The Alpha’s Companion - Chapter 78
Lacey tried to sleep but couldn’t get comfortable. Her lower right side was hurting most of the night. But one good thing was that she was finally feeling more like herself. She was no longer afraid to go to sleep, afraid that someone may come to the door and drag her away. Whatever Dr. Silva put into her IV to counteract and remove the drugs from her system must have been working.
After a while, Lacey finally fell asleep.
Lacey walked into a clearing that she didn’t recognize, and Scar, Brock, and Rex were there.
Rex looked across the field and smirked. “You’re coming with me.”
“No, I’m not! Get away from me!” She tried to morph into her wolf, but nothing happened. Panic set in, and when she turned to run, she ran right into Thorn, laughing.
“Oh, yes. You do.” A broad grin spread across Thorn’s face. “I’ll teach you for being born! Your mother should have never had the affair and should have never had you! Now I’m giving you to Rex.”
“No!” Lacey yelled, backing away as Thorn advanced. “You already sold me to Julien!”
Everyone in the clearing burst out laughing.
“Do you really think he still wants you?” Rex asked, advancing on her. “He wants a child and you can’t even seem to do that right.” A sinister smile spread across his face. “But don’t worry. After I kill Julien, I’ll take you as my Alpha Queen and you’ll give me lots of children.” Then he shrugged. “If not, there’s plenty of other women willing to do the job.” Then his face curled into a something demonic, evil. “I will have lots of children, whether or not you give them to me.”
“No!” Lacey ran, but the others were faster.
“Lacey?” The voice was that of a young shifter… one that she hadn’t heard for a while… one she would never forget.
“Tima?” Lacey asked, turning around.
Rex was holding him in his clutches, just as young as he had been when she was training him at The Silver Pack. “You either come with me now, or I’ll kill him.”
“No! Leave him alone!” Lacey yelled.
Rex looked over at Thorn and nodded.
Thorn stepped forward. “Oh? Didn’t I tell you?” He shrugged and then his smile faded, contorting into something wicked. “I gave Tima to him.”
“No! Let him go!” Lacey yelled. “No! Don’t do it!”
Strong arms wrapped around her. “Lacey! Wake up! You’re having another nightmare!”
When Lacey opened her eyes, Julien had her in a vise grip and she felt cold… so cold….
“My god, Lacey!” Julien placed his hand on her forehead and then her face. “You’re burning up.”
“Ooooww!!!” she yelled, doubling over in pain. “My right side… Julien! It’s killing me!”
He jumped quickly out of bed. “I’ll be right back. I’m going to get Dr. Silva.”
Suddenly, there was a knock on the door. “Is everything okay in there?” Dr. Silva asked, not waiting for Julien to answer.
“Come in!” Julien pulled the door open with such force that it hit the wall. “She was having a nightmare. When she woke, she was burning up and in pain.”
“Aaahhh!!” Lacey yelled, doubling over in pain. She bit her lower lip to keep from screaming, not wanting Julien to worry.
The doctor took one look at her and yelled, “Call an ambulance! There’s no time to waste. We have to get her to a hospital now… before her appendix bursts.”
Julien nodded and then quickly grabbed his phone. “I’m calling them now.”
While Julien was on the phone and getting ready to go, the doctor placed his hand on Lacey’s forehead. “How long have you been in this much pain?” He quickly, but carefully, laid the IV bag on her chest and Lacey held it.
“I’ve been hurting for a while, but not this badly. But I have a high tolerance for pain,” Lacey said, bending over as another pain grabbed her with more ferocity that before. “I woke up like this.” Suddenly, there was a knock on the door and Dr. Silva wrapped the quilt and sheet around her, and then lifted her with ease, obviously a shifter, and carried her into the living room.
Someone knocked on the door. “EMTs!”
Julien beat Dr. Silva to the front door and flung it open, two men and a woman walked in wheeling a stretcher.
Dr. Silva laid her on the stretcher, and they went to work right away.
“Yeow!” Lacey yelled, trying not to scream from the intense pain, but it was nearly impossible. “Julien!”
“I’m right here, Lacey!” He ran up to her side, sliding on a coat, mainly a prop for the humans, since shifters didn’t get that cold… unless they had a fever.
“Walk out with her and I’ll be right there,” Dr. Silva said. “I’m just going back for my medical bag!”
“Don’t worry, miss, we’ll take good care of you,” one of the EMTs said, his voice deep, reminding her a little of Rex. But she quickly pushed the thought aside. She needed help now and she wasn’t going to be afraid that Rex or anyone else was going to attack her when she was down. “We’ll have you to the hospital in no time.”
A female EMT looked up at Julien. “Is there an elevator?”
He shook his head. “No. But Dr. Silva and I can carry the stretcher down. It won’t take long.”
“Actually, we can’t let you do that. According to regulations—”
With that, Julien waited for no other explanation. He handed Lacey the IV bag to hold, and then scooped her up into his arms and walked quicker than human speed, carrying her down the stairs.
“But sir—” the female EMT yelled behind him.
He already had her on the first floor when Dr. Silva and Brogan cam right behind him, carrying the stretcher.
“How did you do that so quickly?” the other male EMT asked.
Brogan smirked. “We work out.”
“Bring it outside,” Julien ordered, already carrying her out, not waiting for a response from the EMTs.
Within the matter of minutes, Lacey was loaded into the ambulance.
Julien jumped in behind her and then yelled to Brogan, “You’re my Beta now! Protect the pack until I get back.”
“Aye!” Brogan replied. “Don’t worry about a thing.”
Julien nodded once just as the doors closed on the ambulance.
Lacey bit her lower lip, nearly delirious from the pain and the fever. But she reached over and gave Julien’s hand a gentle squeeze. “Julien, I love you….”
“Don’t you do that!” he yelled, trying to stay out of the way of the paramedics, letting them do their job. “Don’t you dare say your goodbyes to me!”
Suddenly, the sirens of the ambulance blared, and they were moving quickly down the road, speeding away from the castle. Lacey just hoped that she didn’t have to leave Julien. But she never would…. by choice.
