Taming My Vampire Servant - Chapter 231
Physician Apprentice Lycus
During the war, Physician Daphne assisted the wounded soldiers. At that time, the newbie apprentice Lycus could heal people using magic, and so when Goddess Destinia took all the blessed mana in the Kingdom, he couldn’t do anything to help anymore.
Lycus, now a pure human, was totally disheartened about this. One sunny morning, Daphne caught him having a deep sigh while he did his tasks.
Lycus stood by the counter, chopping turmeric with a disappointed look on his face. He was not complaining and he did a great job as an assistant, but he still felt useless.
“Good morning, Lycus,” she greeted with a warm smile.
“Good morning, Master Daphne,” the silver-haired man slightly turned to greet her, “I’m almost done… I shall buy ginseng and licorice afterwards.”
Daphne patted his back, “Aren’t you working too hard? You may take a break, okay?”
But Lycus shook his head, “I must be an efficient assistant to you… I feel so useless after the war.”
The female physician understood him. It must be hard to adjust under the circumstances, especially that he was previously a Servant who was used to having immense power.
Because of this, Daphne had a great idea. She made Lycus follow her towards a room that smelled of old paper and wood. Near the high shelves, which were stacked with scrolls, was a study table and a bow window.
The ex-Werewolf stared curiously at the rolls, wondering what information they contained.
“Lycus, these are all books about medicine. How about I take you as my apprentice physician?”
When he heard Physician Daphne’s suggestion, Lycus widened his eyes in surprise.
“Are you sure?”
Daphne replied, “Of course! After all, I’ve been thinking of having an apprentice. With your interest in medicine, you’re surely fit for it.,” she patted his shoulder, “Don’t be upset now, okay?”
“Am I going to be alright? Will I be able to learn as much as you do?” he worriedly asked.
“I will teach you everything, of course. How about we start from the basics?”
Looking for a certain scroll on the shelf, Daphne read each wooden tag attached to the scrolls by a jute string.
Lycus took the scroll with a metallic top handle bar from her, then unrolled it. Inside were a list of symptoms of certain common diseases, and sketches of herbs that were effective as cures. All were laymanized because it’s for beginners, making it easy for Lycus to understand although it was his first time to read about them.
And so the whole week, Lycus got absorbed in reading the scrolls. Since then, Physician Daphne let him watch her working while he took notes about the patients’ conditions.
After three years of experience and passing the physician’s exam, he left Valios City in the Land of Rosaria, and set up his own clinic in Omegalion City in the Land of Olivea. He was given the position to be the Adviser of students for the Medicine Course at Qawiun Academy.
Anastasia and Lucius’ Entwined Fate
“She’s awake!!! Anastasia, how do you feel?!” The teary eyed educator yelled after seeing her sister open her eyes. It had been two days since Goddess Destinia decided to leave with Wolfram and the other Werewolves.
Confused, Anastasia couldn’t answer her at once. She couldn’t remember what happened the past few days.
“Anastasia?” Rosanna called, waving her hand in front of her.
“I… I don’t know…” she murmured. The gingerhead looked up the intricate ceiling with golden outlines of the wolf head-shaped carvings on the ceiling. She blinked until her sight adjusted to the window’s light, seeing a blond young man slid the curtains sideways.
“We’re in one of the castle chambers for guests,” Rosanna told her.
Anastasia nodded, then turned her head towards the unfamiliar, handsome man. She couldn’t take her eyes away from him, and her sister noticed this.
“It was him who helped you,” she explained to Anastasia, “It’s because I know you’re with him that I always feel at ease. You’re fortunate that you have a good friend like Mister Goldwine.”
“Apologies, but… who…?”
Lucius and Rosanna widened their eyes in shock, then looked at each other. After a few seconds, it came to their minds that the Goddess might have taken some of her memories.
“I get it now. After all, it was Goddess Destinia’s soul whom I met…” Lucius sighed, feeling miserable that he got charmed by the holy being, “That’s why she wrote in the holy scroll that I should look after you from now on.”
“Look… after me?” Anastasia sat up, assisted by her sister.
Educator Rosanna then said, “How about I give you some porridge, or egg soup? Do you feel like eating?” When her sister nodded, the Educator quickly left and proceeded to the kitchen, leaving Lucius and Anastasia in the room.
“Uhm… Thank you…” she uttered.
Noticing her trembling hands, Lucius approached, then sat on the vacant chair beside the bed. “You must have felt confused. Don’t worry, Ana- I mean, Miss Gaian. From now on, you can rely on me. I will give you all the support you need… I’ll make sure you’ll live happily and comfortably.”
Anastasia blushed when she heard this from the handsome young man. It was as if he’s proposing marriage, but of course it was not like that!
She just nodded at him. Embarrassed, she looked away, avoiding his gaze that had been on her.
When Educator Rosanna returned, she brought with her a bowl of egg and mushroom soup on a polished wooden tray. As she fed Anastasia carefully a spoonful of the soup, she mentioned the life she had when she was still Goddess Destinia’s vessel.
Anastasia was amazed with the stories of her sister. She wondered how it felt to have a healthy and carefree life. She was actually surprised when she heard that she even had a collection of colorful above-the-knee ruffled dresses.
Throughout that day, Lucius never left them, and also went to the physician for a thorough check up. Even in the consecutive weeks, he was there to pick her up and know her condition.
The physician said that she’s already become very healthy. She was allowed to go out anytime, and she could do any activities that she wanted.
And so, when a month passed, Lucius threw a feast for Anastasia after knowing that she’s blessed with vigor and vitality. It was held in the Goldwine mansion hall, and guests wore their best formal outfits. Those invited were Ivory and Sigmund, and mostly Qawiun Academy employees and graduates who knew Anastasia when she was still a vessel. King Levi and Queen Caille were also invited, but they couldn’t come because of how busy they were.
The hall was adorned with red and white roses. Atop the tables with black linen table clothes were red long candles of different heights.Anastasia sat on one of the front seats. She clenched on the smooth high quality velvet fabric of her wine red v-neckline with bowknot dress.
“May I have your first dance?” Lucius smiled sweetly at Anastasia.
Her cheeks turned red as a tomato while she slowly nodded, taking his hand.
While the two of them danced with music in the middle of the carpeted hall, Lucius pulled her a little closer. He told her, “Miss Gaian, may I ask you a question?”
“Uhm yes. What is it, Mister Goldwine?”
Lucius’ blue irises stared at her amorously, “Can I… Can I be your lover?”
The shocked Anastasia couldn’t believe what she just heard, making her miss a step!
The blond young man quickly caught her by the waist before she fell backwards. There was a loud cheer from the crowd as they thought it was part of their dance.
“Can I think about it?” Anastasia shyly said.
The music ended, and there was an applause from the guests.
Lucius took her hand and kissed its back. He gazed at the most beautiful woman that he had ever seen.. “Of course… I shall wait patiently for your reply.”
