The Alpha’s Companion - Chapter 86
Within a few days, Lacey woke feeling much better than she had in days—maybe even weeks—and the wound from her appendectomy was nearly healed. Thank goodness, shifters heal quickly.
“How are you feeling?” Julien asked, stretched out on the bed, bare chested, with one arm behind his head, looking as sexy as ever.
One corner of her lips curled into a smile. “Much better now. Thank you.” She pulled some clothes out of the closet and started getting dressed. “I was thinking that I’d start training with the warriors again today.”
“Well….” Julien sat up, his black hair falling over his shoulders, looking like an ad out of a men’s magazine. “I had another idea.”
Lacey laughed. “I don’t think I’m heal up enough for that yet.” She kissed the tip of his nose. “Maybe tomorrow.”
Julien smirked. “Although I’m always up for that….” He took her hand and pulled her onto the bed, flipping her over, his arms forming a protective cage around her. “That’s not what I was thinking.”
She laughed, laying on the bed as she looked up at him, wishing she could do more. “What were you thinking, then?”
He smiled, obviously enjoying having her in this position a bit too much. “I was thinking that we’d visit the Shadow Pack today… see how your mother’s getting along.” He smiled, tilting his head to the side. “You’d also be able to see your father and your brothers.”
Lacey nodded, her eyes filled with concern. “I’d love to, but what about the castle? What if The Wildclaws attack while we’re gone?”
Julien sighed, sitting up. “I’ve been thinking about that, too. We’ve been waiting for them to attack, and I’m tired of it… tired of being a prisoner in my own home… unable to leave.” He turned to face her, and Lacey sat up. “If they don’t attack soon, I think we should launch an attack on them.”
A crease formed between her eyes. “But where would we attack? They don’t have a compound.”
Julien bit his upper lip and then released it. “I hate to say this, but the home base they are using right now is The Silver Pack Compound.”
“Absolutely not.” Lacey sighed, rising from the bed. “Even though they’ve done a lot against me, I would hate to attack The Silver Pack. But then again, they aided and abetted the Wildclaws.”
“Precisely,” Julien agreed, slipping into a white dress shirt. “And if you aid and abet the enemy, you’re setting yourself up for an attack, too.”
Lacey shook her head as she slipped into a dressier outfit. If they were going to the Shadow Pack, she wanted to look decent. “Julien, I just hate to see a whole pack decimated just because of the decisions of a few.”
Julien tilted his head to the side. “But they made that choice to stay. Like your friends from The Silver Pack who left with your mother, others could leave, too. It’s their choice. You always have a choice.”
Lacey nodded. “Julien, before we go, there’s something I need to tell you.”
Julien stopped, tucked in his dress shirt tail, and then sat on the edge of the bed and slipped on his dress boots. “What’s that?”
Lacey sighed. “Wyatt, the other guy that left The Silver Pack, was my ex-boyfriend before he met and married Calla.”
Julien looked down, thinking, and then looked back up. “Do you still have feelings for him?” Lacey was surprised that he was remaining so calm. Julien had changed a lot since she first met him. Maybe it was that he was finally sure of their relationship.
Lacey quickly shook her head. “No.” Then she stood between Julien’s legs and laced her fingers in the side of his long hair. “Since I met you, I’ve forgotten all men but you. You’re my Mate, my one and only, my Alpha.”
Julien nodded as he wrapped his arms around her waist and looked up into her eyes. “Will it bother you to see him again?”
Lacey shook her head. “No, not at all.”
“So, is that why you didn’t let him or his mate to stay here?”
Lacey sighed. “Although I don’t have deep feelings for him anymore, I don’t want to see him every day, either. And I didn’t think that you did either. Also, after what I’ve been through, I’m finding it hard to trust any outsider. I couldn’t take the chance that he had ulterior motives for out pack.”
Julien nodded, looking up into her eyes. “Do you think he still has feelings for you?”
Lacey scoffed. “No. He performed the Mating Ceremony with his wife shortly after they married. When he met Calla, it was all over between us.” Lacey sighed. “I care about him and think of him as a friend, but nothing more.”
Julien nodded. “Okay. that’s all I wanted to hear.” Then he swept her into his arms and dipped her across the bed and his lips descended upon hers in a kissed filled with passion, a kiss to last the years. A kiss to convey the love she had for him.
“Julien, there’s only you,” she breathed against his lips. “There’s only been you.”
He returned her passion, but pulled back a moment later, breathless and ran his fingers through his hair, taking another breath to clear his head. Then he raised an eyebrow and gave her a sexy smile. “Woman, when you’re ready to have me, I’ll show you everything I feel.”
Lacey smirked. “I’m looking forward to it.”
She just hoped that going to The Shadow Pack didn’t ruin anything between her and Julien.. Not that she didn’t trust herself with Wyatt, she just hoped that the past didn’t come back to bite her.
