Tales Of Reincarnation - Chapter 2
A beam of light shot towards the sky, it separated the clouds, and the brightness of it could be seen for miles. It originated from the figure of a young man; shackles were restraining him, while the figure of a girl stood in front of him, her palm hovering above his head. Their silhouettes hinged to a small boat that was anchored in the middle of a lake.
She fell on the young man’s shoulders.
The young man’s figure struggled, he screamed, and his voice begged for help.
“You are my chosen, Wang Ye,” She whispered into his ears.
Wang Ye always hated those words; it was a curse on him.
“Save her! Save Her! Bastards, Save Her!” Wang Ye cursed at the surroundings, but he was only met with the silence of the surrounding forest.
……….
An old man accompanied by a woman with a cold expression stood on the top of the branches of trees, they watched as Wang Ye cursed at them.
“Was this the right thing to do?” The cold woman asked, her face briefly showing a pained expression.
“It isn’t the wrong thing to do, and we must settle for that.” The old man grimly replied.
“What if we had done thing differently, there were other options”
“And what if we had won, then these two would have lived peaceful lives, it is pointless to regret. We can only go forward now.”
The old man abruptly vanished, and reappeared at the front of the boat, walking calmly on water towards Wang Ye.
“Will you go?” The old man calmly asked.
“She didn’t deserve this, your tricks and games, she should have been chosen!” Wang Ye shouted.
“You were chosen, but you refused.” The old man coldly replied.
“They called for someone strong, I am weak, and she was invincible.”
“So why did she lose to you? ”
There was a moment of silence, Wang Ye looked up, rage flaring across his face. He didn’t dare move, because she rested coldly on his shoulders. It was a nightmare for him.
“Why…she was your daughter, why couldn’t you just look the other way, she could have lived!” Wang Ye wept, his voice breaking as he uttered words rampantly.
“I wanted to, she was my blood, and you were a mongrel. The love of a father is as deep as the ocean, I believe she would have succeeded, and even if she had failed then at least she might have lived. What is my life, your life, or anyone’s life compared to hers in my heart.” The old man bluntly said.
“Why then?”
“Because she asked me to, because she loved you because she believed in you. She saw a hero inside of you. Do you deserve it?”
“I don’t!” Wang Ye grimly replied, he slowly broke the shackles that held him, his muscles straining against the pressure as the chains slowly cracked. It shattered, metal pieces shooting across the boat.
Wang Ye gently put his arms around the girl on his shoulders, the skin of his fingers slightly burned in the shape of obscure symbols. He stood up while carrying her in his arms, his eyes full of anguish, and his body as still as a rock.
The cold woman suddenly appeared in the sky above them, her gentle figure floating quietly on to the boat. She hesitantly tried to come closer to the solemn figure in front of her, but the rage emanating across the air from this young man made her stop.
“She was a hero in every sense of the word, it was her dream to save everyone, and she believed it was her duty as a human to save us. She gave herself wholeheartedly to this ideal. If there had been more people like her, then we would have won, you could have been with her peacefully.” The cold woman flatly said.
“What is your point Aunty Xue, that I owe something to everyone, and I have a duty to save humanity?” Wang Ye snorted derisively.
“You are far from being a hero that she already was, you don’t owe anything to humanity or anyone here except her. You owe it to her to become the person my sister believed in even if she was wrong, it is unfair, but she saw something in you.” Aunty Xue bluntly replied, her fingers pointing towards the dead figure in Wang Yue’s arms.
The old man looked straightly at Wang Ye, his eyes glancing for a moment at his daughter in his arms with a pained expression shooting across his face. His aura was gathering around him while creating disturbances across the air.
“Do you deserve it?” The old man asked in a booming voice, his voice resonating across the forest, the pressure swaying the branches of the surrounding trees and creating ripples across the still lake.
Wang Ye then glanced at her pale face; she had an expression of peace emanating from her, he then looked up to the heavens and shouted.
“I don’t, but I will try to. I, Wang Ye, swear to you my love that I will fulfill your dream. I will go, I am her chosen.” His eyes emanating a glow filled with unwavering determination.
………….
Wang Ye didn’t have much to prepare, any item he brought would have been useless. His remaining days spent in his hometown were by the lakeside, where she was buried inconspicuously in a bed of flowers.
The tombstone that marked her resting place was inscribed neatly with a few words.
‘My Love, Qing Shan, To Another Life Where You Can Be Called Wang Shan.”
Wang Ye carried with him a bundle of papers every day by the lakeside, where he studied furiously in order to better prepare for his reincarnation.
The mission objective was vague in many parts; it was studied carefully in order to better understand what kind of talent was required to succeed in the otherworld. It was clear that the abilities in this world wouldn’t be carried over to the otherworld; this caused a whole different rating system for a chosen.
