Survive As The Brute’s Wife - Chapter 150
“I am not angry,” Arioch wiped the tear rolling down her cheek. “It’s just that book is-”
“Oh, you’re not mad?” Alexandra’s face brightened up to a smile. “By the way, what are you trying to do with him?” she got out of his hold and walked towards the cage of the Dark Mage.
She didn’t like staying close to him. And she needs to make Arioch believe that she believes him.
“You are not trying to release him, are you, Arioch?” she asked turning swiftly.
She pretended she didn’t notice the anger in Arioch’s face disappearing immediately and he pretended to smile. A pang of pain passed through her heart. He must have done this in their previous life too, but she was too busy trying to get love from him, she refused to see the glaring signs that Tubby saw and warned her about.
“I didn’t like him and…” She clutched her skirt and her voice trembled. “I don’t know how, but I did it. I trapped him. I got scared and sent him here. Maximus told me he was keeping Inanis here… And I… Do you remember, Arioch? At the dungeons, Luke tried to…”
“Let’s not talk about that, Alexandra,” Arioch walked towards her.
He couldn’t understand what she is doing. He was told that she killed Morfan and she had the Divine Flame on her. The beasts were all listening to her, and she somehow saved Maximus too.
The Dark Mage told him all the details. And he was the one who urged him to reach the capital immediately. He even orchestrated all the plans with the Dowager so that he would get in to have a hold of the Choshech Orb. But he didn’t hear from the Dark Mage when he was outside and he thought if the plan has changed. But the people who were arranged to sneak him in were waiting for him and he was able to slip in undetected.
When he found the Dark Mage in here, he told her that it was Alexandra who did that. He was filled with fear and he recited the spells so that they can leave quickly. He thought she would have figured out who he is by now. He didn’t want to die in her hands. He wanted to release the darkness and gain the power to destroy Maximus.
He was not happy to learn that Inanis’ first choice was Maximus. Here he is, willing to take the risk and serve as a vessel for the darkness, but Inanis is desiring Maximus’ body because of the Lukyan blood. And so he wanted to kill Maximus first so that Inanis would choose him as the vessel—to leave him no choice.
MAXIMUS—that insolent person who stole his life, cannot be spared!
But seeing the dire situation, he was willing to postpone his revenge on Maximus and leave after getting the Orb. But Alexandra came here.
His heart stopped for a moment when he saw her, but her reaction… was weird. She didn’t act the way she used to in their last life. It was suspicious, but… he is sure that she is thinking of him as her “Tubby”. And it would be beneficial for him—this confused state of her will help him.
And he decided to make sure that she won’t be a danger to him. She could be playing with his feelings like in their last life. She was saying that she loved him, but her loyalty was with that guy. He didn’t want to be the other guy this life too. He wants her to be entirely devoted to him and do what he wants. She wants no other person around here who can distort her mind away from him.
Is it wrong for a man to expect devotion from his woman? NO! Any man would agree with him on that.
Since she thinks that he is Tubby, she will aid him to get what he wants.
He wants to be the Emperor, again! And so, she will help him, again! And for that, maybe he can be a little relaxed this time. He kept her in the background, and that made her rebel. Maybe this time, he will use other techniques.
Maybe he can keep her on the bed all the time, too tired to think of anything else.
But then, he knew it is impossible. He remembered the light that stopped him from getting close to her.
Ahhh!
He screamed in his head. He almost fell for her gimmicks. She cannot be useful to him! She cannot be devoted to him! She is already his wife! Everyone saw her riding the winged lion with him, and no one is going to believe it if he says those beasts are his.
She is utterly useless! I cannot bring her with me.
Or… is she..?
Alexandra, maybe because of her lack of feelings towards Arioch, could see the minute changes of expression on his face in that short amount of time. She knew he is not trusting her and she should gain his trust by giving him what he wants.
With his face settled on a careful smile, Arioch asked her, “Alexandra, will you listen to me?”
“Yes,” Alexandra nodded enthusiastically.
Arioch looked into her eyes. “I know I might not make sense. But will you release the Dark Mage? I need his help,” he asked.
“But Arioch…” Alexandra widened her eyes. “He does not look like a nice person. He will hurt others,” she clasped her hands over her heart. “You were the one who taught me not to do evil things even for good, but how could you decide to get together with someone evil like him?”
“I know, Alexandra,” ARioch bowed his head and Alexandra was impressed by the layer of mist forming on his eyes. “but do you remember what happened to us for being noble? What happened to us for trying to save people? Good never beat evil, Alexandra. Only diamond cuts diamond. Only darkness overcomes evil!” he said, with his eyes sharp, and voice clear like the battle cry he would shout before every war.
Alexandra was impressed. Luke is a too good actor and he has a good command of speech. No wonder he has people following him blindly.
[Ah, why are evil people smarter than good people?]
“You are right,” Alexandra said, pretending to be contemplating for some time. She looked at the Dark Mage. He was rembling by the aura she emitted.
“I will release him if you think that he will help you,” she said with an innocence of a child.
Arioch nodded with a smile. He was happy. This powerful woman is naïve as she was before. And he can still manipulate her.
Alexandra closed her eyes and clasped her hands together. She furrowed her brows and pretended to be in deep meditation. She didn’t want to let Arioch know of the full extent of her powers. It would only take her a snap of her fingers to put down the spell she created, but she took a lot of time and released the Dark Mage. She didn’t untie the spells that bound his tongue, and she added a spell for him to forget language so that he won’t talk using writing.
“You did good!” Arioch tried to pat her head, but Alexandra avoided his hand and walked to the small pillar where the Orb was kept.
Others won’t be able to touch the Orb, but she can. She lifted it up and with a smile passed it to Arioch.
“I want you to get back at Maximus, Arioch. Do what you can to help those people who trust you,” she said with a somber face. Arioch was too focused on getting the Orb from her hand, but she pulled it back from his hand when he was about to get it.
“Arioch, I have a request,” she said, with her nose scrunched up and her voice shaking.
“What?” Arioch asked gritting his teeth and forcing a smile.
Alexandra enjoyed this reaction on him. What a pitiful being, she thought as she continued with her act.
“I…” she bowed her head, fiddling with her fingers. “He is not well, Arioch,” she said.
“Who?”
“Luke,” Alexandra whispered, her hands gently nestling on her abdomen.
Arioch noticed her subtle expression and his face turned pale but he composed himself.
“He wants to kill our baby, Arioch,” she said, her eyes filled with tears.
{Liar! Liar!}
Inanis shouted in the ancient language. Alexandra knew Arioch won’t understand that language and she let him scream as he wished.
“You are pregnant?” Arioch gritted his teeth. He didn’t like that. “How could you be this stupid, Alexandra? After everything, we went through… He tried to separate us and he…”
Alexandra bowed her head and her tears(fake tears) fell on the orb and got splattered. Inanis screamed in pain.
“Take me with you, Arioch,” she clutched his sleeves. With the tears streaming down her cheeks, she looked pitiful. “He cannot be allowed to rule, Arioch. He is not suitable to rule. Let’s do what we planned before. Let’s meet the Nandor Elves and ask for his help in defeating Maximus. There is no other way…” she gripped her abdomen and shed tears of pain.
Arioch stood there frozen.
He was right! This woman lied to him their previous life! She was conspiring with that guy to dethrone him!
As they were speaking, they heard the sound of heavy footsteps approaching.
“He is here,” Alexandra shivered. “Maximus is here!”
