Surviving Zombies One Day At Time - Volume 1 Chapter 44 44. The Boy
As the hallway was quite quiet she could literally hear everything. Her own breath and sounds of her feet echoing in the darkness. But, teher was no other sound. Jenny smirked and stopped. ”Child, I mean no harm.”
But the darkness continued. Jenny waved her hand and thick shield appeared around her that started pushing the darkness further and further away. Under her curious gaze, it came to her eyes a storage area filled with food and drinks.
In far corners were clamped together children in chains and looked at her with empty eyes. She started walking to the nearest group of children and saw how soulless they just sat there and had no energy to move. ”Child, trust me, please. There are people that came to save you. The bad people are dead and we will take you now to Save heaven city. ”
One girl rose her head weakly and shook her head. ”They will come again and kill again few of us if we rebel.”
Jenny looked at girls foot that was multiple times tied around her ankle and her foot looked like it had no blood flow. With the last reasoning, she stopped herself getting angry and rushed out. ”I need to bring something to take these things off. Wait, I will ask others can they find something…”
A small voice yelled behind her. A young boy that looked like he was about ten or eleven years old stood shakily on his feet and looked at her with determination. ”You said you killed them?”
Jenny calmly nodded. ”Yes, we did.”
”Then find a man with big ears and red jacket on. He holds all the keys.” He staggered and plumped to the floor. ”Hurry up. Most fo children didn’t get anything to eat since yesterday and today they didn’t even get to drink. Hurry up, please.”
Jenny nodded and rushed out. As soon she saw Mike she looked around. ” Find a man with a red jacket and big ears. He has the keys. Children… They are bound like animals. Please hurry up. I think they are dehydrated and hungry.”
She turned her head and saw many women staring at her. ”If you can walk, come here and help us with children. If you can’t walk, stay where you are.”
Even tho it seemed quite cruel to even think about it, but at the present situations he couldn’t handle people trying to help and they actually need help. Then she will get a twice bigger mess.
As everyone who had free hands rushed inside and saw the state the children are they loudly sighed din relief. To be bound sounded bad, but looking at them still being alive, the people waited for keys and as Mike rushed inside he rose the keys up.
”It seems teher are different keys for different groups. So find the right key and if none of them is right, just jump to the other group. I am going to get the chain cutter as well.”
As they all rushed to help children, the young boy stared at Jenny that came back with mixed feelings. “You really came to help us?”
Jenny went down on the floor and patted his head. “Of course. Wait, going to bring your group some water.”
The worst thing was that children were so close to food and drinks, but because the chains they couldn’t touch it.
When she came back with a big package of water she gave each small bottle and warned. “Drink, but slowly. You need to save energy for the trip.”
Luckily they were thirsty but still reasonable. So they slowly drank with small gulps. The boy drank some and then his the bottle inside his clothes.
Seeing his action Jenny went down and patted his head. “In our city, there is enough food and drinks and even schools works. So you can save it for later or slowly sip on it. Your choice.”
Just at that moment one of the women fame with keys and opened the chains. As the chains slowly slid down their ankles, the children were picked up, one by one and taken out.
The group of women from before chose a few children and took them out while Mike and Mina held twin girls in their hands. They came closer to Jenny and saw a boy and smiled at each other.
Jenny pointed at them and patted his head. “These two people care for my family. All people here promised to adopt a child or two. I can’t adopt as I need to leave the city to save more people. But I can highly recommend these two people. Would you like to live with them?”
The boy nibbled on his lips and rose his head towards her. “You will never come back?”
Jenny sighed. “Child, I literally have no idea what might happen to me at my trips. But as Save Heaven is my home and here is my family, I will try my best to come back.”
The boy then stood up and as he was standing on his wobbly legs he smiled. “If they are your family then I will live with them when you are not around. But I don’t want to be adopted by them. My wish is that you become my family. I promise I will be good.”
Jenny sighed and stroke his head. “But what if something happens…”
But the boy shook his head. ”I am not worried. Number one they seem as good people. Number two…” He got closer to her and whispered. “…you are powerful enough to survive. I am sure you will come back home.”
Jenny hugged her tightly into her embrace and whispered. ”I will come back. I will explain something about your power. But not now. Stay here and choose some cute car for two of us. We will drive together back. Ok?”
She could feel his nodding and she smiled brightly. ”Go with Mike and Mina. As soon we are done here we have to go. There are many things I need to find before this mess becomes even harder to handle. Be good.” She patted boys head and poked his cheeks with a smile.
Then she saw Celia and Daria coming closer and left with them as two happy eyes followed her until she disappeared between buildings. The child turned his head and saw main and Mike hugging two girls tightly with love and care written all over their faces. ”They are not bad as it seems true. But I would always choose you as my family. Because you have same thing in your heart. Same… We are same…”
