Terrarium Adventure - Chapter 24
Perhaps the logic that levels up in low revel stages were relatively faster applied in this game too, for Daisy’s growth speed was commendable.
She who used to split a small fire into four was not able to handle it in twos.
Around this period, Mesquite started to teach Daisy about continuous battles.
Prior to this, the main goal was to increase Daisy’s combat skills so she was left behind, but Meskit thought that for the sake of future battles it was important to understand one another’s strengths in the team to maximize our synergy.
Of course, I agreed to his reasoning and lent a listening ear whenever Daisy had her lessons. After all, you never know when the things you pick up along the way may prove to be useful one day.
Unlike Daisy, Mesquite who was the shield of the team had a higher tolerance for fire. For Daisy, a slight brush against the flames led to a burn whereas Meskit was tolerant to most fires.
However, he was slower than Daisy so at best he could stand still like a tree and draw the attention of the fire, but should the fire count increase and he was to be continuously attacked, he too would fall.
Even though his attacks were far stronger than Daisy, he acknowledged that he took longer lead time to prepare for his next attack. If Daisy’s attacks improved further, she and Mesquite would make a good sword and shield pair.
As Mesquite split the fires into four to match Daisy’s pace for the training, I noticed the slightly isolated Elder.
Elder must have leveled up too, as he had more gold embroideries on his white robe. It had become much more fancier than the first time I saw it. Which made me wonder if this was what people referred to as illuminating. I forced myself to stop my hand from reaching for the pattern.
“Aren’t you going to train as well?”
“I don’t have good coordination with Mesquite.”
“But! There’s Daisy too.”
“If that kid becomes strong I don’t have to pace it out for her. Then I only need to be concerned about Mesquite.”
What on earth was I saying. I thought we had gotten pretty close but I guess a part of me still held a grudge. Looking at my expression that didn’t seem to be the case.
After some time I finally found out the reason. Fire attracts fire. Even before the four fires could be dealt with new fires appeared.
Mesquite dealt with what Daisy was about to do. He told her to stay calm and break the remaining four fire. Daisy seemed taken back but listened to Mesquite once she saw his determined look.
The small flames broke further into twelves and sparked as though they were fireworks.
Mesquite raised the lens high up to the sky, which caused a downpour of yellow sand from the sky. As Daisy avoided the attacks by circling the parameter all the fires surrounded Mesquite.
Elder’s cane was directed towards Mesquite who stood his ground. The black armor of his seemed unaffected by the flames.
As compared to Daisy who was flying all over the place, Elder was peacefully supporting Mesquite. Unlike the previous battle where lights exploded endlessly, a large light reached Mesquite.
Once the Tanker attracts all the aggro the healer needs only look at the tanker. So this is what it meant.
Daisy seemed to have found peace once she realized the attacks were no longer targeted at her and started to put out the fires one by one. She seemed at ease as compared to earlier on.
“I wish in the future that we only face a few opponents so that we can handle it like now. But I guess it’s impossible that we are fortunate all the time. In the worst cases, we might be surrounded by multiple fires. Fires covered with sand will look at me but for flames that have no sand will attack Daisy or act unpredictably. We must prioritize the attacks and think of how to deal with the flames surrounding me.:
The one fire that remained was covered in sand and flaming out at Mesquite. It was a very small fire and Elder was focusing his healing powers on Mesquite so it had minimal effect. Perhaps the fire was swearing to itself.
Daisy waited for the sand to disappear. The fire that had dusted the sand started to distance itself from Mesquite and disappeared.
I was proud to see this well-structured team.
Everyone! This is my perfect deck! Even though my role is the wallet in this team.
Looking back, I had luck with the random draw and earned a with characteristic. But had the attack type driard been three or the recovery driard been obsolete, what would have happened?
For me, I have the support of Dia so I can afford to have three dryard on the trip, but for Drewid with one driard how would he fight?
Unfortunately, after I left the village I’d never seen another Driard. I wanted to see how the other Dryards fought. I wonder if we can have a party with other Driards?
Perhaps we’d taken too long in one area, there were no fires left. We had been like a bulldozer and wiped out the hunting ground.
For the terrarium, it may be a good thing but from the perspective of the user who was striving to level up, it was unfortunate.
I walked out in search of new prey, but ever since Daisy accomplished the mastery of one kill without splitting up the fire, the prey from that end were gone. That was to say that we no longer had an ideal hunting ground.
I opened the map and asked Elder about our whereabouts and how much more we had to go. When he replied that we weren’t even close and not even ¼ through the sudden gush of fatigue came over me. Mesquite opposed to venturing further.
The further we were from the village the lesser influence we had on the world’s energy and so stronger fires were bound to appear in greater numbers. So it was too early to move on.
In honesty, I wanted to find higher hunting grounds and storm through my level ups but the chances of an unwanted encounter was high…
Even though it was slow-paced perhaps it was best to stay put. But the thought of labour made me lazy.
I was thinking that It would be nice if I had with me an experience buff, and it was when I was fondling with the diamonds in my pocket when it happened.
From far away you could vaguely make out the fire. Mesquite had realized too and was staring at the fire. He seemed to be contemplating on chasing after it or letting it go.
“Fires attract humans, Jay. We are still under the influence of the life tree branch so we can be relieved but those fires outside are smart. They try to mesmerize you to come towards it.
But once you fall for it it is too late. Numerous fires will be waiting there and you would have become bait.
Does that mean fires knew how to outsmart a human? That caused goosebumps. It seemed Mesquite had decided to let the fires go which seemed like a wasted opportunity to me. To me, fires only seemed like experience lumps and nothing else. Wouldn’t it be okay as long as I attracted the fire over to me?
I took out the diamond I had been rolling in my pocket. I already had many of these and thought that the weight and size was appropriate for the task. To throw it at a far distance. Such as stone-throwing.
It seemed there was no one in the team who had the long-distance skill, so I thought we could draw them towards us by throwing something to catch their attention.
If Elder found out he would probably call me crazy. The thought put me down. I relaxed my shoulder and recalled the volleyball king I used to be in my younger days.
I threw the diamond, the sparkling diamond immediately caught Elder’s attention.
“Are you crazy? Why would you throw that?”
As expected Elder started to nag. Of course when I didn’t have any diamonds, what I did could seem crazy, but now I didn’t have anywhere to use them and wanted to splurge like my fellow dwarves.
The diamond drew a parabola before landing far away from the fire. What a shame. Should I throw another? But my shoulder was a little tight from the sudden movement.
Surprisingly the fire responded. It squirmed it’s whole body and made a beeline for the diamond at full speed.
It looked more manic as to how fires had reacted when they found Daisy or Mesquite. The fire seemed more obsessed with the diamond and made my jaw drop. Where would the fire use the diamond anyway?
The fire that had squirmed it’s way over swallowed the diamond. Then…I suspected my eyes. The fire that was as big as a head grew just as it had when it hurt Daisy and grew as big as a backpack.
“What on earth is that? Why is it so big? Did I just feed the fire with a diamond? It’s not a game where you grow pets so why is it growing so big?”
Mesquite’s expression told me how reckless I had been. The same face my instructor had made when I failed to read the instructions manual and acted out of curiosity leading to a result error of 3000%.
