Surviving In My Novel - Chapter 84
“Name?”
“Simonifirac Crypts. I am looking for my brother, Jazukal Crypts.” Simon urgently spoke to the front desk attendant.
“Yes…yes… your brother has reported to a private sparring match with Ornell Valk just a minute ago.” The front desk attendant replied after sifting through a mountain of records in a crystal.
“Where may that duel be taking place?” Simon asked again.
“Duel Hall B.”
“Thank you very much.” Simon smiled as he ran out from the room and headed for the Duelling Hall.
“You are welcome.”
Simon quickly ran through the corridors and made his way to the Hall. Within the span of half a minute, he managed to arrive at Hall B and opened the door quickly. In the hall were a group of roughly 10 students watching two other students duel on the main duelling platform. Without a doubt, one of the duellists was Jazukal.
Casting a flurry of lightly powered fireballs, Jazukal seemed to be in his prime. With the vigour of youth, Jazukal fended off his opponent’s blows and struck back with his own fire powers. Just a couple of months ago, Simon had bearded witness to Jazukal’s cold corpse, and now Simon is seeing his twin brother alive and well. It seemed surreal.
Jazukal was fighting well against his opponent. But the opponent was none other than a 4th rank devil, which one would consider a genius at this age. Simon did not understand why his brother would be fighting him when he just arrived at the academy.
“Stop.” Simon calmly spoke.
CLANG
“Stop.”
CLANG
SHHHHIII
BANG
Simon got fed up.
“[Crashing Thunder].”
Simon pointes his right index finger at the centre of the stage and summoned forth a huge bolt of lightning that impacted the platform and sent layers of stone flying in all directions, followed by the cracking of thunder. With this, Simon had their attention.
“WHAT THE F**K!!? DON’T YOU SEE WE ARE DUELLING?!! I NEARLY BEAT THIS GUY TO A PULP!!” The other duellist yelled at the top of his lungs.
“Brother?” Jazukal turned and saw his brother looking at him, plain-faced.
“WHO THE F.U.C.K ARE YOU?!! I AM GOING TO BEAT YOU UNTIL YOU WISH YOU’RE DEAD!!”
ZZAAAP
A small bolt of lightning entered the duellist’s body and rendered him unconscious as he fell to the ground, twitching violently.
“Distasteful. Having a duel with a student that has not even spent a week here. Your mouth is also appalling.” Simon remarked.
“Hello Jaz. How do you do?” Simon greeted his brother.
“Uh…brother, I was going to find you soon, but Ornell told me to duel Creshnik. I promise that I thought through my options.” Jazukal explained.
“You are dead, no?” Simon questioned.
“No I’m not. I am alive!”
“Hmmm…before we talk about your ‘disappearance’, please tell me which one of these kind gentleman is ‘Ornell?’”
“The one with the nose piercing.” Jazukal instantly replied.
Simon turned to the back of the hall and spotted Ornell.
“You commanded my brother to fight that brute?” Simon asked with a threatening voice.
“Yes… please forgive me.” Ornell spoke regretfully.
“Get on the platform.” Simon commanded.
“Please….no. I realise my mistakes!”
“My father is a Blood Guardian candidate! They are immensely strong! If you hurt me, you will die!” Ornell desperately yelled.
‘Another one of these kids.’
“Get up.”
Ornell felt a compelling force pull him towards the duelling platform. Within the confines of a second, Simon was in front of Ornel, pointing one index finger towards the latter’s forehead.
“YOU WILL REGRET THI-”
ZZZAAP
The crack of thunder signalled Ornel’s death.
“The rest of you, this death is approved according to the rules of duelling. If anyone says otherwise, they die.” Simon coldly spoke towards the other nine spectators.
“I am being lenient here. You were all conspiring to kill my brother after all.”
The other students left the room with Creshnik in tow, leaving Simon and Jazukal as the sole occupants of the duelling hall.
“Where have you been for the last two months?” Simon asked immediately.
“A powerful master saved me and took me in. He healed a wound on my neck and let me recover and train under him in the deep forest near Reaper city.” Jazukal explained.
“Alas, he said I am not good enough to become his student and sent me back after I completed my rehabilitation.” Jazukal sighed.
“Did this man live near a riverbank?” Simon asked.
“Funny that you mention it, he made me train at a riverbank nearby the house everyday. He said that it calms the mind and soul. But anyways… I am so happy to see you again!” Jazukal leapt at Simon and gave his brother a warm hug.
“Do you remember what happened at the Reaper mansion?”
“No. My last memory was of me getting out of the carriage. I don’t remember anything else.”
Simon stood there dumbfounded. He finally found his brother’s body, alive. And Jazukal does not even remember what happened that night? Simon of course felt disappointment, but also felt incredibly happy that his brother is alive and well. It also seems that Jazukal has become stronger since they last met, but obviously not as strong as Simon. After all, Simon is the only one that can summon furiously powerful bolts of lightning at only 16 years of age.
As to how Simon can call lightning? He spent a small amount of time, in the mansion, practicing control over different elements. This led to some minor discoveries.
“Brother. The master told me to leave this secret for later, but I need to tell you. He is our ancestor! He said that he would gladly take you as his apprentice, so please consider.”
“I will think about it later.”
“Promise me, okay? I only managed to become this strong because of him!”
