Survive As The Brute’s Wife - Chapter 89
Luke was not willing to even spare a look at her and that made the others more venturous.
“Let’s leave him,” one said. “He just wanted to be treated as an Aristocrat. We can forgive his stupidity…”
“He?” That cousin of Luke sneered. “I always doubted that…”
“He might be a … you know what…” another one nudged him making everyone ridicule her more.
She understood that they want to mock her to get everything off their chest. She held a rather high position in the Palace with the pass that entitled her to barge in anywhere. There were only two of them with that power in that Palace. The other one is the crowned Emperor.
She wasn’t very appreciative of their intent to mock her. She didn’t want to hurt herself by listening to what they were saying. She expected Luke to give spare her that humiliation and order them to leave her be.
When Luke turned to look at her, she expected that he would give her his hand to help her. But since he was not, she decided to help herself.
“Kefir!” she called her reliable beast.
He would answer her calls without fail and even before she finished calling his name. But this time it seems like he is delayed. She found that there is more to it.
She looked up and there was a sneer on Luke’s face. It was as if he was taunting her to do what she could to get out of this situation.
[Kefir?]
She called him once more but there was no reply. She called for her other beasts and she had a feeling that something is blocking her communication with the beasts.
It was then she started to feel fear. Fear and looking around all she saw were the faces ridiculing her. She found her stomach churning and everything around her started to get distorted. She felt a pain so unbearable that it restricted her airways and almost stopped her heart.
Darkness started to envelop her like a mist. As the already distorted surrounding got wrapped in darkness, she found that the darkness is originating from Luke’s chest – she observed closer.
There was a locket hanging on Luke’s neck that contained dark spells and she realized that the locket is the one holding that darkness.
“Did you think that I need you forever, Rose?” It was Luke’s turn to jeer at her. “I never needed you. It was you who needed me! You’re worthless! And you will die like the worthless being you are. I will spare your life today, but you will never have peace. You have nothing, Rose! Have you looked around? Who is here for you? You are nothing. You will die pathetically for not choosing me!”
Luke spoke words that hacked her heart. Her chest burnt like she was breathing in cold water and the darkness wrapped around her like a leech, sucking her mana, rendering her weak to even move an inch. And oddly, she thought she was familiar with the darkness although she has never encountered it before.
“You chose him… You And you will watch him wish for death. You will regret your decision of not choosing me. You could have been mine, Rose… No one will have what’s mine…”
Luke’s words didn’t make much sense for her. She might have heard wrong because of the unbearable pain that made her hallucinate that she is nowhere. That she is deep inside an abyss that was filled with water and making her suffocate. She felt her throat closing and her eyes blackening out.
“Ahahaha…” She heard Luke laugh as she fell face-first on the floor, unable to hold her consciousness.
“Send men to take the traitor to the tower! Cut off his head for everyone to see and set it on a pike at the gates to the city! No one will dare to go against me… I am the Drovarys!”
The chilling marble that pressed on her cheek tried to keep her consciousness for some time, but even more so, the talks about Tubby.
[Tubby is going to get killed? Luke is doing this all out of jealousy? He could go as far as the kill Tubby? Because I chose him? I didn’t choose anyone!]
And the shoes that were around her got closer to her and she felt pain in her back. And it multiplied as she was kicked by those men. She looked up to see Luke smirking with arrogance dancing in his face.
[Hmm… Is he enjoying this? He likes watching me on my belly, getting kicked by men who cannot hold a candle to me?]
Something pricked on her waist that gave her warmth and she remembered the truth she dared not to consider seriously till then.
[I am the Drovarys! I am the Dragon King’s Child!]
“Luke…”
Her voice was meek, and it got covered by the sound of shoes. Or so she thought. But Luke had heard her voice. He waved the hand ordering the men to stop hitting her, and he bent down.
Maybe he thought she was begging her, he spoke in a fake concerned tone. She saw the fakeness in his expression as she saw the smile in his eyes. “Do you need help, Rose?”
“Hahaha… Pitiful!” Alexandra started laughing.
It is laughable. Not knowing who she is, this petty man is doing what he thinks is something that scares her. And she just wanted to show him. Show him that he cannot take her down. If she goes down, it would be she doing that not some pesky human who has the lifespan of three donkeys at most.
Luke was confused by her reaction. With careful consideration, he took a step back holding the necklace.
Alexandra held the hilt of her sword and drew it out. She never used the sword to its full potential. And it is the same sword with which she swore her loyalty to Luke.
But the oath is invalid now and she is free of that oath.
Luke widened his eyes. And she saw fear in them. The darkness surrounding her started to attack her with more force. Those men retreated from her but she felt something smothering her and her back felt heavier than before.
“I am Alexandra, The Drovarys!” she rested the sharp tip of the sword on the marble floor. “And I will show you that I will survive.”
The sword gleamed brightly making everyone cover their eyes. The darkness tried to smother her and the light, but it had no chance, and retreated to the necklace where it came from.
“You won’t even touch a single hair of Tubby!” She proclaimed.
She floated up and her feet slowly reached the floor. Holding the gleaming sword to her chest with both hands, she took in a deep breath.
Blasts of light discharged from the sword, disrupting the density of the air in that throne room. With the sword as the center, the light travelled around the room blasting everything it touches to shills.
“Help Us, Your Majesty!” the advisors that didn’t hold back their jeers started shouting.
Alexandra looked at their feet. The light that traveled as the ripples on a quiet pond that was disrupted by a stone, started to flow in all directions – spherically.
[The feet that stomped on me…]
Her lips curved to a smile and she watched as the feet of the men got cut to shreds with the passing light that was sharp as the tips of diamonds. Unable to bear the pain, and due to the pain that cuts through their bones, the men all fell on the floor. She just did a little improvisation to the cousin of Luke who was still cursing at her calling her traitor and cut off his tongue.
“You have a very annoying voice,” she sneered.
“And you…” she turned at Luke who was the only one who was unhurt in all these commotions. She saw the unadulterated fear in his eyes and her heart filled with glee.
“Tubby will live! You will see! You, on the other hand, shall have no peace, this life and forever! This is the curse of the Drovarys!” she said and snapped her fingers.
The next moment she was in the jail cell they were keeping Tubby. She didn’t know that she has this sort of power, but it was then she had a headache.
“Tubby?” she called the guy leaning on the dirty stone wall of the room that had no light or clean air except for the little hole at the wall. There was nothing there except a little chamber pot and the entire place reeked of excrements and blood.
She tapped her sword that alternated as a light source and observed the tired guy.
[How long was he kept here?]
“Lexa?” he opened his eyes. “Is it really you?” he covered his eyes as the light was too much for he who was staying in the darkness for long.
Alexandra observed him closely. She hoped he is not hurt. She let out a sigh of relief when she saw him unhurt, at least superficially.
“You Coxcomb!” he shouted and crawled to her.
