Survive As The Brute’s Wife - Chapter 91
Alexandra was stunned. She understood his anger. He acts rationally most of the time. That is unless it involves her. In that case, he would get irrational and blabber whatever.
[But taking the throne?]
“Tubby..?” she held his hand.
Luke told her some stories and she didn’t think that Tubby is someone who would covet the throne. She knew him. He wouldn’t have meant it.
She was mad at Luke and she put a curse on him. He cannot touch the Orb again and she limited his cognitive ability. He won’t be able to plot against anyone even to save himself.
She, as the “Drovarys” as they are addressing her this life, has certain duties. In all her previous lives, she tried to improve the life of the inhabitants of this world, but this time, she did some things out of stupidity.
She needs to be very careful moving forward.
They have just ended a war that spanned for almost half a decade. She has seen the devastation it has caused for a lot of people. She had doubts in the death of the King, and yet she kept her silence in spite of her perturbance for the sake of the people.
The stability of the throne gives hope in the hearts of the people who are greatly affected by the war, and the devastation it wrought. There was a loss of trust among the people when the previous king died and people are pacified with the recent coronation.
The stability and trust of the higher authority among the people cannot be shaken.
“What do you mean?” she asked to give a chance for Tubby to gain his composure and correct his egregious statement.
“I saw you!” Tubby said with wide eyes. ” You were glowing and your strength… The authority in your voice… Even he got scared of you. We must go there and end it all!” he said with a grin.
“Imagine this… You flying there riding Kefir and executing Luke in front of everyone… Everyone will know that you are the one summoning Kefir… And the throne would be yours!…”
He kept on voicing his dreams of a new dawn where she would be where she deserves to be.
“We have to go back there… Listen, otherwise Luke will-”
“That’s enough, Tubby,” she stopped him. “We are not going back there. We will live silently at our farm. I am going to live at the farm with my grandfather. Are you coming with me or not?”
She remembered Tubby shaking his head refusing to go with her. His eyes were filled with tears.
“He will not leave us be, Coxcomb. Listen to me. You will have to go back and end him and fix it. Only by sitting on the throne will you-”
“Stop it, Tubby!” She interjected him. “He spat on me and he watched as I was getting kicked… He called me useless and worthless, that I am not worthy to live…” her throat closed. “I loved him but…”
She covered her face as she couldn’t hold back her tears.
[I should survive and Live well in front of Luke… Tubby should thrive making Luke lose his mind further…]
“He cannot die, Tubby…” she looked at him and sniffed. “I don’t want the throne. Come with me. We can…”
She stopped as Tubby moved away from her outstretched hand.
“No…” he shook his head. “It is not over. We have to go back. Think about what Luke-”
“Tubby,” she took a step closer to him. She didn’t want to hear that name.
The leaves in the forests rustled and birds were chirping away happily. And her heart was filled with turbulence. Luke used her for her power and once he felt like he didn’t need her, found some reason to blame her and tried to hurt her.
At that moment, Tubby… appeared to be caring more for her powers to take the throne. He says he wanted her to take the throne. But she doesn’t want the throne.
“Your kiss that day… He thinks that it was not the first time and that I was fornicating when… Why did you kiss me, Tubby?” she wanted to know.
She wanted to talk about their life, to distract Tubby from thinking about Luke. She thought that she could distract him and make him follow her as always. But she saw his face turning pale and then it got red with anger.
“After what he did to you, I am not going to forgive him. I will bring him down,” he said pointing his finger at her, and turned to leave.
Alexandra remembered losing the strength to stand. It seemed like no one wants to talk with her. Everyone is embroiled in their own thoughts of vengeance.
Even Tubby.
Rather than talking about the kiss that confused her and him even, he is talking about revenge and Luke.
“Tubby!” she called him. He stopped. His broad back was like a mountain in front of her.
[He won’t even look at me… But it is fine… I still love him… He’s my… I would never hate him no matter what he does… He will have to live well. He can take the throne if he wants to… And I know what I have to do. I have had enough with this life. I will leave.]
She walked to him and hugged his back and took in his scent that always gave her a protective feeling. She put spells on him – a protective spell and a spell of fortune.
[Whatever he wants to do will come to. He will prosper. And no one can hurt him. He’ll be safe…]
“I wish you well, Tubby… I…”
She didn’t have the strength to look at his face and ran away. As far as she remembered, she didn’t hear him calling for her. His footsteps that would always follow hers didn’t that day.
Reaching that place, she did what she did. She ended herself full well knowing that this is not the end for her.
But Tubby came there to her astonishment. And he did something that she never expected that he would do.
And she is here…
“I found him, Cathlyn…” Alexandra opened her eyes. They were red. No matter how many times she had thought about that day, it shatters her heart. She couldn’t understand how Tubby could just pierce himself with a sword without having any knowledge of what might happen to him.
[He was too broken-hearted, he decided to end his pain…]
Thinking about that, she remembered the first conversation she had with Maximus. He was reacting rather differently when she talked about her desire to surive. And he talked about someone ending their life pathetically because they were distressed.
[Was he talking about me? I was distressed, but that was not the reason I ended my life. Well… to some extent, yes. Had I waited for some more time, Tubby would have come back to me and we would have found a way to move forward…
He said something about being worthless and no one wanting her..? Why did he think I was distressed over Luke? I was more distressed about Tubby though…]
She let out a sigh understanding that it was her fault and her hurried decision to run away when all she had to do was wait. And because of her hurried decision, a lot of curses happened, monsters appeared terrorizing the people and now…
“He will try and use the Orb again, Cathlyn…” Alexandra rubbed her hands together. “And I will not let him succeed. I put a curse on the Lukyan family in my anger and Max… Ugh… Why is it all complicated?” she let out a sigh.
[I have to lift the curse on Maximus. .. Why did Tubby become a Lukyan?]
“How come Tubby became a Lukyan, Cathlyn?” she asked her doubt to he rsister and she looked at her pitifully.
“What?” Alexandra shook her holding her arms. “Tell me! Are there more memories that I don’t remember?”
Cathlyn let her shake her and stared at her deeply.
“What can you see? Tell me,” Alexandra urged her.
“You’ve stayed a long time in the world, Arimelda… You’re…becoming more and more human. You lost your ability to shift to a dragon a long time ago and now you even…” Cathlyn let out a sigh.
“I even what?” Alexandra knitted her brows and looked at Cathlyn for answers. “Our mother was a human, wasn’t she? At least, when she gave birth to me? Isn’t it normal that I have more characteristics of a human than of a dragon?”
“That is true. Mother became a dragon after accepting the wishes of our father and drank from the Ilfirin Well. I was born after that and I have the attributes of a dragon. You were weak in those and I have thought that if that is the reason why father treats you differently…” Cathlyn sighed. “But now…” she knitted her brows and looked closely at Alexandra.
“Ah… the other soul in me. Is that what you are talking about?” Alexandra widened her eyes.
She needs to get answers about Wispy. With the power she holds, and a body different from that of a normal human, there is no way some soul found its way inside her.
“What could be the mystery behind this? How can I handle this?” Alexandra asked concentrating on her sister for answers.
“As I can see,” Cathlyn knitted her brows. “That soul-”
“What the-!”
Alexandra turned at the bright light appearing from above.
