Survive As The Brute’s Wife - Chapter 158
Maximus took a piece of the apple in front of him cut by Flavia. Flavia was smiling as she was cutting the other fruits. He saw the grapes and pomegranate on the plate and he remembered the steamy night they had. There were many nights like that after that. But now, she is not here. And he probably will never have such nights again.
He is going to die. That too in her hand.
But he had hope. Maybe like their previous life, she will find a way to be together with him again. Or she might be already bored with him and would get back to the heavens to be with the gods.
Either way, she has chosen to get back at Arioch and avenge him for everything he did, and he is pretty much happy about it.
And now he needs to do the necessary steps to change the past.
“Flavia, what if everything you know about me is a lie?” he asked. He picked a piece of the fruits and gave it to Flavia and she accepted it.
“I don’t think that is possible,” Flavia smiled. “I know you longer than anyone. So~”
“What if I tell you that Alexandra is the one who knows me longer?” he asked. He thought Flavia would be surprised, but she had the same smile on her face.
“You don’t believe me? You don’t think that I am mad like everyone says behind my back these days?” he smirked. “Just weeks ago, I returned and was the glorious conqueror. And now… just because a building collapsed and a chair of gold was destroyed, peope are calling me weak and a mad man. What if I am truly mad as they say, Flavia?” he asked.
“I don’t think it is madness, Maximus,” Flavia spoke softly. “I think you are…”
She wanted to say “planning something” but she held herself back. She knew Maximus does not like it when spoken like that.
“…You are the Great King as you say,” she said. She was curious about it.
Ever since he was little, he was very curious about anything involving the Great King. But he got very disturbed hearing others say that he is the reincarnation of the Great King. And he even hates his face which looks almost identical to the portraits they have of the Great King. Something is going on there.
Not to mention, Alexandra was curious about the Rose Knight. And the Aion Stone… the way they are bound… Everything is curious and mysterious.
They might be the reincarnation of the Great King and the Rose Knight.
“You believe that?” Maximus was impressed. Leave it to Flavia to pander to him and care for him. He loved her. He did try to hurt her and make her scared of him, but in the end, he couldn’t. And he surrendered in front of her love.
What a woman!
“I do. So is Alexandra the Rose Knight?” she asked.
“Yes, she was.” Maximus nodded. His eyes ended up at the floor as he fiddled with his fingers. “And you must have figured by now that Kefir and Sekwi are summoned by Alexandra, right?” he looked at her.
Flavia’s face drained of color. She didn’t think about this till then. She saw Alexandra summoning Kefir and Maximus could ony summon Ithildin. She does not know much about the summoned beasts, but from what she knows, the contract between the summoned beast and the summoner is bound by the summoner’s soul. So a beast that was bound to the summons of one soul will only answer the summons of that soul alone, even if the soul gets reincarnated.
If so…If Alexandra was the Rose Knight, and she is the one who can summon the winged lion and the phoenix, then in their previous life too…
It was not the Great King who summoned the beasts?
And now she started to make the connections. The Great King never summoned the beasts, it was the Rose Knight. After the Great King was coronated, the Rose Knight suffered Damnatio Memorae and was executed.
And that means…that means… The Great King was the betrayer of trust and a traitor! What they are believing is not true. The Hero the Deberians believe to be their savior, the Rose Knight, the holder of the Hashomer—Alexandra—is the one in the right.
Flavia’s head hurt as if it would burst. She was so stressed thinking of everything. Her abdomen started to hurt and she held her stomach. Fear started to fill her heart and her face went pale.
“That’s right, Flavia…” Maximus smirked. “I am the greatest betrayer. Do you still think I won’t hurt you?”
Bolts of lighting fell in the room turning the room cold. And Maximus’ loud laughter echoed in the coldness. Deep darkness filled the room making Flavia’s hair stand on edge.
Flavia holding her stomach stood up. She was stunned to see another maid standing there. Her eyes were wide and her hands were shaking. Flavia grabbed the maid’s hand and ran out of the room.
She was terrified.
—–
Alexandra was happily humming throughout their travel. It’s the third day of their travel. And they still haven’t left the plains of Sinarin. Although her long golden hair was neatly covered by the cloak, her shining blue eyes revealed her happiness. Her red lips were curved up and although the pace of her horse was slow, she was not disturbed. She happily was chatting with Marcus.
Theodus traveling alongside on a horse shook his head. As always, no one would be able to understand the heart of a woman. He tried to talk to Alexandra in secret, but Arioch was following them everywhere. And so he couldn’t.
His eyes ended up at the bag she was hanging on her shoulder. He didn’t understand why she agreed to bring the Choshech Orb with her. She was not willing to bring it at first, but upon Arioch’s insistence, she brought it with her.
He thought this is going to backfire. They are going to meet his father. His father is the strictest man there is, and he won’t allow an artifact of utter destruction near his forest. He didn’t understand what Alexandra is planning. Or not planning.
She appears dumb and very smart at the same time. And a lot more confident too. Sometimes he had a feeling that she is just playing dumb and at other times, he just was awed by her. She just makes Arioch’s face red out of anger at times and would walk away as if she doesn’t see it. It makes his day.
He didn’t care about the darkness and the destruction the darkness may unfold if he is released from the Orb. He was scared if the Orb would keep him from meeting his father.
But he decided to trust Alexandra one last time. It’s not like he has any other choice.
Arioch was grumbling. He planned for traveling using her summoned beasts so that their travel time would reduce considerably. But she was not taking his suggestions. Apparently, she wanted to travel more leisurely. She refused to budge even after he reminded her of her pregnancy.
<Is she even pregnant as she claimed?>
Arioch’s eyes ended up at Marcus riding on a pony with them. He didn’t understand why that brat has to be brought with her. He slows them down as he gets motion sickness riding on that pony. But she is insisting on bringing him.
His eyes ended up at the bag she was holding. He wouldn’t have trusted her with this journey if she refused to bring the Choshech Orb with her but she did and he is pleased with her. After what she did with the Dark Mage, and how she tried to be alone with Theodus, he thought she is planning something with him and would leave him.
But she didn’t.
That thought made him happy. As always, she listens to him and that is what he wants of her.
Alexandra closed her eyes. She could feel something dredful is coming, but she didn’t know what was that. She tried to contact her mother and sister, but her father had successfully separated her from her family. She didn’t want to use all the methods she could think off because she feared she would lose control of her body to Wispy. This is a crutial period for her. She needs to be extremely vigilant and she didn’t want to slip up.
Also, she understood that this path she takes is the right path. Because her father is not interfering. Other than that, she doesn’t know what she is doing. She could sense that Arioch is planning something with the Orb. But she didn’t know what it was.
And she wondered why her father is not caring about Inanis. She made a scene at his temple. Having a temple of his destroyed must have provoked him a little, but it doesn’t.
She understood nothing anymore. But she decided to continue her path.
Marcus’ smile reduced the moment Alexandra turned. He looked at the man – the bad guy. He hated him more after meeting him. He is a traitor! Why is the Princess smiling at him?
The “visions” he is getting are turning darker and darker. He sees war. In a land filled with golden sand, two big armies are fighting.
In his vision, The Emperor dies. To add to that horror, it is Princess Alexandra who kills the Emperor.
Marcus didn’t know if he should trust Alexandra.
