Survive As The Brute’s Wife - Chapter 90
“Tubby?” Alexandra held the rusted iron bars of the jail cell to have a closer look at him.
His face looked unhurt and his hands too. But something was odd with the way he was crawling towards her. And it was then she noticed the pool of blood where Tubby was sitting. And his pants, drenched in blood.
She could feel knots forming in her stomach. And she got angrier at Luke more than when he let others mock her.
[Her dared to hurt my Tubby!]
Gripping the hilt of her sword as her body warmed up, she already went through the tortures she should put Luke through for ordering his men to hurt Tubby. She was brought back by the cold, wet hands that gripped hers.
“Leave,” Tubby whispered probably because he didn’t even have the strength to speak.
“Tubby, what did they do to you?” she held his cheek, kneeling outside of the jail.
Her heart shattered seeing his parched lips and his hair that appeared to have bald spots because it was pulled. His eyes looked red and she saw a tear in his ear as if someone cut a piece of his earlobe. But it looked old as if it happened at least a day before.
His shirt is new and his pants were changed but it is already wet with blood and she could infer that Tubby was tortured, for two days.
She started to get warm and started to glow unable to control her anger. In her rage, she wanted to blast everything that is around her and end everything.
[Tubby is hurt… Nothing can be spared!]
“Idiot!”
The hit to her hand with Tubby’s coarse hand snapped her to her senses.
“Leave!” he said again. “Why did you come for me? I am half-dead. He would come for you next, Comxcomb… Why did you come for me?” he touched her cheek.
“Tubby… Why didn’t you inform me?” her eyes filled with tears. Tubbys’ cold hands were trembling on her cheek. She pressed her hands over his to give him some of her warmth.
After leaving her that day, Tubby has endured terrible pain in the hands of Luke but she was hiding somewhere not even searching for him. Thinking about it made bitterness rise at the bottom of her heart. She hated herself.
And even now Tubby is not complaining about his pain but is trying to get her to safety.
[How did I not see that Tubby looked out for me all this time? Why didn’t I listen to him?]
“I sent you a message to-” he let out a sigh. “Leave me! And go back. Take your grandfather and go into hiding. Luke is no good. He would-”
“Tubby… I am sorry… I am sorry…” Tears streamed down her cheek. “It’s all my fault! I should have listened to you…”
She started to sob. At that time, footsteps were heard approaching them from the stairs. The soldiers Luke sent came here to fetch Tubby.
“That’s…” Tubby rested his forehead on the iron bar. “Leave… Save yourself… Please, listen to me…You cannot be associated with me… Listen!”
He tried to talk sense to her. But she was distressed and crying.
“Sir Alexander! Under the orders of Emperor Lukyan, we are…”
The soldiers read out the edict from Luke and only then did Alexandra gain her senses back.
“Emperor? Orders? Heh!” she let out a snort and stood up.
She pointed her sword at the approaching soldiers and they took a step back not even bothering to touch their weapons. There was no one with sense who would challenge her for a fight.
She was the Rose Knight, after all!
Without saying one more word, Alexandra raised her sword and sliced the iron bars. Her sword is not some random iron sword. It is the Hashomer! It can cut through diamonds even. Those rusty iron bars had no chance.
There was nothing but Tubby’s health that stopped him from getting out of the jail cell. She saw the soldiers retreating to get more soldiers. But unless they gather their entire army there, they wouldn’t have a chance.
But even if they gather an army, will they succeed against her?
“Get up, Tubby,” Alexandra held out her hand.
“What are you doing? Stop this and escape. They will blame you-”
Before Tubby could speak more, Alexandra whispered some spells and her lips ended up on his lips. She transferred some of her mana and healing powers to him making his wounds close. She could have done it after taking Tubby out of here, but she was not having the strength to check how injured Tubby is.
This was the first time she did it and she didn’t know this would succeed, but it did and she was glad.
Tubby was surprised and was staring at her without even blinking.
“Get up!” She pulled him up. “Let’s leave together,” she smiled and he got up.
“You…”
He was about to say something, but Alexandra turned to her side sensing the darkness she encountered sometime before. But this time it was stronger and more virile.
“Ah… the Choshech Orb…” She muttered.
Luke smirked and Alexandra pushed Tubby to her back. He was not pleased but she remembered her old archnemesis. The first time, it took her everything to trap the darkness. She knew she won’t be able to fight it in her current state after lending her mana to Tubby and using powerful spells to heal him.
“You are going to die, traitors!” Luke smirked.
“A Lukyan breaking their oath to the Dragon King and setting out Inanis… The heavens should interfere…” she smirked and raised her sword.
“YOU SHALL NOT STOP ME, INANIS!”
She spoke with the authority she was born with. Her sword started to glow once more, this time with a blue flame. The darkness receded back and Luke was thrown several feet away. His head hit the uneven rock and with blood dripping on his shoulders, he fainted.
“You will never have peace, Adonis…” she whispered and grabbed Tubby’s hand and started running towards the exit.
Tubby followed her and they ran out of the prison. Looking at her with her sword in her hand, no one dared to stop her. Running with her, Tubby was not saying anything and she was not expecting anything.
They reached a safe place and they stopped there after running away for more than half a day. The forest was dense and she sat leaning on the trunk of a tree. They say dangerous animals reside here but she was not caring for that. No one would come here searching for them.
“Was that Inanis? He dared to take the Orb that shouldn’t be touched?”
She didn’t answer Tubby as she drank water from the creek. She seriously deliberated if she should tell Tubby who she truly is.
[I am not the child of the Dragon King, but I carry the blood of the Dragon King. I am named Arimelda. I am the daughter of the Dragon King and his wife Alta is my mother. Cathlyn is not my summoned beast, but my sister. I was the Great Father the first time I was in this world. I have lived in this world for ages with many names. I cannot die because no one can kill me; my father would never allow my death. I have the power to create and destroy. I am not even human…]
“How?” Tubby grabbed her hand with surprise. “How did you make him recede? I heard no one can. Is this your power? You even healed me just like that! I thought I was dead!” He was blabbering but then his eyes ended up on her.
“You don’t look good…” he walked closer. “Turn…” he said and not minding her protest, turned her and looked at her back.
“There’s… Who kicked you?” he turned her back and his voice turned sinister. “There are many footstep marks-” he grabbed her shoulders. “Who did this? It was him, right? What did he do?…”
Alexandra observed his face. Although she stopped listing to what he says, she could see his expression. It was filled with anger towards the ones who hurt her but it had only gentleness for her. She couldn’t believe someone could express two opposite expressions at the same time, but Tubby did. And Luke in his distress held her shoulders too but Tubby’s hold was gentler, way gentler.
She bowed her head in shame. How she was unable to realize the manipulations of Luke till then is very shameful. For someone who held everything in her hands, she was very utterly stupid, damaging the order of the world by messing up a lot of things.
[What can I do to correct it all?]
“Tubby…” she decided to tell Tubby everything to spare him his worries. She wanted to go back to their home and decide on what to do to correct her wrongs.
But before that Tubby started to speak first and she listened.
“Let’s go back, Comxcomb!” he said. Her face brightened up as Tubby is having the same thoughts as her.
“Let’s go back to the Palace,” He added. “Let’s kill Luke, and take the Throne!”
Her heart stopped.
[Tubby… Why is he saying this? Throne? That won’t correct anything, would it?]
