Sustaining The King’s Life - Chapter 271
271: The world will be ours
“Are you alright, Faustina?” Orwell asked.
“Yes!” Faustina nodded.
“That’s the last of the protection spells, huh.”
Faustina nodded as she stares at the barrier around her. It was already nighttime.
“It’s good that we were able to finish casting these spells before it’s gotten too late.” Orwell said. “We better come back now.”
—
They came back to the castle, and upon entering the castle, they were welcomed by several guards.
“Lady Faustina and Lord Orwell are summoned to the dining hall to dine with the king.” They said.
Faustina felt her heart thump. The king was asking for her?
“We will be there shortly.” Orwell said as he and Faustina both headed to the direction of their quarters, which was conveniently just beside each other.
“It’s most likely they will ask us to aid in battle.” He said. “Although we cannot say if Feuersturm is lacking, there is the uncertainty about the power struggle. If this is indeed the prophecy, then it means all power must be used to stop it. And by any means possible.”
**
Faustina had bathed and changed into cleaner clothes. She walked alongside many guards along with Orwell. They were still vigilant around her. Faustina turned to Orwell who only gave her a smile as they entered the dining hall.
Faustina blinked.
It wasn’t just her and Orwell, but the royals of Zuerst too.
“Come, sit.” The king smiled.
The maids directed Faustina into the seat the was the nearest to the king.
Faustina lowered her gaze.
And then, she bit her lip.
She has power. She wasn’t a weakling as she was before.
She lifted her gaze to meet their looks.
And they weren’t looking at her with much contempt as before.
—
The dinner was suffocating, making the food almost tasteless. But it wasn’t as bad as before when Faustina entered the throne room.
The dinner ended, and yet again she was summoned into the throne room.
“Is it really okay?” She asked Orwell, who was equipping himself with potions as he wore his robe. Faustina was arming herself too.
“I know it is.” He said. “We will be going.”
The throne room opened for the two of them; they were welcomed by the king wearing his armor, and it wasn’t just him who was armed. Everyone else was readying for battle.
“Each day, dark magic surrounds the world.” Said the queen of Eissturm, ice crystals floating around her. “It would not be long until all elemental magic would be rendered useless and the barrier broken. We ought to take action. This is a dire moment.”
“And thus,” continued the young prince of Gronland, kind green eyes looking at Faustina with the Fey floating around him.
“We seek your aid,” said the princesses of the three sister kingdoms.
“Faustina of the Feuersturm country—the daughter of the prodigal mage,” said the king of the Verteidigerin Empire.
Faustina tightened her grip around her staff and then held her chin high.
“I accept.”
**
Sheila trembled in fear as she sat in the middle of the temple, surrounded by clairvoyants.
The future.
Was that the only future?
“I cannot convey such thing to his majesty!” Said Sheilalev to the Council.
The council and the court were the one who uphold the armistice.
And when there is no longer an armistice,
The council and the court are meaningless governments.
However, it’s still not definitive. Zweite is yet to convey its statement of war, but if Feuersturm attacks first, then it will definitely call for a broken peace treaty.
However, until then, the council and the court holds power over Sheila.
“You are in Alte Stadt, priestess.” Said one of the minister of the council. “Know that you are to abide by our rules.”
“Are you telling me that I will just tell the people of Zuerst that in the future, only death and destruction awaits? If I strip them off of their hopes, then—”
“The prophecy cannot be changed.” Said the court, “resistance is futile. This is Zweite’s retribution.”
Sheila clenched her fist.
“Recognize that this is not only Zuerst’s—”
“Shut up.”
The council and the court silenced, surprised by the priestess’ rebuttal.
“Those of you who will wish to stop the prophecy, come with me.” She said. “And those who wish to succ.u.mb to grief, then continue obeying these meaningless people.”
The court and the council did not retort.
Sheila began to walk away, being followed by the clairvoyants.
The Diener des Lichts remained.
“Do you not wish to follow your master?” Asked the court.
‘The prophecy is soon to be fulfilled,’ they said in chorus. ‘because a soul has already risen from the dead.’
‘thousand of corrupted souls have awakened.’
‘the path of destruction is nigh.’
“So,” the court exclaimed. “it has already started.”
‘However,’ the Diener des Lichts then walked away soundlessly, their moss-covered cloaks slowly beginning to wither as they stepped away from the protective barrier, as they become drowsed in the darkness.
‘There is still a little hope.’
**
The moon was at its highest peak as an eclipse came visible. Monsters howled—a sign of an attack.
The sea monsters that protected Assiah are now being fought by those who harbored the blood of the Feuerkriegers.
“Our battle is soon to take place,” said the Forsaken as he slowly walked to the balcony.
A woman with a blood-red dress let her fiery red hair flutter in the breeze. The miasma is getting stronger, and they were getting closer to Assiah.
Below the castle were an army of thousands undead soldiers, marionettes, shadow monsters, and the entities of darkness that long slumbered.
“The world will soon be ours.” The forsaken then sn.a.k.e.d his hand around her waist.
She turned towards him, green eyes meeting red ones.
“Eula.”
