Survive As The Brute’s Wife - Chapter 154
Alexandra hurried to get to Theodus. She needs Theodus’ help a lot. She hoped that she could get a chance to be alone with Theodus and he is willing to listen to her.
As she expected Arioch was already in the meeting room. She sensed the dark mage in the room and left Marcus at the door.
Although the Dark Mage is rendered almost useless as Alexandra took his ability to communicate, he still was lingering around Arioch. She paid no heed to him.
He must have formed an attraction with Arioch after serving him for a long time. Plus, he should be reminding Arioch of his presence to get Inanis out.
Theodus was donning a sober expression. And he was not even looking at Arioch, and that made Alexandra’s heart skip a beat. She wondered if she would receive the same treatment too.
“You look lovely as always, Theodus,” she walked in with a big smile. “Three hundred years did nothing to you.”
“It didn’t?” Arioch’s smile was unbalanced, showing his displeasure in seeing her. “Only you would say that to me, Alexandra,” he snorted. “You never had empathy.”
“Are you talking about me?” she asked with a gentle smile ruling her face. She didn’t want to get provoked by him. Whatever he throws at her, she should bear with it. She did do a cruel thing to her.
Theodus looked at her without saying anything. His eyes held many secrets and yet, his face betrayed his heart.
He despised being here.
She saw someone was trying to bore a hole in her head and turned, only to meet eyes with Arioch. He asked her to shut up.
[How typical!]
Alexandra didn’t mind Arioch. She turned her attention at Arioch. “How can you say I am unempathetic? If I am what you say I am, will I try my best to find the spells that would find us Uileag forest?”
“What do you mean?” Theodus squinted his eyes as he was curious.
Alexandra shrugged pressing her lips.
“Oh, come on!” Theodus lost his patience. He’s been waiting to return home for ages. His desire to go back home is so great that he is settled his heart into dying the moment he reaches there. He was exiled and the moment he set his foot inside the Uileag Forest, he will be executed. But he wanted to meet his family once before he dies. He is sick of his life as someone belonging nowhere.
“I have found a way into the Uileag Forest. The Royal Library of Lathlin did have many interesting books.” Alexandra wriggled her brows.
Theodus stared at her for a minute. Alexandra stayed meeting his eyes.
She needs to tell him that she has a plan without alerting Arioch. She hoped Theodus got what she means. If there is a book telling how to find the Uileag forest, Maximus would have found it and told Theodus about it. But he didn’t and that means that there is no book.
But she knows how to find it. She is the one who created the Uileag forest. She is the Great Father. If she expresses her wish to enter the Uileag forest, the King should bow before her and welcome her.
But no one knows who she truly is except Arioch. Even he doesn’t know the extent of her powers.
Theodus will have to trust her blindly here. She hoped he does, although she never gave him a sign that she is trustworthy. She acted really cruel to him.
The fact that he is close to Maximus is what gives her the little hope she has. Theodus must know who Maximus is if he is working with him. As much as Theodus must hate her, he liked Tubby.
She hoped Theodus would suspect her intention of taking Arioch’s side and not out her.
“You appear different from when I met you the last time,” Theodus said after clearing his throat.
Alexandra blinked as she couldn’t understand which meeting he is talking about. Because the last meeting she remembered was when he cursed at her after getting exiled from his home. She didn’t think that he is mentioning that meeting.
“At the temple of Alta…” he paused realizing that she does not remember that meeting. He sensed something different from her that day. She was absent and the one occupying her body was…
It was then he realized it. She needs to meet with his father to get help. She must know the way to the Uileag Forest.
He did wonder for a short moment why she is staying with Arioch still, but he now could sense that her mana is ginormous and she is not naïve as she was before.
And Maximus did say that she has a way to find his home. He wondered if it is some plan the both of them put forth to get back at Arioch. If that is the case, it would be a good plan actually. And judging by how Arioch is standing there just silently, waiting for her to do everything for him as always, he could see that she has gained Arioch’s trust already.
He hated being in the presence of Arioch. He was the one who used Alexandra which led him getting exiled. He didn’t want to stand side by side with Arioch for no reason, but this is the only way he can go back home now.
And against his better judgment, although she showed herself to be untrustworthy before, he decided to trust her.
Well, he is desperate, after all. He didn’t think he has anything more to lose.
“What do you want in return?” he asked. “Be upfront about it. The last time I trusted you, you got me exiled.”
Alexandra grinned widely. If he is talking terms that means he has agreed to it.
“That’s…” she scratched the back of her head and looked at Arioch. He jerked his head at her reminding her to talk about what he wants to talk about. Alexandra nodded softly with a smile.
Arioch observed this little conversation between those two. It didn’t feel right to him. It appeared that she is acting the same way she acted in her previous life with Lukyan.
But he didn’t want to care. He wanted to get home.
“I was wrong then. I trusted the wrong person. Adonis Lukyan was a deceitful person and it was wrong of me to trust him… But that doesn’t excuse my betrayal of your trust. Please accept my sincerest apologies,” she bowed her head, placing her hand over her chest.
She meant every word of it. She owes this apology to Theodus. And she needs to correct her wrong.
Theodus stood up from his seat. He hated her but seeing her bow in front of him is not something he would have expected. He knew his father respected her so much and he bowed to her. She should not be bowing to him.
“I want to go home, Alexandra. I don’t want your apology,” he placed her hand on her shoulder and pulled her up.
Alexandra looked at him. She could sense that Arioch is triggered as she spoke of his name and associated it with treachery. She decided to humor him.
“I know that. And I will help you get home,” she promised. “This time, Maximillian Zoros and I…” she pointed at Arioch. “… are working together against Adonis Lukyan. So you can trust me.”
Theodus looked at her. Her eyes were brimming with confidence, unlike her previous life. Back then, she didn’t even have the confidence to look at him in the eyes, even when she was treated as a valuable guest there. She was pushing Adonis Lukyan to the front and hid all the time.
And now, she is insinuating that she is working with Maximillian. And he believed Maximus is in on it.
“But that one…” Theodus pointed at the Dark Mage standing beside Arioch.
[Thank goodness you mentioned him!]
She was looking for chances to rid of the Dark Mage. She decided to use this chance. She had no hopes that Arioch will give up the Choshech Orb, but she wanted the Dark Mage to be gone.
One by one, she will take away the support Arioch has and have him depend solely on her. And then she will stab him in the back for Maximus to see.
“See!” Alexandra walked towards Arioch with a large stride. “This is why I kept on telling you that you cannot have him or the Choshech Orb with you. The elves don’t like to mess around with the Darkness. They dread Inanis.”
Arioch was stunned Alexandra would raise her voice in front of him. And he didn’t understand why she is winking at him. “He stays-”
“Who is scared of the Darkness?” Theodus interjected him. “We are allergic to the darkness, unlike you humans who love to roll around in the slime around the house of Darkness. And if you are going to beg us~”
“Are you calling us pigs?” Arioch shouted back.
“Is that what you got from what I said?”
Alexandra stared at them fighting back and forth and stood there.
“How about leaving the Dark Mage here when we leave for Uileag Forest?” Alexandra suggested. “Theodus can put a seal on him…” she spoke softly as if she is giving a suggestion.
After some back and forth, as the Dark Mage was grumbling and writhing, Theodus put a binding spell.
It was then an accident happened.
