Sustaining The King’s Life - Chapter 274
274: What is the real prophecy?
“Necromancy is a forbidden art, as it defies all laws of this world. Death is the destination of one’s journey. It is the end of all people. That is the natural process of this world.”
The king pointed his blade towards Lilith.
“You do not belong here.” He said, “the prophecy foretold the destruction and death, and it must not be the Forsaken’s return, but yours.”
The forsaken laughed mischievously.
“Oh, child. Know who you are speaking to.” He said, “this is Lilith, the mother of darkness! You are no match for her!”
The king of Feuersturm did not waver.
“The future does not lie, child.” The woman said, “you cannot change what is about to happen.”
Faustina slowly stood up as she held her staff tightly.
‘I’m alright,’ she said with her eyes speaking the words her mouth could not.
The king nodded back, acknowledging Faustina’s words.
He then charged towards Lilith, and then he swung his sword down, but Lilith was quick to catch on.
Faustina then thumped her staff to the ground, ready to aid the king.
“No, you don’t!” Said the forsaken as the shadow chains propelled towards her.
Faustina immediately cast a barrier to protect herself. The barrier was made of light magic, making the shadows disappear.
“Ah, I keep forgetting you are the prodigy’s daughter…” The forsaken said. “But then I also remember that you are severely inexperienced!”
Faustina’s eyes widened as she felt hands around her feet. The hands came from the ground that had a magical circle in it.
Without saying a word the forsaken imprisoned her in a cage made from hellfire.
“Aqua!”
Water magic had no effect on the cage.
“Can’t you see?”
The hellfire cage then slowly began to shrink, making Faustina bend down to her knees as she tried to avoid being burned by it.
“The prophecy is irreversible.” He said. “It’s all futile.”
Faustina then used earth magic to dig a hole to the ground. She then used it to create a boulder below her to propel herself back to the surface.
“Such tricks won’t work!”
The forsaken’s eyes widened as he realized that the one in the top of the boulder was a makeshift mold of Faustina using earth magic.
“Looking for me?!” Faustina then used electric magic from behind and then electrocuted the forsaken.
The forsaken fell down, but he was quick to deflect the magic.
“Well played.” He said. “You really are not as bad as I thought you are.”
The forsaken smiled.
“You’ve grown stronger.”
Faustina’s eyes widened in surprise, but she was quick to recover.
“Using my father… will not have an effect on me!”
“Is that so?” The forsaken continued to walk forward, while Faustina continued to conjure different types of magical spells.
But he was just walking unscathed, as if the spells do not have any effect on him.
“Can you still say that,”
Faustina blinked.
He was now leaning to her ear, even if he was just a distance away just a second ago.
“If you knew that our souls have merged somehow?”
“…What?”
“I am your father,” the forsaken said in his voice. “And your father is I,” he spoke in Jonathan’s voice.
“We are the same entity now.” He said. “Lilith had made us one. Now, if you are to accept this—Lilith, no—Eulalia, you, and I… will be family.”
Faustina never felt so nauseous before.
Family?
With a murderer, a demon residing in her mother’s body?
Faustina trembled in anger.
“Do you accept, my child?” The forsaken exclaimed as he held both of her shoulders.
“I do.” Faustina murmured.
“You do?”
“Yes,” Faustina smiled. “In an alternate reality, that is!”
The forsaken’s eyes widened.
“N-NGH!”
He then began to cough blood as he slowly walked away from Faustina.
Faustina held a crystal dagger tightly.
“H-how…” The forsaken mouthed, “how are you holding… an exact replica of the sword of Feuersturm!”
Faustina looked down on the forsaken as he slowly drew away, holding his bloodied c.h.e.s.t to stop the bleeding.
**Several hours before the battle…
Faustina returned to her room for a short while; they will be leaving the castle premises on the crack of dawn. She figured it was best to wait without the hostile gazes of the others.
“Why the long sigh?”
Faustina blinked, and immediately rose from the bed.
“Your majesty!”
The king came from the balcony—as if he was sneaking to her.
“What did I say?” He walked towards her. “You should call me Noah.”
The king gave her a peck in the lips.
“Wh…what brings you here, your majesty?” Faustina asked the moment she snapped out of her dazed expression.
“I’m here to give you this.”
Faustina then stared at what the king was holding. Something sharp that was wrapped in a cloth.
“…a dagger?”
“Yes.”
The dagger’s blade was crystal-like. It had familiar engravings.
It was almost as if… “This looks exactly like your sword, your majesty.”
The king smiled, “because it is.”
“Huh?”
“You and I now share a pact between our souls,” he said. “Which means that you can do what I can do, wield what I am able to wield, and that goes the same with me.”
Faustina blinked. “Does this mean… I share the king’s power?”
“Not entirely.” He said, “just like how I cannot use black magic, or how you cannot use the opus.”
“This dagger is a fragment of the sword of Feuersturm. It is known to be the one that ended the forsaken a thousand years ago.”
**
“What did you say again?” Faustina looked down as the forsaken’s left side began to dissipate in the air.
“That’s right. You said that the prophecy comprised of me, a Heilen; the king, and…” Faustina looked down on him.
“The sword of Feuersturm.”
She then pointed the dagger down to the forsaken.
“Tell me,” Faustina uttered. “What is the REAL prophecy?”
