Survive As The Brute’s Wife - Chapter 96
He had heard of elves this life, and his teachers used to tell him that the pact between the elves and the humans was broken. He thought they would urge him to repair the relationship, but it seemed like his teachers were following the teachings of the Great King. They taught him that elves want to rule over the land of the humans, encroaching on their lands that are filled with gems and gold.
Well, it was hard for him to accept it then, but after he learned of his past life, he knew who shared that exact belief. And that’s why he knew he has to do the exact opposite.
But he has to find an elf. He knew just the one to find – Theodus. He hoped he is still around.
He wandered around the plains of Sinarin and one day he happened upon the one he was searching for. Theodus recognized him with just a glance and called him by his name ‘Maximillian Zoros’. That day, he let out a sigh of relief that he is not crazy and he truly is not the reincarnation of the Great King as he is revered as.
Theodus gave him the Aion Stone. He knew where she was and he decided to find Alexandra. His journey to the far end of Erui Dor was not permitted by his mother and so he sneaked out. He was raised to not handle the outsides but he had the experience from his past life.
He needed to find her.
As he got closer to Riza, his journey became much more arduous than it already was. It was as if something was preventing him from getting to her. It was then he saw Arioch for the first time too. He thought he saw someone with the same face as him but then he couldn’t find him again and he thought he might have seen him wrong.
But that day, he was attacked from behind while he was resting under a tree in a field. And he was thrown down a pit in his semi-conscious state. The person above him tried to shovel dirt into the hole trying to bury him alive. It took him some time to have enough consciousness to take a look at the one trying to kill him.
To see you are getting buried alive by yourself was more traumatic than facing death itself. But that boy who appeared to be the same age as him trying to murder him with such finesse, he realized who that was.
But he got distracted hearing some noises around. He still couldn’t move and was just staring at the bright sky above him. He could hear people moving very close to where he was, but no one was looking inside the pit and he couldn’t even speak.
He watched as the bright sky turned dark. Gradually the number of people passing through that field reduced. The sun went down and people finished their work and went home. He laid there, still unable to move. His head hurt like it was split open, his stomach grumbled and his lips were broken out of thirst.
It was then he heard the giggle of a girl. And in the final light of the sun, he saw a girl with shimmering golden hair peeking in.
“I found you!” she smiled, but then her smile vanished seeing him.
There was very little light. And even then he could say that the girl standing above him is the girl he keeps seeing in his dreams.
“…Lexa…” that’s all he could mutter then. And then he couldn’t even keep his eyes open and he closed his eyes. His lips curved as he finally could see the one he was searching for. His hand grabbed the stone he was holding close to him for the weeks he’s been traveling.
«She found me… Just like she promised!»
He closed his eyes, but he didn’t lose consciousness. He sensed his back leaving the ground, and he slowly opened his eyes as he felt rejuvenated as if he jumped in a pool of water. His strength returned almost immediately and he opened his eyes to see the girl pulling him up with a ball of water enveloping him.
He was not as stunned as he is supposed to be as he knew she could do this. She is Alexandra – The Rose Knight. Or to be precise, the Drovarys.
«She still is awesome!»
As he was lifted, he could sense her mana flowing through his body, healing him and fixing his wounds.
“I thought I was going to find the cat. But I found you,” she said scrunching her face. “But you are more interesting…”
She brought him somewhere and he followed her with a grin on her face. She is the same as he remembered. She brought him to the carrot patch that was hers and offered him carrots.
“I don’t naturally share my carrots, but you can have it,” she said. She somehow foraged some milk for him, which he later learned to be mare’s milk.
Well, it didn’t taste that bad.
He was exhilarated to meet her. She was talking non-stop and he was there, hands on his cheeks, watching this girl he loved all his previous life and the one he wanted to meet al this life. She was jovial, kind, and was overflowing with mana. Judging by her attire and her hairstyle, he could figure out that she is a Lady. The sky darkened and he didn’t find the need to leave her. He wanted to be by her side forever.
«He died unable to part her in his previous life, after all!»
He wished he would talk to him about her past life, or tell him who he is just like Theodus did. But judging by her casual attitude, he could tell that she doesn’t know him, yet. He was about to tell her, but her maid started searching for her.
“I should go,” she stood up. And he stood along. He didn’t want to leave.
“Lexa…” he said, still not being able to frame the words that are stuck in his throat. “Do you know who I am?” he asked.
“I do know who you are, don’t I?” her playful grin turned to a serious smile. Her hand ended up on his cheek and standing on her tiptoes, she looked into his eyes. “Why does what I see with the eyes of my body differ from the one I see through the eyes of my heart?” she asked.
“Do you have it? Do you have the Hashomer? Or the Aion Stone I procured?”
Her blue eyes gleamed as if it was trapping the moonlight from above. “Tubby? Why are you looking like this?” she asked. She then let out a sigh and her eyes returned to normal.
He was overwhelmed with joy. Joy, knowing that she knows who he is. She is calling him by the name only she uses. Their past life, he hated when she called him by that name. He knew that she is doing it to provoke him and to treat him as a child. But this time, he never could be thankful enough for her calling him by that name.
There is nothing that is going to stop them from getting together this time. He was about to show her the stone he was holding for his dear life, but he saw some of the servants of the manor running towards them.
He knew that the little lady meeting a boy in the dark won’t be taken well by the family. She might get punished. And so he decided to stay and talk to her parents. He wanted to ask them for her hand in marriage. And he was not in a hurry. She too was just staring at him, and tears dripped from her eyes. He could see that her happiness is expressed with tears.
“Here,” he held her hand and passed her the stone. “I am your-”
He was about to say that he is Tubby. But he couldn’t. He felt a sharp pain in his chest as if he was pierced by a sharp blade. He does know how it feels to have a sharp blade entering his chest.
“Are you not Tubby?” she squinted her eyes. “It is… Is it one of your schemes, Luke?” she asked and he watched her eyes turning silvery white.
He sensed a soothing mist surrounding him and the pain in his chest dissipated. And her eyes turned back normal and her smile returned.
“I am still not of age, Maximillian,” she smiled. “It is such a shame.”
“Heh!” he let out a scoff. “I was wrong to ever doubt you, Alexandra,” he fixed her hair and gently caressed her cheek.
“Your Highness!” he heard a familiar sound behind him and he was stunned to see one of the Knights there. “We will have to leave.”
“I am going to meet the Lord and Lady of this castle, Horatio.” He was sure about it.
“No, go,” she said, the smile on her lips still persisting. “I will hold on to it,” she pressed the stone to her cheek.
He could see that she is not comfortable with him meeting her parents yet. He bowed and brushed her lips with his lips. “I am sealing my promise with this kiss, Lexa. I will return for you..” He whispered in her ears and in that night painted silver by the bright moonlight, he could see her blushing.
