Surviving In My Novel - Chapter 87
“Little darling, I assure you, I can explain.”
Simon looked towards her and saw what seemed to be the faintest sliver of a weak and growing energy. To the normal devil, this energy would be drowned out by the sheer mass of her power. However, Simon saw what many cannot. Before him was a faint pulse of power, similar to his own and Malece’s.
“A month ago, you would have fooled me. Today I am much too perceptive for you to be able to avert my eyes.” He stepped forward.
“Now tell me, why did you hide this from me? Did you perhaps want to use this thing as leverage against me? Blackmail me? Dear wife, you seem to take me for a fool.”
Malece sighed and prepared her answer.
“Little darling, this is indeed yours. As to why I did not say earlier, I was too worried that you would attempt to kill it out of rage.”
“Well, why do you want to keep it?” Simon asked with an expression of mistrust.
“It does not do you any benefit in birthing a child. You obviously have more important matters for now, so why do you still have it?” Simon continued referring to the new entity as nothing more than an object. He felt somewhat betrayed and quite furious at Malece.
“I want to be responsible for my actions.” She spoke with an assertive voice. With a genuine smile, she looked at Simon and walked closer to him.
“So you want to use this thing to bring yourself closer to me?” Simon asked.
“Yes.” She replied.
“If my calculations are correct, the thing will be born in one and a half years. Until then, do not speak to me of this. I have no plans on fathering a child right now. You can do as you wish.” Simon left the room with a sense of urgency, disregarding his brother and Malece. In truth, he felt somewhat warm, but he did not want to talk to Malece for the time being. She had kept something from him that he should know of by right. He felt like she had made yet another sleight at him as a person.
“I understand, I promise that the child will be taken care of well until you decide to be it’s father.”
Simon returned to his room in the palace, retrieving a large amount of horn paint so he could continue his ruse a little longer. He had essentially covered most ends until the A.d.u.l.thood Ceremony, guaranteeing that his life would flow smoothly until then. With his brother handled and his own power base consolidated, Simon decided that he would focus only on personal growth for the time being.
He no longer cared about trivial background figures such as Balor Tev, instead, he focused on his own needs. Only a protagonist would be doomed to waste away their time to deal with the antagonist. However, he did promise to himself that if he were to encounter Tev, he would make them suffer a fate worse than that of Ripper.
Simon definitely did not intend on breaking this promise. If Balor Tev were to appear the very next day, Simon would rip off every single limb and feed them to his victim. He did not think to deeply into the topic, nevertheless, he was prepared.
‘As for the child, I will think about it later. My youth has not ended, and I do not feel like I should waste away on a problem that has not already appeared. Productivity is key in these moments.’
KNOCK KNOCK
Simon turned to the door and walked towards it, opening it slowly as he arrived.
“Little darling.” Malece appeared on the other side and entered the room.
“Why are you in my quarters?” Simon asked.
“I fear that you misunderstand me.” Malece replied with a sigh.
“I want to raise this child so I can experience what any other devil of my seniority should have already done. I want to be a parent with a loving partner. I want to experience the joys of raising a happy child that is full of innocence and potential. I want to do it with you. If you do not want to accept this, I understand.” She said genuinely.
“Dear wife, you seem to be missing the big picture.” Simon replied with a hint of tiredness.
“I am 16 years of age. And I never planned on having a child, I never wished for it. As much as this may seem like a warm time, this came from suffering. I have my own reservations, but I will raise it.”
“If you do not mind, I will be returning to the academy. One and a half years until I can let go of this ruse.”
