Survive As The Brute’s Wife - Chapter 95
Hearing the ruffling noise on the bed, Maximus turned and looked at Alexandra slowly waking up. She was clutching the sheets and her eyelids were trembling. It looked like she was trying to open her eyes, but she couldn’t.
It was then he calmed his heart to not worry about figuring out a way to let Alexandra know that he is Tubby. He felt like something much more sinister is brewing. Every time she faints, he would feel some sinking feeling, but this time he was not feeling anything. He felt detached from her as if the chord that connected him with Alexandra had broken.
«Was it severed? How?»
And now he was scared to the max. His major aim was to have a happy life with Alexandra this time. He had hopes till then and suddenly he found himself losing hope as everything seemed against him.
“Lexa…” he called her name and she slowly opened her eyes.
Holding her cheeks to warm her, he spoke softly. “Lexa, how are you feeling?” he asked as he looked at the tired blue eyes.
As if a colony of ants started attacking her, she sat up and scamperred away from him. With her face to the wall, she was cowering and bowed her head not wanting to meet him in the eyes.
He felt his chest tightening. This is not how he wants to see her. It hurts him to see her this way as if he is a danger to her. And it was then he knew that she is thinking of him as Luke. She picked up the sword and she remembered who she is. There is no doubt there.
But she does not see him as Tubby. She sees him as a threat.
And in her previous life, she died in heartbreak as she still couldn’t hurt the man she loved. And he could see that she is in a conflict that she wants to be wary of him since he is the one who hurt her in their previous life, but she couldn’t hurt him because he is the man she loved.
And in this dilemma, she is scared not knowing how to act.
«Did you love him that much, Alexandra? Would it have made a difference if I told you that I loved you before you left me that day? Why is this happening?»
“Alexandra…” his voice shook as he tried to speak. “I am…” he tried to tell her that he is Tubby, but he felt a sharp pain in his chest.
Every time he tries to tell her that he is Tubby, he would feel this pain right where he pierced himself with her sword. It is as if he is not allowed to tell her that he is Tubby.
He knew killing oneself is considered a grave sin and those who killed themselves will never find rest. They can never cross the river and they will never reincarnate. But he is here. And that too in Adonis’ family. He knew that some greater power is involved in all of this, but he decided to keep everything on the back burner once he found Alexandra.
Right from when he was very young, he would get weird dreams. In those dreams, he had a different life, with a different name and family. He didn’t know who Maximillian Zoros was. But in his dreams, he would be this person. And there would be this girl… Pretty as a fairy and well-trained as an Elf. He felt a strong connection to that girl and in the deepest part of his heart, he had an urge to meet that girl; to hold her close to him and never let go.
He was very young and didn’t realize what those feelings were, but he wanted to find that girl. He knew that girl is connected to Maximillian Zoros, and he decided to find out more about that person.
As the sole Prince and the heir to the throne, he has access to the entire world. He tried to check the records, but he couldn’t find anyone by that name. Like a possessed madman, all his waking hours were spent on finding out more about the Zoros family.
The Zoros family in their Empire was a well-known Aristocratic family from which the greatest generals of the Empire have hailed. As he tried to find out more about that family and learn more about their lineage, he found a stumbling block.
The lineage traced back to the time of the Great King and there was no reference to the Zoros family before that. His curiosity only got kindled more. He was growing up and was almost a teen by then, but he had that one recurring dream where that beautiful girl extended her hand to him.
‘I’ll find you, Tubby,’ she’d saw with a giggle. In her sapphire-blue eyes, he thought he saw the entire universe. Her golden hair would wave in the gentle breeze and he would feel that in the tips of those curly golden locks, his heart is getting swayed. Meeting her in his dreams gave him a euphoria as if he was sitting on an oscillating swing that reaches the sky.
Along with his studies, he made it a habit to collect any information around the time of the Great King. He found a lot and with the help of Flavia got to know many interesting folklores.
He’s heard certain rumors involving the current Lord of the Zoros family and his mother. And he learned that many courtiers suspected his paternity. But those rumors were swiftly snuffed out as the Temple of the Dragon King got involved and they said that he is the reincarnation of the Great King. Only then did they reveal the portrait of the Great King that was enshrined in the Head Temple.
Even he was stunned to see the resemblance. And like many, he too wondered if his mother’s hand is in this?
There is a lot to be doubtful of when the portrait of the Great King was revealed just as there were rumors about his lineage, and to boot, the portrait appeared as if someone had painted imagining him as an adult.
But there was absolute proof that it was indeed the Great King.
And when he talked about his dream to the Chief Priest, without saying anything, he just opened the secret chamber that has been guarded by the priests for centuries. He went through the dark tunnel which was occupied by spiders and bats, he reached a gate guarded with runes. He saw a puzzle and he solved it easily. He remembered solving this puzzle before, although he didn’t clearly remember where.
He found a small room that illuminated the moment he entered. Unlike the tunnel, the room was clean and tidy. There was a small table and on the side was a shelf with a lot of written manuscripts. He walked to the table and on that table was a piece of paper and a quill. He was surprised to see the ink inside the quill still not dry.
He thought that someone is using this room, that is until he read the paper. On the paper, there was a letter written and the letter was not finished. And more importantly, that letter was written in the Alash language.
Alash language was the official language of Lethusia before it became an Empire. Later the language was mixed with the other languages and got almost extinct. Only the Royal heirs learn the Alash Language as it is their birthright.
He had a feeling that the letter belongs to someone from his family and started reading it. The letter was addressed to someone named ‘Rose’. It appeared to be a letter of apology, but he didn’t find it very heartfelt. The writer was blaming the sufferings he endured on ‘Rose’ and although he agreed that he had hurt ‘Rose’ he didn’t deserve this punishment.
He sat on the chair and picked up a book that appeared to be a journal. He then passed out and didn’t wake up for several days. He was kept in the Temple and they were doing spells to rejuvenate him as he was in a trance. Those dreams came back, and this time he got the whole picture.
He learned about the “traitors” when he was doing his research after he woke up. From the notes left by Adonis Lukyan inside the temple, he was able to find out what happened after the death of Alexandra and him.
Adonis had exterminated the entire Legion of Roses and their families. Everyone was against that massacre, but Adonis was on a path of destruction. He then commanded for the destruction of Alexandra’s family farm and the death of her grandfather. He took quite the pleasure in describing how he ruined her family home and her grandfather.
It was then he realized that the Zoros family aided Luke in eliminating Alexandra’s farm and that was how they became the Aristocrats of the Lethusian Empire.
«Were we the traitors? It was my family…»
He has many reasons to hate the Zoros family, but this one is the main reason he never felt the need to even understand them. He hates them to his bones and he vowed to destroy them one day soon.
He was fourteen and filled with hate, wanting to destroy everything that was “built” by Luke. It was then he came across a very unsuspecting man; well, he was not a man but…
