Why?” Theodora gritted her teeth. “End her life, ye great one! I have her right here. Just end her!” she started shouting raising her hands to the sky all of a sudden.
Alexandra let out a sigh.
“Is he the one you are searching for?” she flicked her finger and a silvery cage appeared in front of them. Inside was a dark misty creature that Theodora calls for help.
“The dark mage. Isn’t that what he is called? What was his name? I don’t remember. Anyhow,” Alexandra scratched the back of her head. “Isn’t he looking dainty in this bird cage? I heard the Dowager is fond of birds. You can keep him if you want…” she smirked as she was pleased.
She truly forgot his name. And as she was talking to Theodora, she was able to capture him. He wanted to escape. But she didn’t want to let him go. He might be useful.
The Dark Mage who was held captive in the cage made a rattling noise as his skeletal fingers grabbed onto the bars of the cage.
“Witch!” Theodora’s eyes went dark as she glared at Alexandra. “You are a witch!”
“A witch? That’s interesting. I wonder what is wrong with me being a witch though,” she asked walking closer to Lydia.
She helped Lydia to get up and with a pat on her shoulder, she used a healing spell to heal all the wounds in Lydia’s body. She didn’t feel like she should be hiding who she is anymore. She didn’t even know why she was so adamant on hiding who she is.
It is liberating to be true to oneself!
The next moment , Alexandra was engulfed with the blue flame from head to toe.
