Survive As The Brute’s Wife - Chapter 162
“If they are not letting me in, we can leave. Why should we be begging these pointy-eared buffoons? It’s not like we don’t have support!” Arioch said, his chest puffing and his eyes filled with pride.
“Whose support do you have?” Alexandra asked, knitting her brows. There is one adage that is true forever—Pride comes before a fall. And Arioch is the living example of that. He learned nothing from his past life and still is very prideful. But she wanted him to revel in his pride. She wanted to crush his pride in front of others and make him feel shame that he would prefer death, to living.
Arioch gulped as he almost revealed his plans of using the Choshech Orb for the final battle before Maximus and get a hold of the entire realm in his hand. She should not know his plans.
“I know we can get the support of the chiefs of the desert clans, Arioch,” Alexandra added, “But wouldn’t it be better if we get the support of the elves? Maximus has Ithildin and with just bolts of lightning, he can win a war. And who knows how many summoned beasts he is hiding? He alone is an army.”
“But you have Kefir and Sekwi.Ithildin is nothing compared to-”
“Oh, I am not going to use Kefir and Sekwi in the war, Arioch,” Alexandra grimaced. “Did I not mention it before?” She scratched the back of her head.
“It’s what you wanted, Arioch. Remember the past when you would always advise me not to use the summoned beasts against those unsuspecting weaklings? You were right. I decided to follow your advice this time around. You were the one who always looked out for me, Arioch. I am glad that I have you in my life,” she smiled seeing the petrified face of Arioch as if she didn’t understand his true reaction.
[I love seeing him tongue-tied when he wants to snap!]
Arioch clenched his jaws. When she does that with that innocent-looking eyes wide, he would have the urge to spill the beans and tell her that he is not Maximillian, but Luke.
“Although I still have reservations in having the Chosheck Orb with us, I am sure that we cannot use it without the help of a Lukyan. That was the reason I agreed to take the orb with me on this travel. So… just listen to the elders, Arioch, and wait for me right here. I’ll…”
“Who is that old man? You were hugging and…” Arioch furrowed his brows. He wanted to smile to make it seem like a casual questioning, but he couldn’t hold his smile and the corners of his lips trembled.
“Oh, he… he is an old friend…” Alexandra’s eyes ended up at Iorhael and a smile bloomed on her face naturally. “He used to not look old before…”
“Oh?” Arioch raised his brows. He pressed his lips out of disgust.
He knew she was promiscuous and someone who has little to no morals when it comes to relationships, but to have relationships with even older men for whatever reason… He despised her. He felt slighted by fate for giving the best powers and unlimited mana to someone like her, when there are good people who deserve that powers better, like him for example.
<Fate is always cruel to nice people!>
A proud man always looks down on others. And that means, he can never look up to see those who are above him. His pride builds an empire and makes him a sovereign, blinding his vision. And that’s how it causes his downfall. Even if others are better than him, he won’t be able to accept it because his pride would not allow him to.
Even if someone is blatantly better than him, he will find reasons to see them as someone beneath him. And Arioch, the prideful man he is, started to think of Alexandra as someone morally inferior to him. In his pride, he didn’t see his shortcomings and saw himself as the arbiter of morality and the superior being.
“Stay here and wait for me, Arioch. I’ll be back with an army,” Alexandra said with a smile, and without expecting his reply, shhhe turned and walked to Iorhael.
Alexandra looked at Glarald as she passed him. He was staring at Theodus.
[Oh, just get to your son and hug him! Kiss him and tell him that you missed him!]
She wanted to say, but she knew Glarald’s pride won’t allow him to do that. But it is fine. He has love in his heart and that would help him overcome his pride.
“Iorhael! Tell me all about your travels,” she hooked her arm in his. She smiled at Marcus walking alongside her.
“Isn’t this wonderful, Arimelda?” Iorhael had a skip in his steps. “You, me, and a Lukyan! Isn’t this like the old days?” he said.
