Survive As The Brute’s Wife - Chapter 159
“So where is it?” Arioch asked, his eyebrows furrowed.
They have been passing through this vast plain of nothingness for an entire day. The air was dry and the humidity made them sweat buckets. She is saying that the entrance to the Uileag forest is here. But there is nothing there. They have walked through every inch of this area, but there is no door here as far as the eyes can see.
At this point, he has lost all his patience.
“It should be somewhere here…” Alexandra said, with a small pout. “Can you recognize your home, Theodus?” She turned and asked him.
“This surely seems like the place,” Theodus said. He was not sure. He was exiled and every memory of the way to the forest is scrubbed from his memory. He is not sure what is near them.
He was a little confused as to what is happening here. Surely, she should know that there is no visible door or portal to the Uileag forest. The last time he brought her there, they were able to see the door because he had already taken off the concealment spell that conceals the entrance to humans.
“It should be… But I can’t find it either. Your spells are not working? He asked. The seeds of doubt started to sprout and he wondered if she is betraying him.
“Spells?” Alexandra rubbed her head with a divine smile. “No. We are not getting there with spells. We are going to be welcomed by your father.”
“What?” Theodus could not believe it. “He will not let us in if he sees me!” he let out a sigh.
If this was her plan all along, he couldn’t believe that he trusted her.
Arioch wanted to scream, but he composed himself. “We have nothing to negotiate with the King of Elves. Not to mention we are with the exiled Prince of the Kingdom. Why would the king open the gates and welcome us in?”
“You’re having the Choshech Orb with you too,” Theodus added. Even he does not like the presence of that Orb here. His father will most definitely not.
“Oh, he will,” Alexandra shrugged. “Trust me.”
She then turned her attention towards Marcus. The spells she put on him are working and he is not getting sick anymore.
“Marcus, do you need anything?” Alexandra asked. She could see the dark circle around his eyes. And she wondered if he is getting affected by the darkness. He is donning this contemplative expression for a while.
But there seemed to be no signs of darkness in his soul. And Inanis is perfectly sealed. No one with the Lukyan bloodline is near and there is no way Inanis would be set free.
She wondered if he is just missing his home. And he is at this complicated age. She wondered if those are the factors for his recent odd behaviors of Marcus. She decided to keep an eye on him nonetheless.
“I am fine, thank you, Your Royal Highness,” Marcus said and Alexandra passed him a sweet bun. Marcus loves sweet things and she has a lot of stock she could get from the little box her father gave her.
“Alright, now we wait,” Alexandra jumped down from the horse and stretched herself.
Surely, the King of the Elves knows who she is, and he will not let her wait by his door for long. He just cannot illtreat the daughter of the Dragon King. The Dragon King will consider that as ill-treatment of him.
“Alexandra, how long are we going to wait here?” Arioch walked to her and asked. His green eyes looked tired and he yawned as he talked to her. “Should we start a fire? Are you feeling cold?” he asked, his hand stretched at her hand.
“No, I am not.” Alexandra turned and walked away from him. “We won’t have to wait for long.”
She does not like his touches. The deception and the lies he hides behind those green eyes… She felt like her memories of Tubby from their last life are getting corrupted by Arioch.
She just wanted to leave. There are moments when she thinks this way. She could just summon Kefir and together with Marcus, she could leave and reach for the misty embrace of Maximus.
She heard from Kefir that Maximus is on high spirits. He also said that her absence has reduced the spread of darkness in his soul. That fact made Alexandra’s heart shred. She could understand. Part of the reason Maximus wants revenge is that he wants to get back at Arioch for hurting her. And she is someone with power.
Every moment of seeing her would make him think of revenge. And with her not there, he should have some peace.
What should she do when the one she loves is living a better life without her? How should she react knowing that her presence near him is what hurts him? Should she just let him live in peace and disappear? Should she give him what he wants and calm his heart and let him live his life peacefully?
“Welcome, to my humble abode, Your Royal Highness!”
That chirpy voice that had the swag and elegance of a majestic steed snapped Alexandra out of her reverie. The dryness and the harshness of the sun were no more felt and it was replaced by the gentle shade of thick forests around them and the scent of fragrant herbs and trees made them feel refreshed.
Theodus fell on his knees immediately after seeing his father. Placing his hands on the ground, he bowed his head and kissed the dirt below. This is the place he has been searching for. For three centuries this place eluded him and finally, he is able to feel the tenderness of the warmth and the fragrance of the soil of his homeland. And he has finally seen it once again.
Arioch stood there blinking and Marcus followed Theodus and bowed to the handsome guy approaching them. There was another handsome lass with him. Hanging a quiver on his shoulder and holding a bow in his hand, he looked a lo like Theodus.
Wearing a crown made of vines and flowers, the grey eyes of King Glarald shone with brilliance reflecting the luscious forest that now surrounded them.
“It’s my pleasure, King Glarald!” Alexandra smiled and walked to the approaching figure. “I should be thanking you for your generosity to welcome this weary traveler and her companions into your resplendent abode,” she spoke clearly and smiled like a celestial being.
Glarald stood frozen for a moment, observing Alexandra. But he snapped out of his thoughts. “If I don’t welcome you, who else will I welcome? Come in!” he spoke with his eyes unwaveringly meeting hers. He didn’t even acknowledge the others.
Alexandra let out a sigh. “I am not alone, Glarald,” she said, making him stop.
His shoulders got stiff and he let go of Alexandra’s hand. “You’re not here to visit an old friend, are you?” he said, his voice laced with disappointment.
“I did! I wanted to talk about our friendship, Glarald. What other reason would I have to meet you?” Alexandra said. She was not pitying him. Her history with Glarald is not so good.
She met those grey eyes without any hesitation. Glarald gulped and averted her eyes after a short while. She looked at his hands, fisted, and his knuckles have turned white. His lips were pressed to a line and his long robes lost their luster in a moment.
He wanted to marry her a long time ago, and she refused him, blatantly. He didn’t take the rejection well and he almost started a war with the heavens. The war was avoided after he got control of the Brume Thicket. She was not pleased with it and she didn’t meet him afterward, even when he invited her to his wedding.
Except, in her past life, she didn’t remember who she was and who he is. So, she entered the forest using Theodus and ended up getting Theodus exiled. That too for opening the Brume Thicket without his permission.
She knows that Theodus was exiled because Glarald didn’t want to get back at her. He might have feared her father or he might be having lingering attraction towards her, which rendered him unable to punish her. And he showed it to his son.
And thus she had created a big rift between a father and son. She needs to fix this.
“Ailwyn…” Theodus’ shaking voice distracted them. “Is that you…?”
“Who are you?” the young man standing beside Glarald nooked an arrow on his bow in just a blink of an eye and the sharp point ot the arrow pointed at his face.
“Ailwyn, stay,” Glarald ordered the boy and he put the bow down. He looked at Glarald with his eyebrows furrowed.
“Who is this, grandpa? Is he really one of us? I cannot recognize him…”
[Grandpa? Did he call Glarald Grandpa?]
Alexandra’s heart skipped a beat.
“Oh… Oh… Cruel fate…” Theodus started to lament. “What should I do? My son doesn’t recognize me…”
Theodus’ despaired shout echoed through those lush trees.
