Sweet Surrender: The Ceo’s Second Wife - Chapter 270 So Empty
Alex arrived in the city at 9:00 in the evening. He went straight to the funeral homes. The only person he saw there were Rudy and Saling. He stared at his brother’s face inside the coffin. Greg’s face looks serene, it looks like he welcomes his death with open arms and did not die in pain.
“Why did you do it, brother? Why? Why did you leave me?” he lamented as tears fall from his eyes.
He let the tears drowned his sorrow. It’s safe to cry because no one was around to see his pain.
He stayed in that position for half an hour staring at his brother’s face, deep down, he felt so sad and lonely.
Standing for so long made his knees go weak. He sat on the chair.
Saling come to his side and offered him a cup of coffee. “Have some coffee, Sir,” she said.
“Thank you, Saling,” he said. He sipped the hot liquid and placed the cup on the empty seat beside him.
Rudy took a seat beside him and handed him the receipts from the hospital and the funeral homes. “Sir, here are the receipts,” he said.
Alex looked at Rudy with a gloomy expression on his face. “Just keep that with you, I have no energy to deal with that right now…” he said.
“Okay, Sir. Just one question, Sir, until when we shall keep Sir Greg’s body here?” Rudy asked.
“Three days the most,” he replied.
“Okay. Are the flowers enough, Sir? Shall we add more?” asked Rudy.
Alex sweeps his gaze at the flowers and shook his head. “I think they’re enough,” he said.
Rudy stood up. “Just call me, Sir, if you need something,” he said and went to the last chair and sit down there waiting for his employer’s order.
Alex took his phone from the pocket of his sweatshirt and typed a message to the orphanage informing Sister Naomi that Greg already passed away. He also texted Owen and told him about Greg’s sudden passing.
He went out of the funeral homes to eat dinner in a fast-food restaurant nearby. Then he returned to the funeral homes and stay there until 4:00 in the morning. He retired to his mansion and sleep until 11:00 in the morning and report to his office to take care of some important things that needed his immediate attention.
By 6:00 in the evening, he was already back in the funeral homes. The sisters in the orphanage were already there to give their last respect to Greg. Owen and the kids and the whole Allison’s household staff arrived a few minutes later.
Everyone took their time viewing the deceased in the casket for a few minutes and recites their prayers for Greg’s eternal peace in heaven.
At 10:00 in the evening. The sisters of the orphanage and Owen’s entourage left the funeral homes to retire for the night.
Alex and some servants stayed inside the funeral homes.
Half an hour later. Saling and Rudy arrived to take their shift.
By midnight, Alex went home to rest and sleep.

The next day.
At 9:00 in the morning.
Wow! Alex feels a bit elated after he received a text message from someone special that puts a smile on his face. He reads it repeatedly.
Tell me the address of the funeral homes. I’ll send flowers to Greg. Take care and stay strong!
The message came from Caroline. He quickly typed the address.
Her text message cheered him up somehow and expelled the gloom of his sorry condition. He starts the day feeling a little bit energized.
He goes to work and texted Rudy a few times asking inquiring how everything is going in the funeral homes. By 5:00 in the afternoon, he was already out of his office going to the funeral homes. The sisters were already there as well as Owen and the children.
He doesn’t feel much lonely anymore while staring at the three big funeral flowers with a stand that Caroline has sent over. The flowers have only a few words written on it.
With Deepest Sympathy~ From CRLN
She’s not here physically to sympathize with his sorrow but she cares enough to send flowers for Greg’s funeral. And for him, that is more than enough given that with her current condition, she can’t pay her last respect to his brother, that at some point in the past, she loved and cherish dearly.
He released a deep sigh.
Now that his siblings were gone…maybe God will take him down next.
He only had one wish, before he dies, he just wants to spend some quality times with Caroline. Which is impossible in the current times. But then, it’s free to fantasize and dream of her from afar, which he kept doing until now. He has no problem with that.

Funeral day.
Sunday, 2:00 in the afternoon.
Alex and the rest of the mourners gathered in the cemetery wearing white attire. They were holding flowers in their hands.
After the priest finished the funeral mass, the coffin was now being lowered into the newly dug grave.
The mourners toss the flowers into Greg’s casket.
A few minutes later, the cemetery staff began putting back the soil into the grave.
Alex’s heart was being squeezed painfully as the soil was slowly burying his brother’s coffin, six feet under. “Goodbye brother,” he murmured sadly to himself.
Alex, Owen, and the rest stayed in the cemetery until late afternoon.
When darkness finally descended, they decided to go home. They boarded their vehicle and went home.

Blue Bell Residences.
Caroline received a text message from Alex informing her that they already left the cemetery. After reading the message, she immediately deleted it, anxious that her husband might accidentally read it.
She released a sigh of relief. After God had taken Allison’s life, she did not expect that Greg comes next.
God loves her so much!
“Thank you God!” she murmured to herself.

Alex finally arrived at his mansion. He went straight to his room upstairs and changed his clothes.
He went to the bed and lie down. He closed his eyes thinking of Caroline. A faint smile appeared on his lips. He took his phone from the pocket of his pants and typed a message to his lady love. Thank you for cheering me up during my darkest hour.
He received a quick reply from her. Don’t mention it.
They exchanged text messages.
Thank you for the flowers.
You’re welcome. How are you?
I’m feeling sad and down, but your messages cheer me up.
Don’t worry, soon… you will get over your sadness and grief. You will be back on your feet in no time. Continue living for the people who depended on you… that is how your siblings want to see you in heaven.
Thank you so much! I’m deeply touched by your words.
Sorry, I have to say bye, my twins need to feed. Take care of yourself and always look at the brighter side of life. And one more thing, please don’t text me anymore on this number, I’m afraid that my husband will get angry if he will discover that I’m texting a stranger. I hope you understand. Take care of yourself always, bye!
…
And that’s it! That was her last text to him.
Alex closed his eyes, clearly disappointed that Caroline no longer wishes to continue their communication that started with Greg’s death.
Damn! His happiness was short-lived.
