Surviving Zombies One Day At Time - Volume 1 Chapter 22 22. The Trip 1
Jenny came home and could see all the mess the workers left. Of course, they didn’t finish their work. Everyone was gone with them to the storehouses. She called Mike right away.
“Mike, do we need everyone again? Can’t you leave those workers just finish the job at my place?” She got tired of the mess.
“Sorry, Jenny. After we are done scavenging everything I promise you that the rest if works will be done in one day.” He will help out if it’s needed.
She just felt tired. “Fine. I hope you keep your word. I really need some rest.”
After the shower, she sat comfortably by the window and looked outside. Her house was soundproof before and now as there were no real movements or tragic outside, the house became calm. Just what she needs.
Today’s situation made her realize that she was stronger than she knew, but it’s better no one knew. Some things she wanted to keep for herself. As protection.
The trip to the warehouses and sh.i.p.s went rather smoothly. This time she didn’t use her shield as Mike told her to safe powers. They had enough people and firepower as well.
“Jenny, I don’t know what happened to those people that were left there. If they survived we will need your shield to protect us from missiles. If they turned, we will shoot. Just keep the front line under the shield. OK?”
“OK.” As Mina was driver Jenny relaxed and even nodded off. They never turn music on so they don’t get distracted. But right now she just had the wish to listen to something, but she knew it would be bad. With a deep sigh, she gave up that idea. Not long after she fell asleep.
Mina spoke to Mike for a long time and from time to time she would glance at her. But as they got closer she chose to finally wake her up. Her eyes passed her face and with astonishment, she could see Jenny staring at her absentmindedly. It shocked her as she didn’t pay attention to her while she spoke to Mike. ”What?”
”You know we need to repopulate the Earth again. You two should not wait too long. I do not mind becoming aunt fast. Even tho we saved many children and the city is growing, but don’t forget how many millions of people lived here before. All together with new people we saved, we are not even a couple thousand. You and Mike are having quite a burden on your heads. Repopulation. Ok?” Her words seemed serious but her face had a hint of playfulness.
Mina could feel the heat in her cheeks and her face turning red. She pinched Jenny’s hand and pouted. ”I have at least someone to copulate… I mean populate… You.. you better find someone fast as well. Dad and mom wouldn’t mind taking care of them.
Mina’s family took Jenny as her own and they felt deeply connected to her. Jenny was grateful for that. Mina became more than just a friend to her. She became someone she can rely on.
With narrowed eyes, she poked her b.r.e.a.s.t and smiled brightly. ”Well, at least with feeding the babies you won’t have trouble. Thos look just fine. Did Mike taste them? They kind of look bigger.”
Mina screamed and the two started jokingly pinching and pushing. Luckily they drove in a straight line, or who knows what would have happened. But suddenly Jenny stopped and her eyes became icy.
”They dare?”
Mina became serious as she saw such a change on jenny. ”What happened?”
Jenny shook her head and took the radio. ”Mike..”
”Yes. They turned. But that is not the biggest problem. I think few of them survived and now are shooting at us with new weapons. Will shield be ok? No wrong question. Will you be ok?” Mike was worried will she able to stay unhurt in this case.
Jenny chuckled coldly. ”I am full of energy. Don’t worry. But we need to get rid of those with weapons. I fear with their reckless noises they might get the attention of surrounding zombies. Even if they do not attack us, they might be troublesome for the rest of survivors that are trying to stay out sight. Get those on that truck first. For now, the zombies won’t approach the perimeters.”
The zombies still hated the vibration of the shield and smell of Jenny’s blood, but for how long? It’s better if she gets rid of direct danger than think about something she is safe from, for now.
They could see a few men standing on a big truck and pointing a huge gun towards them. Their comrades that turned into zombies started retreating as the group drover towards them, almost running, making the humans on truck anxious and surprised at the same time.
”Boss, are zombies afraid of humans?” One of the men couldn’t understand.
He had a wicked smile on his face and shook his head. ”No. They are afraid not of humans. I think its Mike’s shield. I am changing my mind. Not far from here is the place we can station and stay for a while. Take trucks with food and munition. We are safe now from zombies as they are distracted by the arrival of those people. Fast!”
They could see that zombies didn’t even try to attack them as they rushed away as soon as possible, making the sigh in relief and run towards trucks.
Mike gnashed his teeth as he saw them driving away. Over the radio, he heard Jenny’s voice. ”Mike, I know you want to go after them, but you can’t. Sorry, but I am covering too much. And those people know. When I get back home I will stay there and will try to make outer shield stronger. I will make air pockets for those that want to survive. With that, we can be safe and save more people that truly want to be with us.”
His eyes shone icily as he exhaled. ”I understand.”
