The Abandoned Hunter - Chapter 219: No More Tricks
After saying that, Jay started to increase the pace of his attacks while maintaining the 1-meter distance between Arcane and himself.
The attacks were fast and Arcane could barely shield himself from the attacks while using the long sword.
It is said that the blood sword gets bigger, heavier, and stronger as it drinks blood, but that doesn’t mean that it provides no side effects!
As the sword got bigger and heavier, Arcane’s speed started to decrease.
Probably that was why Jay allowed the sword to get some of his blood. It was perceived as a mistake by the others, but it seemed as if it was planned, after all, he was trying to overthrow Arcane with his abnormal speed.
But Arcane wasn’t that weak. His strength was one of his remarkable features so an increase in the weight of the sword was not that much of a burden to him.
It felt like nothing changed for him, of course, the change might have been negligible but it was surely present.
Just that, he failed to feel that change because it was too small.
Though, Jay speeded up which was clearly visible to all.
Thanks to that, he was able to graze Arcane’s body.
A small scratch was left on his body, though, there were no signs of blood dripping out or oozing from it.
Whatever all were shocked just by seeing the fact that Jay was able to leave a mark on Arcane.
“That’s an interesting weapon that you are using…”, Arcane said in a low voice.
So why was everyone shocked after seeing a scratch on Arcane’s body, near the elbow?
The reason was simple, Arcane being the strongest demon in the nether realm had a unique power of regeneration which no other demon-possessed.
Due to that, no matter how many wounds he received, he would be healed instantly. Of course, because of this ability, many called him immortal and thought that this was the sign of immortality, but that was not the case.
It was just another power of the blood overlord – Blood Acceleration.
The effect of this skill was that it would accelerate not only the aging of the blood cells but would also allow new cells to form which would force other cells to multiply rapidly.
This would indirectly lead to a regeneration effect or a healing effect.
Since Arcane was strong enough not to let anyone touch him, hardly any attack would hit him.
That was why, small cuts that he would barely suffer would get instantly healed. Due to this, they thought that he couldn’t be killed.
But now, after seeing that the scratch mark which Jay inflicted on him was still on his body, they understood that he wasn’t immortal nor could he actually heal everything.
Though, before concluding all this, they were completely surprised by what Jay had done.
The ones on Jay’s side, screamed with joy and awe at the top of their voices while the other side just got silent.
Other spectators just kept their mouths shut while they waited for the result to be decided soon enough because all this seemed like needless trouble to them.
The reason why Arcane took an interest in the weapon which Jay was holding was because of this very reason – his healing failed to work due to that weapon.
‘Just what are those?’, he asked himself again and again.
It was probably because one of his cards had been sealed due to the weapon.
Yes, the reason for that was quite simple – the cursed daggers that belonged to the Blood Overlord were something which even he couldn’t control.
Due to that, he hid them since he wanted no shame upon himself – he didn’t want others to know that such a weapon was able to defy immortality.
Of course, he knew not that it only affected him and no one else – in such a matter since it stopped all sorts of healing buffs specifically aiming the heals due to aging of blood cells or similar things.
Whatever, Jay was wielding those daggers at the moment which any apostle of the Blood Overlord knew not about.
The same was for others, no one knew about the existence of such a weapon unless and until they looked at it closely.
The weapons would have a weird symbol on them representing their maker or owners. The Blood Overlord’s weapons had those similar symbols which displayed a drop of blood with shackles.
After seeing that on the daggers, Alon was able to recognize them.
However, no one else got a chance to take a look at them so there was no way that they would recognize it.
Jay rushed towards Arcane with all his might again while trying to increase the speed of his attack, however, Arcane had adjusted to his speed and was able to dodge it skillfully.
‘Tsk, I need more speed…’, and when he thought that, he realized that he was actually at his top speed and couldn’t accelerate anymore.
Not until he used he activated his demon mode, yes, until he activated that, he wouldn’t be able to do anything.
‘Is it really the time for me to use that?’, while he was thinking this, Arcane started to finally push Jay back with just brute strength and nothing else.
“How can any of them be the Dark Overlord?”
“Isn’t he the absolute?”
“One of them should have dominated the other…”
“Are they both fake?”
These were the questions and suspicious which started to rise in everyone’s mind. They doubted what they saw because the fight seemed quite slow-paced.
It was taking longer than what they had initially thought.
If one of them was the Dark Overlord, then the match would have been over even before it had actually started.
This meant that, just at his sight, everyone would be terrified and would start to tremble.
Unfortunately, nothing of that sort happened.
More than that, it was quite weird that the battle was being dragged.
These questions were sometimes said sometimes loudly or were sometimes thought by individuals or masses of the demons that were present there.
The questions could eventually be heard by Jay and Arcane due to which both of them were getting furious as each and every moment passed.
Also, another question was raised which was pretty similar to what the demons had said earlier – “Is one of them just trying to test the other?”
Yes, that seemed to be something to ponder about and many asked each other.
‘Sigh…’
‘I’ve had enough of them…’
‘I don’t belong to this place, to begin with.’
‘Despite that, I’m trying to save them…’
“…”
All the thoughts started to gather around Jay as he started to get serious.
‘I am here just because of the system…’
While that was partially true, it was wrong to blame the system completely.
The system was just a tool that was surely forcing Jay to do some stuff, however, the real mastermind was the one who was controlling the system.
‘Just you wait…’
‘You think that I am your puppet…’
‘But I will show you how wrong you were when you decided to order me.’, Jay’s anger just kept on increasing.
The time left for the completion of the mission was less too.
Jay realized that once the timer reached zero, he will be significantly affected by that.
The consequence of that was great, if his skills would be permanently banned or were to disappear, then he would grow weaker.
If his stats were to decrease, he would feel much weaker than ever and at a moment where he couldn’t spare a glance at anything or anyone, such a decrease would end up taking his life.
Not that he couldn’t survive after getting killed once, but the fact that he would lose one lifeline which could prove to be of great help sometime later!
‘No…’
‘I’ve really had enough of this!’
“…”
He finally decided what he had to do. Now there was nothing more that he wanted from the duel other than surviving and getting back to earth.
He thought that it was time to unleash everything he had in store due to which he jumped back and stepped away from Arcane.
Arcane, who thought that Jay would close the gap and charge, was shocked because of this decision.
“Hear me out Arcane!”
“I’m tired of this…”
“Why don’t we really go all out now?”
“…”
To be continued…
