Surviving In My Novel - Chapter 71
“Little darling, I do not know how you managed it and I will not ask. Your performance has been more than astounding, enough for me to feel a genuine sense of pride.” Malece spoke with an joyful expression.
“I know how to organise things well.” This was a tiny white lie. Simon’s only probable talent in his first life was the way he could organise so many different things and put them into his novel. While the story may have left a sour taste in his mouth, the work in organising it all made him extremely
prideful. Doing his main duties did not take much time away from Simon, but it still felt like a bunch of tedious tasks. However, noticeable changes had taken place in the palace.
Simon had restructured the security procedures for those entering the palace and had added strict protocols for all the food that would enter Malece’s mouth. Along with those achievements, he commissioned a full overhaul of guard’s training and equipment expenditures. Using a variety of new weapons, the guards trained under Simon until they could satisfy his standards. Each guard was to master at least five different weapons, with at least one being a ranged weapon. Utilising the techniques that he once gave to his students under the alias of Peter White, Simon quickly reshaped the entire guard.
Each guard became a powerhouse in their own right, specialising in a different set of weapons from the guard next to them. Every single guard could fulfil the role of marksman, vanguard, and duelist. Not a single guard couldn’t do these things, Simon had simply taught them too well. Lenn had even progressed from being a mere 5th ranked senior guard to becoming the vice-leader, after finally achieving the 6th rank due to multiple epiphanies he had after training under Simon’s techniques.
Without a doubt, Simon had completely reformed the palace guards into a truely elite organisation of soldiers. He had even sent them out on kill missions, with the targets all being a rank above them. And of course, none of them failed. The techniques that Simon bought during his time as professor White could never be underestimated. This was truely the case as all of the guards vowed to become his most loyal subordinates within mere days of entering his care. If they are the avatars of battle, then Simon must be their god.
Of course the training did not only include techniques. Simon had also trained them to be able to at the very least handle one half of the physical training he could, which immensely boosted their overall abilities. Pain became p.l.e.a.s.u.r.e, and p.l.e.a.s.u.r.e became the norm until they no longer felt it. They no longer felt fatigue. Fatigue no longer existed.
“The guards have improved so much that not even I can recognise them from the most elite of Praetors. I am very impressed…so impressed that I will give you more responsibilities! You only have a month left until you enroll in the academy, so this task will be simple. I need you to help me produce an hei-”
“No. I have done these task so well because I do not d.e.s.i.r.e to do just that right now. I am 16 years of age, not even a true a.d.u.l.t. I have completed the A.d.u.l.thood Ceremony, but I am not an a.d.u.l.t. That night only happened because you had procured extremely potent drugs, I assure you that the security measure I installed will make it that not even you can procure such substances with your status as Blood Monarch. Such substances have been marked by me as a ‘threat’.” Simon laughed as he waved his hands. This was also another reason he took his tasks seriously.
“I am your darling consort, and I will not be your slave. A partnership is built on even grounds after all. I will execute my duties well, but I will not be your slave.”
“Fine, abstain for another two years! I was actually offering this to reward you for your hard work. Shame, Little darling is so prudish, even for a young and hormonal devil. Please remember, I am not your enemy, we are already bound by fate to be together.” Malece sighed as she looked at Simon with eyes of slight regret.
“Reward? Lock me in a dungeon with the scarlet worms for my reward! That is better than what you did to me, the humiliation is still engrained in my bones. Please, just show your kindness in a less discomforting way.” Simon laughed as he recalled that night. Standing alone with his subduer, Simon had little restraint. No one will tell him off, he had already earned the entirety of the palace guard’s loyalty. He knew Malece would not dare to kill him, he already sensed her putrid guilt.
“It has been an entire month, do not tell me that you are still of the 5th rank. Your prior progression is too fast for you to stay stagnant.” Malece plainly pointed out as she stepped closer to Simon.
‘I have returned’
Releasing the power of an early 6th ranked visionary, Simon chuckled to himself. Simon was now stronger than he was in his time at Haven, clearly feeling like he could easily squash his past self even without his past abilities and cheats. His lethality was just that honed.
“Nothing is surprising when it comes to you. Even if you talent is just above average, you seem to know more than most. But remember, thanks to you, I too am stronger. I have achieved 1st rank of devil magic, which means I can utterly crush those human fools with the click of my fingers. I will probably visit Hell sooner or later, only when I become a 5th rank magician. Maybe you would have reached the 1st rank of devil magic by then… who knows?”
Devil magics also have ranks like visualisation, perhaps an ascension of sorts? Simon knew everything about it, he knew too much. But what would intrigue many of this world was the fact that Simon did not seem to be startled at the mention of devil magic ranks, almost as if he had seen greater.
‘Progression is so fast in the lesser realm.’
