Survive As The Brute’s Wife - Chapter 151
Alexandra watched Arioch’s face turning serious and his hands reached for the sword on his waist.
“Arioch,” Alexandra grabbed his hand only for his face to contort with displeasure. “I know what to do,” she said but as she expected he was not listening to him.
“Stop,” she pulled his sleeve to grab his attention. “Everyone saw me riding Kefir and everyone knows I am the Brute’s wife. Ride with me on Kefir, Arioch,” she said, knowing full well that this is an offer he cannot refuse.
Luke likes pomp and ceremonies. He loves giving the extra flair to elevate him. He loves getting worshiped and there is nothing else he cares about as long as he has people worship him.
“How?” Arioch looked at her. He very much loved her idea.
The idea that the Emperor’s woman left with another man, that too the leader of the resistance in the middle of the night, will be a great blow to someone who occupies his position on the throne.
“Watch this,” Alexandra smiled sweetly. “KEFIR!” she shouted for the winged lion to hear.
Well, shouting is not necessary. Arioch knew that and he looked at her weirdly. He could see that she is different from their previous life and the only reason she is acting familiar with him and trusting him is that she is under the impression that he is that guy.
He hated this face and bearing the face of that man, but he needs to find solace in the fact that at least she is supporting him.
In the previous life, she didn’t let him use the Orb and stopped him from touching it. But this life, she has no problem letting him unleash the darkness. Well, she says that she is caring for the lives of humans, but she is too stupid to do anything about it.
But as long as he has the support of two of the strongest forces, and if they could convince the King of the Nandor Elves, he could rule the realm as he always dreamed of.
Arioch looked up as he heard a slight rumble and as he watched saw the roof collapsing. He immediately darted to the side to protect himself.
Alexandra smirked.
[Good old Luke… Always quick to save himself!]
She stood there, in the middle, with no flutters or fear. Kefir, the strongest beast, plunged inside shoving aside the pillars supporting the structure.
“Get on,” Kefir said.
Alexandra and Luke got on Kefir’s back. Unlike her previous life, she had already gotten the permission of Kefir for this.
Her eyes ended up to the entrance of the room that is now blocked with the fallen pillars. Maximus was using his everything to break the pillars and enter the room.
[I am sorry I am doing this, Tubby. But I have to.]
She has been thinking for a long time and she wondered if the only way to cure Maximus of the darkness is by getting back at Arioch.
Maximus was not listening to talking and so she decided to act. And she thought she would have time to give a heads up to Maximus to tell him of her plans to get back at Arioch, but it seems like, there is no chance now.
[If only he listened!]
She feared that his darkness will worsen if she leaves out of nowhere. Maximus won’t be pleased with her leaving with Arioch, and there is a high chance that Maximus would let more of his darkness rule him, but she needs to do this to heal him.
[I can find a way to inform him…]
But she remembered his words that she still has some lingering attachment towards Arioch. She just hoped that her intentions would reach Maximus.
Just as Kefir rose above, Maximus had broken the pillar blocking the entrance, using a bolt of lightning, and stepped inside.
“Alexandra!” he shouted, his face filled with panic.
It was almost exactly the same as the prophecy. The image he saw when she turned her back on him and rode away on Kefir.
«But why is that guy with her too?»
Alexandra heard the abysmal shout of the man of her heart. There was no darkness in his voice, but the despair of the loved one who was on the brink of losing his beloved. It hacked her heart.
She looked at Julius climbing up on the pillar from behind her. “Take good care of Flavia for me, Julius,” she shouted for him to hear. Julius looked at her, his face filled with confusion. Surely he would be confused for he is seeing Maximus’ wife riding on that majestic thing with another man.
“Name the baby after me and take good care of the baby for me,” she added. “I left a crib for the baby.”
She hoped Julius remembers the meaning behind the words. And she has left a letter in the crib. She wanted Julius to read it.
“Get down, Your Royal Highness!” Julius shouted. For a split moment, Alexandra saw Julius bowing his head.
[Ah, he understood!]
She was relieved. She knew Maximus might turn darker and he needs to be looked after. Who is better to look after him than the two people who respect him the most?
“Adonis Lukyan,” her attention turned at Maximus. He looked at her with his chest heaving. And she felt Arioch’s hold on her shoulder tightening.
“You will pay for your sins!” she shouted. “I will let everyone see who I am!”
Kefir took off and through the opening that was created from where the tower once was, they got out of the temple.
The malicious laugh of Maximus echoed through the debris for her to hear.
“But I love you, Alexandra!”
“Liar,” Alexandra mumbled for Arioch to hear. But in her heart, she was filled with happiness.
[I know, Tubby! I love you too.]
She hoped he understood what she is doing.
She has talked about bits and pieces of her worries to Flavia. Flavia would have talked about it all with Julius. Julius is a smart man. He would have figured it out. And even if Maximus is losing it, she knew Julius will set him right.
Plus she can always check on Maximus with the help of her beasts. Although she is leaving, although her body is leaving this place, her spirit and her soul will always stay with Maximus, her husband.
And she wanted to make sure that he rests his heart. He would not like her staying with Arioch alone.
“Kefir, let’s get Marcus,” Alexandra told Kefir and he made way to the Harem.
If she has Marcus by her side, Maximus won’t get much stressed. And with the situation in Marcus’ home, it would be better for Lady and Lord Zoros to settle their misunderstanding first before Marcus is introduced to his family once more. If the couple settled their differences, Marcus would be introduced to a happy family. She wished for that to happen.
“Who is Marcus?” Arioch asked.
He was glad that Maximus didn’t reveal who he is to her. That guy was always the fool. He is someone who thinks that being straightforward and noble will help attain success. He probably wanted Alexandra to fall for his heart and not his appearance or his soul.
<Heh! Didn’t that backfire? He’s such a fool. It’s going to be so easy to snatch everything from him!>
“Marcus is Maximus’ pageboy. Although he pretends to hate him, he loves him very much. And he is Lord Zoros’ son. He’ll be useful to us,” Alexandra said.
She then blinked her eyes and looked at him with a ‘praise-me’ look. Arioch with a slight grunt patted her head.
“You are smart,” he said. This woman has never changed. She is the same as their previous life. Arioch figured that she would be easy to be manipulated in this life too.
Of course, having Lord Zoros’ son be a hostage will be beneficial for them in the long run. He might turn out very useful in the future.
After picking up Marcus, the trio flew over the city fort and left the city.
“Arioch, what about the men who came with you?” she asked him.
“Oh, that’s fine. I brought only a handful and they are not the best. They were always going to be the cannon fodder,” Arioch said, his eyes on the Orb she was holding.
Alexandra fisted her hands. She wanted to choke Arioch then and there. He thinks the lives of the people are this invalid when compared to his ambition. But she sucked in a deep breath to calm herself.
It’s only going to be a little while… After that, Arioch would be no more.
And before Arioch ends, she wanted him to endure all the humiliations he wished on her and Tubby. She wanted all of that to happen in the eyes of Maximus so that he would get pleased and let go of the darkness in his soul.
—–
Maximus knelt on the broken pillar. All he remembered were the images from the prophecy he saw that day.
After the prophecy of her leaving him was the prophecy of her plunging her sword through his heart.
«Will it happen? Has she left me?»
“Sire, should we send people to find out where-”
“No, leave them be. Cancel the coronation.. And prepare for war!” Maximus said, his eyes glowing red.
