Survive As The Brute’s Wife - Chapter 148
Lady Zoros stared at the tea. “Who are you, really?” she asked, with a furrow between her eyebrows. She has heard the servants speak a lot about this mysterious wife of the Brute. And she never imagined that she would get a visit from her. And she seems to genuinely care for Marcus.
“You’ll hear a lot about me soon,” Alexandra smiled.
She has done a lot for this realm and this time too… she will have to take charge.
“How will I know it is not poison you added in this tea?” Lady Zoros asked.
“You don’t. As I said, you don’t have to do it. I wish you don’t drink it and deal with your problem face on,” Alexandra said. “Talk to your husband. And don’t forget to look at that boy who grew up in your house. Look at his face and… smile at him once in a while…That alone would make him exhilarated.”
“He looks a lot like my husband, doesn’t he?” Lady Zoros gripped the teacup. “He would follow me around calling me mother…” her lips curved up and a drop of her tear fell inside the teacup. “I was cruel…I had to remind myself at times when I waver that he is not my son. I told myself that he is hers… Do you think it might not be late..?” she asked.
Alexandra nodded. It is apparent that Lady Zoros has thought about accepting Marcus a lot of times because she loves her husband. She understood her. Marcus is a cute boy. What’s not to like about him?
It must have been her pride and her hate for Theodora that stopped her from accepting Marcus.
Lady Zoros picked up the teacup and let out a sigh. Alexandra hoped that she would deal with it by talking about it with her husband and accepting Marcus as her son willingly. He is listening to them for some time after all.
Drinking the essence of forgetfulness is the shortcut and shortcuts are not always the best way to handle a situation. It won’t work well in the long term.
“Do not drink that!” Lord Zoros ran inside the room. His eyes met with Alexandra’s and his eyelids trembled. He was filled with fear.
“Shouldn’t you be fighting against the enemy in the Temple, Lord Zoros?” Alexandra asked. Arioch has already sneaked inside the temple and got to the inner circle where the Orb and the dark mage are. Lord Zoros must have received the information already and yet he is here.
Interesting.
Lord Zoros’ face paled. He didn’t know how this woman knows about this. His Majesty asked him to fortify the protection in the Temple but he is hearing news that the barriers have been penetrated by the infamous rogue Arioch. He was about to go to the temple when this woman shook his heart by destroying the Golden Throne in front of his eyes. And when he heard that she is going to meet his wife next, he couldn’t bear it and fainted. The moment he regained consciousness, he ran back to his home to see if his wife is well.
And it was good.
The Emperor will mount his head on a pike tomorrow as the first rays of sun fall on the ground, but he got to know what his wife truly thinks. He will die peacefully after spending tonight with his wife.
He might have loved Theodora in the past, but after she chose to marry the crown prince because she would become the Empress, he lost all love for her. But her beauty tempted him that day. With her eyes red, and heart filled with despair, as she sobbed leaning on his shoulders, he slipped up.
He regretted that day. He still does. But Marcus came out of it. He stayed away from Theodora after that day. Theodora was not willing to give up her status as the Dowager and he was pleased with it and brought Marcus back home.
Theodora, beautiful as she is, does not care about anyone but herself and her welfare. She does not have a single maternal instinct. But his wife… she is the best. And he was happy to bring Marcus back home.
But his wife didn’t take it well. And she never was the same. He never understood why his wife changed. He explained himself to her but she was not even listening and turned violent. He lost the wife he loved, but he didn’t understand why.
And at that time, Theodora killed his sons and he feared his wife might be next. So he had to maintain his contact with Theodora. He never stayed long with Theodora, and just talked with her. He thought he is doing what he doesn’t like for his wife—to protect her.
But now that he thinks about it… He wouldn’t have been pleased if his wife did the same. He did wrong to his wife. He cared only for himself and ignored the feelings of his wife. He didn’t even know how Theodora treated his wife. And he never even apologized. He failed his wife.
But this woman… is more dangerous than Theodora. She is way too powerful. And for her to get involved in this… he didn’t find that right.
“This woman… she just now destroyed the throne and now she wants to destroy me!” Lord Zoros shouted and pushed the teacup to the floor.
The contents of the teacup splashed on the floor and the cup shattered to pieces.
“Why would you care what happens to me? Don’t pretend! Won’t you be happy if I am dead?” Lady Zoros stood up and turned to leave the room.
“Stop!” Lord Zoros’ voice shook. He wrapped his arms around her from her back and pulled her closer. Lady Zoros struggled to get out of his hold. The room filled with the noises of the scuffle. Lady Zoros was clawing and stomping on his foot—doing everything she can, to get out of his hold.
Alexandra was in a hurry and she turned to leave. She understood that the couple will need their time alone to figure out their next step.
“I am sorry, Cynthia. I am sorry I hurt you. It was all my fault…”
Lord Zoros’s words reached Alexandra who was leaving and soon the noises of the scuffle subsided. What followed was the low sobbing of the Lady.
Alexandra let out a sigh. She was relieved that this is a great start for mending their marriage. And when their marriage is mended, Marcus will have a lovely family with parents who love each other and him.
“Come with me, Sir Marcus,” she called the boy waiting for her outside the room where she asked him to wait. “Your mother and father are talking. Let’s not disturb them now, alright?”
“Yes, Your Royal Highness,” Marcus followed her, although he was curious to know what his parents are talking about.
“We are going to the Temple, Marcus. What do you feel about riding Kefir with me?” she asked the boy. She could see that he is stressed. He is a boy and he should not be worrying about anything.
“I can?” he was surprised.
Alexandra nodded. She loved to see the smile on this boy’s face. She reminded him of the innocent Tubby she knew in her previous life. Tubby was fatter than Marcus, but, they have the same smile when they talk about the things they love.
But her thoughts turned to think about Maximus, and the small smile that formed on her lips vanished immediately. He is hurting her and doing the same mistake as Luke. For Luke, she willingly became the entertainer to show off her powers as his powers—for people to respect him. Now, Maximus wants her to do the same for others to see her.
But it is the same thing! And she didn’t want to be worshipped anyway. And the darkness that is spreading in his soul… he even proclaimed himself as the reincarnation of Luke.
He needs to be handled. His darkness needs to be placated.
And for that, she needs to get to Arioch. She needs to do what Maximus wants.
To show her power!
After recuperating for some days, Kefir has reached his usual strength. Marcus was sitting behind her and flying without a harness scared the boy and he hugged her.
The sky has started to get dark and she saw smoke rising from certain parts of the temple from below the ground. She figured Arioch and his men must have already reached the Orb.
She closed her eyes and took a deep breath. Through the eyes of her soul, she saw Arioch chanting some spells and trying to release the Dark Mage she had kept hostage.
She smirked as no one could break the spells she has contained the dark mage in. Her heart skipped a beat when she saw her spells weakening. Arioch’s magic should not be this powerful.
That’s when she saw the crack in the Orb. The darkness from the Orb- Inanis is trying to help Arioch.
[This is going to be tough]
Unlike Morfan, Inanis cannot be killed with the Divine Flame. He is equally as powerful as her father.
She landed at the top of the tower with Kefir.
