The Adventures Of Kagami - Chapter 2 Atsuko

It is cold, water starts to go through the wood box. What can I do? Let is start crying maybe someone can hear me.

I don’t even have energy to cry! Well what did I expected from a one day child body. This is maybe the end of my second life, Stupid parents it is not like it will take so much effort to wait a year or two before getting rid of me. It is cold! I miss my room! My mother! It is cold mother! It is painful the same feeling again! Someone help me please! It is getting colder

Am I dead? Is this heaven! I feel warm. I opened my eyes and it is bright. Fuck! I am so hungry! The next moment a woman comes beside me and starts to feed me warm milk. Thank god! I will live to see tomorrow. Looking at the woman, she was huge with a muscle body. She looks like she is in her thirties or forties. Her skin was dark, short brown hair and brown eyes. She also had many scares over her face. Anyway, who cares since she will take care of me, she is the one who deserve to be called “mom” in this world.

“Finally! I can relax! Captain see you in two days!”

“Ok! Enjoy yourself Atsuko!”

“Hhhh! of course I will enjoy myself!”

My name is Atsuko, I am 37 years old. Since I am a person who has awakened her talent and become a warrior, I was sent to many battlefields and got many scares over my body and when the war ended, no one wanted to marry me. Also coming from a poor family in the Funai clan and with the death of my parents, I was thrown away like trash. So, I choose to be a part of the Nameless clan at least I can live in peace here. Well my job was to guard the second gate of the village, I work five days a week. Although I am a guard but trust me nothing is dangerous in this job. It is true life here is not like life in the other clans but at least i am not afraid of war.

At night when I was going back home from the blacksmith, I found a box in front of my house, opening the box I found a small child. I guess his age don’t exceed a weak. I didn’t know what to do to cry or to laugh because I really wanted a child but this is so sadden. I took the child inside and after warming some milk I fed him. Thank god! Even though it is cold outside he didn’t die. Thank god! I made it on time! He is so cute! I don’t know why but I feel so happy. I want to cry Aaaa! (Crying from Happiness) am I a mother now! He is moving his eyes! He is smiling! Aaaa!

“Don’t worry kid, I will take care of you from now on!”

He is smiling again it is like he can understand me! But what about my job! Can I work and take care of him at the same time? What if he starts crying when I am not here! What if something happens to him! Anyway I will think about it tomorrow. Before that yes! A name I have to give him a name I found it. I hope he like it.

“Kiddo from today your name is Kagami!”

Today, I wake up late too, because it is my day off but I feel like there is something missing Yes! Kagami. I totally forget! I need to check him!

“Kagami! I will warm some milk and feed you now! Sorry your mother is not a responsible person but I will change for you so don’t think about it!”

What it is this smell? Yes! I need to change for him, I don’t have any diapers! I will use this piece of old clothe for now, after that I will pay a visit to old man Riku store. Is it alright to leave him alone? Well I feel like he can understand me even though he is just a baby.

“Kagami I am going out to buy something I will be back quickly!”

Hhhh Others will think I am crazy speaking to a babe and leaving him alone. Anyway he is my kid, I will do it my way.

“Old man! I need some diapers!”

“Diapers? Oh, Hi Atsuko. How are you? Enjoying your holiday!” said an old man in his sixties

“It doesn’t concern you old man! Give me a pack of diapers! I need to hurry!”

“Ok! Ok! Easy girl but why do you need diapers?”

Nice! He is sleeping. Well I need to find someone to take care of him when I am working of course why I didn’t think of her, I will ask Stella. She is an old lady living a couple of blocks away from me. She was working with Old man Riku but now she retired. Let is change his diaper first.

“I will be back Kagami!”

“Big sister Atsuko! How can I help you?”

“Hi Mia! Is your grandmother home?”

“Yes! Come in she is inside.”

Stella house is not a small house like mine, she has five rooms and even a garden. Well she saved money for 30 years to buy it. Should I buy one? I have my saving! I will think about it later. Walking in the second room in the first floor, I saw Stella an old lady with green eyes. Her son died from illness leaving her alone with his wife who works in a restaurant and his daughter Mia.

“Atsuko! How are you?”

“I am fine!”

“Well what brings you here today?”

“Well (I told her how I found Kagami and I need her to take care of him when I am working)”

“Mmm well I don’t have much to do, so how much you will be giving me each month?”

Well I was waiting for her question. In this clan no body do things for free.

“I can give you 2 PG (Pieces of gold) a month”

“Not bad ok! Starting tomorrow I will be taking care of him, from 7am when you go to work until 6 pm when you comeback. Well don’t forget to provide milk and diapers!”

“I know Stella don’t think about it! See you tomorrow!”

When I was going out I spout out Mia looking at me with curiosity. She probably wants to know what we were talking about.

“Mia! Starting tomorrow you will be having a little brother.”

“REALLY! I will be a big sister! But whose child is he”

“It is mine”

“But when did you get pregnant! I always hung out with you and I didn’t see your belly gets bigger!”

“Hhhh some kids come from nowhere, ask your grandmother she will explain.”

Leaving Stella house I walked back home.

Even though I passed the rest of the day at home, I didn’t hear this child cry even once. This is hard how am I supposed to know if he is hungry or needs to change his diaper. Looking at him I can see his dark eyes moving from right to left like a cruise animal scanning his environment wanting to know everything. I can’t wait to see him grow into a young man. Picking him up with my arms I felt like crying, this situation that I always dreamed of is finally a reality, I am a mother! Looking into his eyes, I said:

“Don’t worry kiddo, your mother is here and she will make sure that you will be safe! Even if all the world is against you I will be with you! Protecting you and supporting you!”
