The Almighty Tyrant - Chapter 70 Illusion Resistance
Shi clan, outside the Shi Trial Tower.
Whoosh!
All of a sudden, one of the ten members that entered the tower appeared just a few meters away about two hours later. Even though they were waiting for the results of all the clan members, Shi Xingwan and Senior Yan were still eager to find out the experiences of the clan members, which prompted them to run towards the clan member.
Even though this tower was here even before Shi Xingwan was born, it was still filled with mysteries so every experience they could get would help the future members once they enter the tower.
…
The clan member, whose name was Shi Yifei, appeared outside the tower after failing to defeat the third clone of the test. He was defeated by a sneak attack from the back, if he could notice it in time, then he wouldn’t be here. Even though it could have happened, this was his reality, so he had no choice but to sigh.
Out of nowhere, Shi Yifei heard hurried footsteps from a direction, prompting him to turn his head around. This gave him a big shock though because the footsteps came from Shi Xingwan and Senior Yan.
“P-P-Patriarch and L-L-Logistics Hall Elder…nice to m-meet you…” Shi Yifei said through clattering teeth as his body slightly shivered. It was rare for a clan member to meet the patriarch himself up front so his actions were understandable.
“Hello there Yifei,” Shi Xingwan lightly smiled. Being the patriarch, he had to memorize all of the names of the clan members just in case he had to call them. “I was just wondering if you could tell us your experience in the tower.”
“Oh?” Shi Yifei didn’t expect that question. “I-If that’s the case, then I can say I didn’t experience t-that much.”
“How can you say so? Didn’t you pass the first test?” Shi Xingwan asked as normally it would only take an hour or so to clear the first test.
Shi Yifei disappointedly shook his head. “I didn’t pass the first test at all. It seems that the rules were changed on the first test, with each clone being one stage stronger than the previous.”
Shi Xingwan and Senior Yan both raised the eyebrows in surprise. From the experience they’ve gathered from the previous participants, the strength of the clone would only increase by one stage after every two clones.
“Why were the rules changed? Is it because we allowed two Organ Tempering cultivators to enter?” Shi Xingwan hypothesized. Most of the time, the strongest member they’d let entry to the tower were Peak Bone Tempering cultivators, so it could be that.
Out of nowhere, a thought entered Shi Xingwan’s mind.
‘I wonder if Shi Li passed the first test.’
…
Shi clan, inside the Shi Trial Tower.
Shi Li was currently in a state of unconsciousness…well not exactly. His body and brain have ceased to function because of the intense wave of mental energy that entered his body all of a sudden. As for his soul…
It was currently fighting against the wave of mental energy.
…
Shi Li’s soul was currently trapped in a mental energy illusion of sorts, which quite confused him. Even though he has read some of these situations happening in the novels of his previous life, he was still surprised that it would eventually happen to him.
His surroundings were filled with flames and skulls, something you’d expect from a typical nightmare realm. But there was a little bit of something included.
“Ah! Save me!”
“Don’t! Not my son!”
He was being bombarded with pleas of mercy.
Even though there was no one around, he could hear these pleas like they were being shouted just a few meters away from his ear. Not only that, he could feel a ghastly aura from the voices themselves.
All of a sudden, his head started to ache as an influx of information from all around him started to enter his soul.
The lives of people, their death, their emotions, their despair, all of this was being shoved into his soul.
“Gah!” Shi Li couldn’t help but shout out.
He knew that this was the second test of the tower and knew that this was also an illusion, but he didn’t know how to get out.
“Escape!”
“Be gone!”
“Exit!”
He tried to think of words that were related to escape, because it might be the way to exit this unending illusion.
After a while, he got tired of shouting, forcing him to just endure the bombardment of information.
Gradually, Shi Li’s soul was entering a new state where his soul wasn’t affected by the illusion at all. It only lasted for a short while, but that was enough for…
Ding!
A notification screen to pop up.
“Hmm?” Shi Li was surprised to see that the interface was working even though his brain was shut down. ‘Does this mean that this interface is intrinsically connected to my soul?’
‘Bah, let’s save that for later. For now, let me check what popped up.’
~~~~~~~~
Congratulations to User for acquiring the passive skill:
[Basic Illusion Resistance]
~~~~~~~~
“Identify,” Shi Li muttered.
~~~~~~~~
[Basic Illusion Resistance]
‘A skill given to those gifted in the mind. With enough mental energy, one can differentiate between illusion and reality, thus allowing the person to exit illusions faster compared to normal people.’
~~~~~~~~
‘Gifted in the mind? Is this related to my mental energy?’ Shi Li thought. Even though his mental energy capacity grew by 50% every time he reached a new stage, he thought that it would be the same for others. But with the skill, he probably thought that wasn’t the case.
After closing the screen, his surroundings started to become translucent, allowing him to barely see a dark brick ceiling, which presumably comes from the tower’s hall.
Shi Li couldn’t help but grin as he noticed this. With the interface active even in his current state, he asked with a smile, “What price do I have to pay to break this illusion?”
Ding!
Being reliable, the interface answered within moments.
~~~~~~~~
Price needed to pay: 100% of User’s mental energy
Item in exchange: Destruction of the illusion
Would User like to trade?
~~~~~~~~
“Of course!” Shi Li answered.
After a while…
Crack.
The surroundings became more transparent as cracks could be seen spreading throughout. In just seconds, the cracks were spread all over the illusionary realm, making the realm explode into countless fragments.
This also allowed Shi Li to come back to reality.
After seeing that the external mental energy was gone, Shi Li’s brain slowly started to function normally once more, allowing Shi Li to stand upright after a few minutes.
…
Shi clan, in an unknown space within the Shi Trial Tower.
Since the being saw Shi Li’s history and current prowess, it was shocked to see that Shi Li was able to wake up within twenty minutes!
The ratio of time between reality and illusions was 1:10, so that meant Shi Li spent over 3 hours in the illusion before he could break out. Even though it was a long time, it was still faster compared to the other clan members taking the second test.
The being couldn’t help but laugh as its eyes glowed a light blue around its crimson red irises.
“Illusion resistance huh… kekeke, it seems that you’re truly the one that’ll connect this clan back to where it was…”
