Survive As The Brute’s Wife - Chapter 92
Maximus stared at the wall of water once again. It seems like Julius is not going to talk more after he expressed his decision to accept Alexandra as his wife although she is the prophesied destroyer of their Kingdom.
Well, he cannot blame Julius. Only he knows who she is. She is not a destroyer. She is someone who protects. That prophesy… must be influenced by Adonis Lukyan as that prophesy of the Dracorys returning seems to have originated around that time.
«That utter shite!»
He clenched his jaws and closed his eyes as he remembered that fateful day. He was enraged that day after hearing what he did to Alexandra. That night as he ran away from her after getting needlessly too stunned for kissing her, he only remembered darkness. When he woke up he was in the torture chamber with his hands and feet tied up.
He should agree, those men that were left in charge, did live up to their names of Shrews. Well, unlike the real shrews, they didn’t dare to paralyze him. They just ripped him apart making him scream in pain. He was in and out of consciousness but he thought they ate him. Or he was just hallucinating. He’s not sure. It was too painful.
He had no sense of time as he was kept in a dark place all the time, but some time before the Coxcomb came for him, Luke came for a visit. He was in so much pain that he couldn’t understand the doublespeak coming out of his curse noble mouth. But Luke was insinuating that he wants Alexandra constrained for some reason. He offered the post of Prime Minister if he kneels only for him and when he laughed at his face for such an idiotic offer, Luke started threatening that their legion would be the first to be sacrificed if he didn’t get in line.
Well, he remembered spitting on Luke’s face to give him a clear answer. And maybe that sissy got back at him by spitting on Alexandra.
He was a well-known coward hiding behind a woman to save himself, after all!
And then she came… He thought she would share the same fate as him and he wanted her to leave. He didn’t know where he got that strength to talk. But something possessed him to urge her to leave.
But something different happened. She healed him… With a kiss. She healed the marks of hours of torture not only on his body but also in his mind.
But her soft lips… They reminded him of that night.
When he saw her gleaming appearance as she controlled the darkness using the Heavenly Flame, he saw bits and pieces of her past.
How? He had no idea! But he felt like he was there when she did all those amazing things.
He knew this is not her first life and that she is not just some bearer of the Heavenly Sword. She is more. She is the Great Father.
And that was why when she expressed her desire to go back to their farm, he was against it.
When she said that she doesn’t want Luke dead, he was angry. He thought she is valuing the life of someone who needs no pity from someone like her.
He didn’t think Luke was just threatening that he will hurt their men. He had a feeling that Luke will do it.
When she talked about that kiss, he was very embarrassed to talk about it. He thought that talk could wait. He wanted to save their men and the people first.
He should agree. If he didn’t see her true power, he wouldn’t have bothered to go back and followed her advice. They needed to stop Luke who would definitely use his power to rule without mercy. It is her duty as the Great Father to bring peace. And for that, Luke needed to go and she needed to take the throne. It was the only thought he had at that time.
And that’s where he went wrong. He refused to see the sadness in her tone. He who always notices her eyes skipped looking at her eyes as he was… embarrassed and scared.
He was embarrassed to tell her that he loves her.
He who has fought in wars in the frontlines felt an insurmountable fear to tell the woman who was asking him point-blank about the kiss he initiated. He feared that she might consider his love an abomination and leave him.
And so he wanted to concentrate on the danger looming over them – Luke.
She didn’t want to talk about Luke as what he did to her was terrible. Did he care? No! He wanted her to face him again to take the throne.
It was his mistake.
She called him and he didn’t even look at her face because… his face was red as he blushed. When her smooth arms wrapped around him, as he felt her mounds on his back, he was blushing. And he didn’t want to see her blushing and he didn’t even look at her.
She asked him to live well. And then she left. But he didn’t follow her. He slumped on the ground, unable to bear the warmth she kindled in his body. And when he found her… she was gone.
He blamed himself. He still blames himself. He is thankful he is getting a second chance. But, had he not hidden his face from her, she might not have succumbed to her sadness of getting treated horribly by Luke. He should have told her that he is there for her and that he loves her. He should have stood by her side as she healed her heart from the heartbreak.
That one with unlimited potential left the world early without any closure and with her heart shattered to pieces by the one she loved.
When he got to her, it was late. And he had no choice to follow her. He couldn’t imagine a life without her by his side. He didn’t think that he could ever get out of the guilt he feels for not saving her.
And both of them died in heartbreak.
“Sire!”
Julius’ shout made him snap and he saw a bright figure descending from the heavens. He didn’t know who he was but he had a feeling that he knew him.
“Don’t!” he tried to warn his men who drew their swords to stop that bright figure from getting closer to him.
“No!” he stood up and ran towards that figure who appeared to be about to snap his fingers. “Kneel!” he screamed to save his men. “Kneel for the Dragon King!”
His men knew to listen to him. Dropping their weapons they kneeled by his side and bowed their head. But the Dragon King was still not pleased and Maximus let out a sigh seeing his men dropping like flies.
“I bow to thee, Heavenly Dragon, Creator of the Universe and-”
“That’s enough!” he was not taking any of his greeting that was filled with fear and no reverence. He does not need to prey on the fear of the humans. He is the almighty who is boundless and one without end.
“So, you’re…” that voice that was calm and at the same time majestic enough to cause knots in Maximus’ stomach, seemed to be deliberating what to say to him. He tried to look up to have a closer look at the creator, but the light around him was so intense he couldn’t spare even a glance.
“You’re married!” the melodic voice that contained the secrets of the universe spoke after some deliberation. “So you shall rule over her,” the smooth voice added.
Maximus was stunned, too stunned to even move. Who in their right mind would expect the visit from the Dragon King? And come to think of it…Who in their right mind would dare to marry the daughter of the Dragon King?
But to rule over her? What does he mean?
He forced himself to look up as he wanted to see the countenance of the one who is asking this odd thing of him.
«Is this a test?»
Alexandra saw the descending figure and she immediately dropped the wall of water. Cathlyn stood alongside her and both of them floated across the water and reached the shore.
“Greetings, Imperial Father!”
Both of them bowed their head to pay respects to their father. He might be their father but they always treated them as their King in public.
“So… you remembered… most of everything,” The Dragon King looked at Alexandra and she nodded with a smile.
It was odd that she didn’t remember him back when she met him in the Temple of Alta.
“Has the defiant chick realized her mistakes now?” he aske, his voice carrying the tone of the caring admonishment of a father.
“How is mother doing, father?” she smiled. She saw the clouds joining together to a tornado above him and she knew he is angry.
He cannot get angry; certainly not at her.
She knew the only way to pacify her father is to bring up their mother. Once their mother is brought up…
“Answer me!” he shouted, and the wind pickedup speed.
“Yes, Your Majesty,” she answered with a meek voice. Cathlyn took a step back fearing him.
“Then return with me!” The Dragon King ordered. “You’ve lived here long enough.”
Alexandra’s eyes widened and she gulped.
It is an order she cannot refuse.
