Sweet Surrender: The Ceo’s Second Wife - Chapter 307
Mike and Caroline addressed everyone in the living room.
Caroline talked first. “Guys, thanks for coming here. I have a piece of news for you, I am pregnant, but not with my husband’s child… but with another man,” she said casually.
Everyone gasped in shock.
“Because of that reason, my husband and I decided to separate this time for good. We decided to have an amicable separation for the sake of our children, Suzanne and Justin. Our separation will put everyone’s mind in peace. This way we all can move on and continue living our life without stress. I will take this opportunity, to thank you all for supporting this family until now. But as you can say, we are just humans and we made big mistakes in our marriage life. Both Mike and I destroyed our marriage vows at the same time and now it’s too late to repair the damage. We wish each other peace of mind and remained cordial to each other while we are undergoing this difficult situation in our lives. Thank you guys for supporting us.” Caroline ended her speech.
Susan wore a shocked expression on her face, she looked at her son for confirmation.
Mike cleared his throat. “My beloved family, what Caroline has told you today is the truth. Today, we decided to end our marriage amicably in front of you. I will file an annulment soon so that each of us can have the freedom to pursue our happiness. I will give Caroline the rights to visit our children anytime she wants. She and I will stay on good terms for the sake of our children. So, please respect our wishes and decisions,” he said.
Everyone in the living room looked at each other in total surprise and disbelief except for Althea who smiled radiantly after hearing that the couple will finally separate for good.
She’s smiling happily. Yessss! She and Mike can finally have a chance to get married in church! She’s been dreaming of that final day! She caresses her stomach in good spirit. Her coming today to the couple’s place resulted in an unexpected decision that works in her favor.
While Althea was wearing a happy expression on her face, the rest were looking sad, frustrated, and devastated.
Mike went to Althea’s side. “Come with me, I’ll take you home,” he said softly.
Althea fastened her hands possessively on Mike’s arms while they walked away without looking back at the people in the living room.
Mike and Althea were already long gone.
The people sitting on the couch were still reeling from the shock and bewilderment.
Caroline went back to the master’s bedroom to finish her packing.
Susan followed Caroline into the room. “Daughter-in-law, why are you deciding to end the marriage so quickly?” she asked.
Caroline looked at her mother-in-law. “Mother, legal separation is the best solution for Mike and me. He can finally pursue a relationship with Althea legally.” She paused for a minute and continue. “I would like to apologize that I was never been a good daughter-in-law to you. I wish I can make it up to you one day. Thank you for being kind to me all this time,” she said.
“It’s your final decision?” Susan asked.
Caroline nodded her head. “Yes, it’s my final decision,” she answered.
Susan’s heart sank heavily.
“Please, take care of my children for me,” Caroline said with tears in her eyes.
Susan sighed and finally accepted Caroline’s decision. “Okay, rest assured that Suzanne and Justin are in good hands. I will take care of them the best I can,” she replied.
“Thank you so much, Mother!” Caroline said.
“When are you leaving?” Susan asked.
“I’ll leave tonight,” replied Caroline.
“You take care of yourself. I’ll take my leave now,” Susan said and left the room.
Back in the living room.
When Catherine saw her mother-in-law returning to the living room wearing a sad expression on her face, she rose to her feet. “I’ll talk to my sister!” she said and bolted to the master’s bedroom.
Susan sat beside John.
“How’s your talk with Caroline, Mother?” he asked.
Susan sighed and shook her head in defeat. “I was trying to save their marriage but I think they already decided. There’s nothing we can do for them anymore. I asked Caroline if her decision is final and she said yes, so I no longer insist on a solution. I think the couple is already tired of their marriage problems so they opted to go their separate ways. I think they chose this way so that they can have peace of mind,” she said.
“This is terrible!” John was shaking his head, feeling sad for the couple.
Susan continues, “It’s kind of sad, but some good things are never meant to last. Their marriage runs its course already and kind of fizzled out, and no amount of saving can make them stay together under one roof. So…it’s useless to intervene on the twin’s behalf. The couple is determined to separate legally, the best thing we can do now is to give them our full support so that they can finally move on quickly, heal their wounds and live a peaceful life,” she concluded.
John was speechless still reeling from the shock. Although he sees it coming, he never expected it will happen too soon, for real.
Meanwhile…
Inside the master’s bedroom.
Catherine was trying to talk sense in her twin’s head. “Sister, there still time to change your decision! Please, listen to me! I’m sure Mike will understand your situation,” she insisted.
Caroline shook her head. “Catherine, stop convincing me to change my mind. Mike and I already made the decision, we don’t want to change it. I don’t want to change it. Period!” she said adamantly.
Catherine was irritated by her sister’s stubbornness. “So, what are you going to do with your life now? Where are you going to stay now that you’re pregnant?” she asked.
“Don’t worry about me. The father of my child is willing to take me in. I’m going to live with him. Don’t worry, he is single and wealthy. He wants to marry me,” Caroline explained positively.
Catherine was still feeling bad about her twin’s decision. “Why are you always making bad decisions in your life? Why did you screw up such a perfect marriage life with Mike? I can’t understand you at all!” she complained.
Caroline took a deep breath. “My dear sister, one day, I will tell you everything. You might not able to understand what is happening to me right now, but when the right time comes. I’ll tell you everything,” she said.
Catherine pouted. “You always say that to me. But you never tell me everything. I’m so confused with your life’s decisions! You always put me and our mother in a stressful situation!” she lamented.
Caroline sighed. “I know. I’m sorry that I put you through this. It’s never my intention,” she apologized. “Can you please call mother and tell her to come here? I need to talk to her personally. I will explain myself to her,” she said calmly.
“Fine!” Catherine left the room, super annoyed that her twin sister is throwing a perfect marriage just like that!
