The Alpha’s Companion - Chapter 80
Lacey’s eyes flew open and she was staring into Scar’s. Lacey tried to scream, but Scar held a knife to her throat.
“Scream, and I’ll kill you and Julien, too,” Scar said.
Rage filled Lacey’s chest as she quickly assessed her surroundings. There was a huge picture window close by, and the IV was still in her arm, but Lacey could easily pull it out. She glanced over at the small sofa in the corner and Julien was gone. He had probably stepped out to get something to eat. But that was okay. Lacey smiled. She wanted Scar to herself.
It was payback time.
Lacey nodded once and Scar removed her hand, but still held the knife to her throat. “I thought it was time we had a little chat… woman to woman.”
“Too bad you aren’t one.” Keeping as still as she could so as not to attract Scar’s notice, Lacey started pulling the IV from her hand. Once she was free, Scarlett was hers. The longer she could keep Scarlett talking so she could work it out of her arm, the better. “You’re not a good woman, anyway. A good woman wouldn’t have sold out her pack like that.”
Scar scoffed. “The Harvest Moon Pack hasn’t been my pack for a long time.”
“Good to know.” Lacey inched the IV a little farther out of her arm, keeping a good Poker face, even though the process hurt more than if she could have just ripped it out. Lacey smirked, showing Scar no fear. “So. I take it that The Wildclaws are yours?”
She shrugged. “Mine and Rex’s.”
“One thing I’d like to know is how long you’ve been with Rex.” Lacey shrugged. “It seems to me that you’ve been playing both ends against the middle for a while now.” Lacey pulled the needle completely out as dampness pooled on her arm, probably blood.
Scar laughed. “Well, it was good while it lasted. Now, I have who I really want, Rex.”
Lacey laughed, and Scar shoved the knife harder to her throat. But Lacey was undeterred. “Rex is nothing special! You can have him.”
“Sshsh!!” Scar said in a low voice. “Unless you want to die.”
Lacey smiled. “I can’t wait to see you on the field of battle.”
Scar’s mouth snarled. “You can’t handle what’s coming.”
Lacey shrugged. “Well….” She shrugged. “There’s one thing you should know.”
“And what’s that?” Although Scar was a fool to do this with Julien in the hospital, Lacey was glad for the opportunity to confront her alone. For Scarlett to come here was stupid, stupid, stupid.
Lacey’s eyes suddenly turned serious. Time was up. The moment she had been waiting for had arrived. “You never had Julien in the first place.” Then she grabbed Scar’s hand holding the knife and pulled it back, then hit it against her leg several times until Scar dropped it. Even in her weakened state, Lacey had enough adrenaline coursing through her veins for this.
Lacey twisted Scar’s hand back, nearly breaking her wrist, and then threw her back, knocking over a cart, causing her to fall to the floor. Then Lacey picked up the knife and slowly stood, taking small steps, headed right for Scarlett.
Scarlett laughed. “And what do you think you’re going to do with that?” Scar yelled, surprise coloring her eyes.
“What I can.” Lacey growled, feeling like a zombie as she slowly stalked toward her prey. “If I had enough strength right now, I’d throw you out the window… just like Raye.” Lacey took another step closer, careful to block Scar’s only exit. If Lacey had anything to say about it, Scar wasn’t getting away this time.
Scar’s lips contorted into a snarl. “He was a good man and you killed him!”
Lacey took another step closer, gripping the knife, as moisture pooled from her side. She had opened her wound, but she didn’t care. “Then you shouldn’t have come after me, and you shouldn’t have come after my pack.”
Scar smirked. “You aren’t strong enough for what’s coming… let alone lead a pack.”
Lacey tilted her head to the side. “And neither are you.” Then Lacey leaned forward, smiling. “But Scar, I could beat you even on my worst day.”
All of a sudden, Scar leapt toward her, her fingers like claws, but Lacey stabbed her in the stomach. Scar landed a good punch on Lacey’s jaw, but Lacey stood, still gripping the hard, wooden handle of the bloody knife, waiting for another attack.
“What’s going on in here?” Lacey looked over and a nurse stood in the doorway.
“Leave! Now! And call security!” Lacey yelled. “This woman tried to kill me!”
The woman’s eyes darted back and forth between them and then Scar leapt for the door, easily pushing the human woman down, and darted out.
Lacey stalked toward the door, just when Julien ran up from the other side. “Lacey!”
“Scar!” Lacey yelled, pointing down the hallway. “She tried to kill me, but I stabbed her. She’s wounded.”
“She won’t get far,” Julien yelled, heading toward her.
Lacey looked down and she had pulled her staples loose and was bleeding from her side, and blood trickled down her arm where the IV was. Then Lacey noticed that she was still holding the knife, bloody from having stabbed Scarlett.
But Lacey hoped that Scarlett escaped, wanting another chance to finish the job. No one messes with her pack or her family.. And now, The Harvest Moon Pack was both.