Alexandra winced. As much as she is powerful, she cannot see through bloodlines or foresee the future. But Iorhael can see through it all although he is not strong as her. His words have meaning.
[A Lukyan?]
She turned and looked at Arioch. But no, that’s not who Iorhael might have meant. He didn’t want Arioch near them. And Iorhael might have said that as a slip of his tongue. But she knew that he is careful with his words always.
[If so, does he means Marcus? Marcus is a Lukyan? How?]
As far as she knows, Theodora has no connection to the Lukyan bloodline. She was sure because, if she had even a drop of Lukyan blood coursing through her, Inanins would have used her. Someone like Theodora would have been easy to manipulate.
And that only means Lord Zoros must be somehow connected to the Lukyan line. She wondered if it was just Lord Zoros, or the Zoros family in its entirety has ties to the Lukyan line. In the case of the latter, Tubby might have been related to the Lukyan line and that explains how he was able to summon Ithildin in his past life.
And that means…
Her eyes ended up at Marcus. His recent odd behaviours must not be coincidental. She needs to investigate further.
“Yes, like old days…” Alexandra said.
And there came that flash of memory again—Maximus wearing a leather robe sitting near her leg listening to her speak. Her heart started to flutter.
[Wait… could this be my memory of the first of the Lukyan? What was his name?]
Alexandra placed her hand on her chest. She didn’t know if those flutters are from her memory or her remembering Maximus.
“Iorhael, I need your help,” she clutched his sleeve. She has a lot of things she has forgotten and she was glad Iorhael is here. He is the one she knows for a long time and he has the abilities to help her. She was overwhelmed as she wanted to clear all her doubts and solve all her troubles.
Iorhael turned and looked at her with a knowing smile. There was no hurry or deceit in his eyes and pure happiness.
“After we eat, Arimelda,” he said.
Alexandra nodded. Somehow seeing the smile on her old friend’s face, calmed her racing heart. She followed him, talking about mundane things.
They were brought to the guest rooms and everyone was offered a bath and a new set of clothes. They then got to the reception hall that sat in the middle of this big garden. Beautiful elf maidens played the harp and the flute for their amusement as the sumptuous food was served.
They took a separate table from the King’s table. The Queen was not pleased seeing Alexandra there, which Alexandra could understand. And she didn’t want to be a hindrance in the reunion meal of the Royal family. Iorhael was with Alexandra along with Marcus.
Alaexandra was relaxed after their long journey and Marcus was all smiles looking around.
“I never thought I would receive the hospitality of the Nandor Elves, Your Royal Highness!” Marcus said. “Thank you,” he smiled from his heart.
Alexandra was pleased to see the smile on his face that was genuine.
“Did she tell you who she is?” Iorhael asked Marcus.
Marcus as always with a shy smile looked at Alexandra to ask her permission to speak. Alexandra nodded.
“Marcus, you can ask Iorhael anything! He is the best teacher one would hope for. He knows everything!” she introduced Marcus to Iorhael.
Iorhael looked at Marcus and he bowed his head a little even before the boy gathered himself up to pay his respects. Alexandra was stunned to see Iorhael bowing his head to Marcus.
Her eyes widened.
[No way…]
“And she is my teacher,” Iorhael placed his hand on his chest and said.
Marcus smiled. “She is the Drovarys. And I am happy to serve her,” he said, proudly. He was always proud of that. Who else can say that they serve the Drovarys? He is the personal and only Paladin of the Drovarys and she trusts him!
It is the greatest honor?
“Drovarys? What is that?” Iorhael asked. “Is this another one of your names?” he looked at Alexandra playfully.
“She has other names?” Marcus was curious.
“Iorhael, enough” Alexandra tried to stop him. She didn’t want to scare Marcus by revealing who she is.
“She is Arimelda,” Iorhael didn’t care for Alexandra’s feelings and spoke the truth. “She is the eldest daughter of The Dragon King and she was the one you call…The Great Father.”
