Tfw You Are The System - Chapter 17 Mr And Mrs Nagging
Lan Wei sat down in a secluded corner. He had made sure the doors were locked, and the windows sealed. The room was filled with pitch darkness, even though it was the middle of the day.
Lan Wei groped around until his hands fumbled on the wooden box.
When Lan Wei opened the box, a faint luminescent glow spilled out from within. Lan Wei marveled at the Eight Colour Lotus. This sort of thing, how did Qiao He obtain it? Even if he was rich, you couldn’t just be rich to buy the lotus. You needed connections, and very high connections at that.
What did Han Xue bargain for to make Qiao He give up such a precious item?
Lan Wei brushed away these thoughts. Time was running short, he needed to hurry. Cradling the lotus gently with his hands, Lan Wei closed his eyes. He began to absorb the energy radiating from the lotus, running the energy through his meridians. A cool, refreshing feeling washed over him, like drinking ice water with infused mint.
He sighed in relief. This wasn’t too bad.
He thought too soon.
Everything hurt.
A white-hot burn sliced through his bones, like a thousand cuts on his skin. Lan Wei bit his lips hard, turning them a bloody red. His head pounded and his heartbeat leapt up, thumping hard in his ears.
Whatever happened, he could not scream. That would alert the maids, and they were all spies of Lan Fei.
He shuddered, clutching at his arms in a death grip. His knuckles were bone-white. Nails digging into skin, leaving red marks wherever they gripped.
All he could feel was pain. It was like the poison had suddenly flared up and was attacking back- with a thousand times the force of before.
Black mist came pouring out of him, swirling around him as they tried to attack his body but was thwarted by the light of the lotus.
Slowly, the light of the lotus increased until it overtook the black mist. The mist twisted and writhed until the brightness of the light. Slowly, it started to fade away.
Soon, it dispersed into thin air.
The pain within Lan Wei slowly faded as well, leaving his whole body trembling from the aftereffects. He felt like his whole body cramped up at once. All of his muscles ached. He lied on the floor, staring at the darkness in front of him.
The lotus sat beside him, the glow slowly fading away more and more
He could only think of one word-
[F*ck.]
Honestly? Screw Han Xue, screw his friend Qiao He, screw everything in this world! What the absolute f*ck was that?!
Lan Wei forced himself to stash away the box, with the now useless lotus lying within. He sighed and fell onto his bed, not caring for anything else but sleep.
But before he could fall asleep, he had to inform Jia Xinyue. With another weary sigh, he closed his eyes and entered the space.
His eyes were still closed as he entered. He took a deep breath.
He couldn’t let her know.
Everything was for him to burden alone. At a tender age of 13, Kian was used to carrying everything on his own back. It was enough for Jia Xinyue to search information and manage the quests.
He opened his eyes, and saw Jia Xinyue in the distance. She was lying on the ground, surrounded by screens.
He put on a fake smile on his face and said happily-
“Sis! It worked!”
Jia Xinyue turned her head at the sound of his voice.
“Good!” She replied.
She got up and stretched lightly. Kian moved closer to her, beaming. Luckily, the body inside the space didn’t reflect his body on the outside. There was no pain inside his body.
Otherwise, Kian wasn’t sure how he would’ve even moved, or even smiled.
“How much money do you have left?” Jia Xinyue suddenly asked.
Kian thought for a bit.
He tilted his head and replied, “Haven’t used any of it yet.”
Jia Xinyue nodded excitedly.
“Good. We should start a business. Too bad we can’t be the super fancy main characters who automatically know how to refine elixirs and pills- that would’ve made things so much easier.”
The dry sarcasm in her voice made Kian roll his eyes.
Big Sis, don’t all main characters also work for their knowledge? The only difference is that now that we’re the ones doing it, time seems to slow! Main characters only level up so fast because the author and the readers want them to!
He kept this thought to himself.
“A business?” Kian questioned.
Jia Xinyue started pacing around the space. She called up a couple of screens and started tapping away furiously.
“Yeah.” She said lightly,”It’s one of the fastest and most reliable way right now- we can’t farm or hunt, nor do we have anything to auction off. Both of us can’t make anything.”
She was right though. Kian was only 13 when he died, how much life experience could he actually have?
Kian looked curiously over at what screens Jia Xinyue was typing on.
Jia Xinyue wasn’t typing on anything, or looking cool, or anything of that sort. She was busy playing rhythm games!
Kian pouted, and continued on. He tried to ignore her furious tapping.
“Well my friend and I can-” He began.
Jia Xinyue immediately whipped around. She paused her screen so she could glare at Kian.
“No stealing! It’s fast, but unreliable. You don’t have any plot armor, and who knows when you and that friend of yours is going to get caught.” She said.
Kian didn’t understand. It wasn’t that difficult, plus Han Xue and his friend Qiao He were all quite strong. If need be, they can just carry him through the heist.
His brows furrowed. Jia Xinyue worried too much, constantly going on and on about how nothing ever seemed to work out. She was just like a nagging, worried mother.
The Emperor isn’t worried, but the enochs are worried to death.
“But-” He tried to cut in.
Jia Xinyue glared at him even harder, and her voice raised.
“No buts!”
She stopped pacing around and stared at Kian, who looked back bewilderedly.
She pointed at him and said,
“Not to mention, you need to train for the trial to enter Jiang Academy! We only just got rid of the poison.”
Kian’s brows furrowed and he tapped his foot impatiently against the white floor
“I know-” he said, before being cut off by Jia Xinyue once more.
“We barely have 2 weeks left, how are you going to level up?”
Kian had enough. She just kept on nagging and nagging!
“I KNOW, OKAY?” He yelled.
“YOU’RE NOT THE ONE WHO HAS TO SUFFER, YOU JUST SIT BEHIND A PRETTY SCREEN ALL DAY.” He continued, slightly out of breath from his rant.
Jia Xinyue looked rather surprised, then guilty.
Kian didn’t give her any time to apologise. He turned tail and left straight away.
Once back in his pain riddled body, Lan Wei fell into a dreamless sleep for good.
