Tales Of Reincarnation - Chapter 1 Prologue
Civilization was destroyed; what was left were corpses strung across cities that had fallen, buildings caving on each other, and humanity at its last inch. We weren’t prepared, we fought too much between ourselves to know how to unite, and it was a massacre.
It began with a semi-transparent screen appearing in front of everyone, it wrote ‘status’ at the top with the name of the person below it. It described in numbers the traits and abilities of each person, it was an appraisal. It was followed by a voice that spoke to us.
“Struggle, Survive and Challenge me. Become Strong! Slay all monsters.”
Monsters started to appear everywhere, it was abrupt, and for the billions of people that had lived peaceful lives until then, it was cruel. It was ugly and messy, the view littered with limbs.
You were either mortified at the blood that covered you, the mark of your survival, or you were petrified at the loss of your friend that died in front of you. If you were dead, it was a kind of blessing, for these matters concerning pain and fear were only for the living.
I am proud to say that humanity fought back, that despite those feelings of fear and pain that we didn’t give up.
“Heroes appear in troubled times, and it couldn’t have been truer. I watched as they appeared, and I heard them appear all over the world. It was poetic, it was beautiful, and it gave us hope.
Slowly humans became stronger, our machines and bullets couldn’t kill these monsters, but something had changed in our bodies. Our bodies could endure more, our minds processed faster, and we gained abilities that were as terrifying as the monster themselves.
There were classes, levels, traits, abilities, and skills. We learned the system that was given to us; the status screen and voice that accompanied our accomplishments were tools of survival.
We gathered, the remnants of humanity, and slowly took back our home. It was grueling, days of battling, and many lives lost; we conquered lands, and found treasures, it was the beginning of a new age.
The monsters grew stronger, but so did we. And it seemed like we were winning, we were pushing them back, we were going to kill them all. It was going to end!
The greatest threat to man though was never another species; it was always our own race that caused the most destruction. I believed the battle between us and monsters didn’t truly destroy us, however, the battle between people truly ruined us from within.
“A hero appears, and a villain isn’t far away.”
“We were betrayed by our own kind, for greed, and it broke us.”
I cannot stress further what this means, for humanity would have won, there were many heroes among us; however, how many great men have died due to the greed of another man.
It was decades before we stood up from the ashes of our betrayal. It wasn’t enough, five heroes appeared and men rallied to their call, but our enemies gathered their strengths. Simply said, we lost. We were close, and despite all our setbacks, we had come to an inch of ending this all. But we had failed humanity, and that was it.
We were slowly invaded, we were quickly conquered, and our people taken as slaves. This was war, and we had lost. In the midst of our confusion and fear, they retreated.
A mission objective was then posted, it was the second one ever given by the system.
“Failure! A second chance is given, for the lineage of the five heroes, each one will send a descendant and they will be reincarnated to another world to save it. Prepare and train them, for if they fail, all of humanity must die!”