It didn’t matter whether you had an ancient bloodline, a heavenly physique, or even if you were the highest realm in this world it didn’t matter in being a chosen. It was the intelligence, character, and willpower of a person that allowed one to be a candidate.
Wang Ye sifted through manuals concerning various fields, there were many specialties offered for areas of studies because skills were highly valued in this era. If one was able to master a skill in this era, it increased a person’s value as a candidate, because it was likely that knowledge and comprehension would still be transferred to the otherworld.
The wind blew slightly around him, Aunty Xue appearing behind Wang Ye, his lonesome figure filled with determination.
“Are you prepared?” Aunty Xue asked, her voice low and uncertain.
“I have to be” Wang Ye wondered briefly
“How many more days do I have?”
“The ceremony begins in two days, everyone else has already arrived at the sanctuary.”
“Who are the other chosen?” Wang Ye asked with quiet intensity.
“Everyone else that was chosen is as expected. You are the only surprise among all factions, a lot are quite furious that you were named chosen.” Aunty Xue calmly replied.
Wang Ye stood up, the piles of paper surrounding quickly being sucked into the ring on his right forefinger, all of it vanishing from the lakeside. He unhurriedly walked towards Aunty Xue, his face expressionless.
Wang Ye looked back for a moment, his eyes seeming to ingrain the image of the tombstone, he seemed to want to speak but only a sigh escaped his lips.
“Let us go, I must prepare further.” Wang Ye vaguely instructed.
………….
There were five figures placed in the form of a circle, symbols, and runes variously placed in the area surrounding their feet, an eerie silence echoed in these ruins. Pillars supporting the remains of a structure, various parts of it broken and repaired, it seemed desolate of any life a far from them.
Each faction of the five heroes sent their chosen, it consisted of two young men, a middle-aged man, and two young women. They didn’t speak with one another, there was nothing more which needed to be said, and the heroes waited in silence for their death.
The circle of runes began to light up, a spike protruded from the ground in each side, piercing each of these heroes. Their bodies not struggling as they stopped moving while breathing their last breath in this world.
Wang Ye groggily woke up trying to gather information from his surroundings; it was an eerie feeling as he had a jarring pain in his mind, his body seemingly weightless. He looked around to see figures around him, vaguely there, but transparent when he looked at them closely.
The whole area was a large white space; there was nothing else but them.
In front of Wang Ye, there was a silhouette body whose features consisted of a mouth and a single eye. His expression seemingly amused, as his mouth was in a wide grin.
“Heroes! You shall be reincarnated in an otherworld; you must create peace, all of you must strive to save it from the war that ravages the land. Any questions?” The obscure single eyed figure mockingly asked.
A voice from the right of Wang Ye began murmuring before asking a question, the sound of a young woman.
“What is the situation of the battle in the otherworld?”
“Monsters and humans are in a never-ending war, but the humans here have gathered their forces and with their strength have been able to keep them at bay.”
“What about their level of knowledge and technological advancement?” the middle-aged man furrowing his eyebrows asked.
“They are well versed in combat and magic, and their knowledge in ancient arts far surpasses your world. As for technology, it is considered banned in this world certain kinds of advancements, much of your knowledge will be useless under the heavenly laws of this other world.”
A heavy sigh came from the figure of a young man, his head nodding, but it took him a moment to find his voice.
“What specifically is considered as saving the world, how will we know that we have won?”
“I refuse to answer, it is clear what must be done based on the experiences of your world, if you are chosen you must use the mistakes of humans to win”
Wang Ye scanned the surrounding figures around, keeping quiet as he tried to ponder further about his situation, the single-eye figure seems bored towards them even a bit repulsed by us.
“Do all of our abilities work in this other world?” The young woman to his left asked, her voice irritated at the earlier response.
“Many of your acquired abilities can be trained, but you must adapt to your situation of the otherworld in order to use them again. Now let us hurry, wasting my time with these silly questions, experiencing it is much faster. Now ask me your question!” The single-eyed figure in a booming voice demanded, his eyes pointing straight towards Wang Ye.
Wang Ye paused, his eyes focusing straight towards this unnatural figure, his heart pumping as he asked.
“When we are reincarnated as humans, how do you choose what is our social standing, and are we all reincarnated as aligned to the same faction?
The wide grin grew even larger in the eerie figure, his eyes pointing straight towards Wang Ye, a burst of deep unnatural laughter emanating inside him resounding across space.
“Who said you would be reincarnated as humans?”
Wang Ye then blacked out, the last thing he saw was the wide grin accompanied with the sound of mocking laughter.
