The Alpha’s Companion - Chapter 91
Lacey stormed up the stairs, unable to believe that Julien had betrayed her like that. Here she had specifically asked him not to say anything to Wyatt, but he went behind her back and did it anyway. When she reached their suite, she walked in and slammed the door behind her, but Julien caught it as he walked in behind her.
Lacey rolled her eyes, folding her arms across her chest.
“Lacey, I—”
“How could you?” she demanded, flailing her arms. “I specifically asked you not to say anything to him… that I could handle it! But you went behind my back and did it anyway! Why?”
“Because I love you,” Julien calmly replied.
“Julien, I can’t believe you!” She crossed the room to the big picture window. “I can handle myself.”
Julien placed his hands on Lacey’s shoulders but she shrugged away. “Lacey, I just want to protect you… to keep you safe.”
“I don’t need protecting!” But she knew it was a lie as soon as she said it. After all, she had been kidnapped… right from their suite in the castle.
Julien sighed behind her. “Lacey, I know you can protect yourself, but hear me out.” He turned her around to face him. “Sometimes, a woman can tell a man know until she’s blue in the face to leave her alone, and he won’t listen. But if a man tells another man to leave his wife alone, he’ll listen the first time.”
“So, it’s a male chauvinist thing.”
“Basically.” Julien shrugged, looking into her eyes. “Lacey, I know you can protect yourself. But let me protect you, too. You’re now the Alpha Queen, and as such, will be a target. You may not always be able to protect yourself. So, let me do my duty as your husband… and your Alpha.”
Lacey nodded, understanding. “So, what did you say to him?”
“Let’s just say that he won’t bother you again.”
Lacey bit her lower lip, narrowing her eyes. “Your jealousy will be your undoing.”
Julien’s eyes hardened. “And your stubbornness will be yours.”
Lacey turned her attention toward the window again. “Good night.”
But he wrapped his arms around her from behind. “Lacey, let’s not go to bed angry.” Then he moved her hair aside and kissed the tender skin of her neck, sending chills over her body. “Please… come to bed.”
His voice was so seductive that she couldn’t resist. But despite her anger, she loved him. Everything else, they would work out.

Suddenly, Julien’s phone rang in the middle of the night, waking them both. They hadn’t been to sleep that long, and it took a moment for Lacey to focus.
Julien answered it on the second ring, suddenly alert. “Yes?”
There was a loud voice at the other end that sounded urgent, and Lacey recognized that it was Brogan at The Harvest Moon Pack.
“We’re on our way,” Julien said, quickly clicking off. “The castle is under attack. Let’s go.”
Lacey jumped out of bed and slipped into a cropped T-shirt and shorts. Lacey wouldn’t need anything more. She wouldn’t be in these clothes for long. “Let’s go.”
Julien had slipped into a T-shirt and shorts, too, and together they headed down the hallway.
“I’ll tell Arkin! You go sound the alarm!” Julien yelled, already headed down the hallway toward Arkin’s suite.
Lacey ran down the stairs and a man was on guard in the foyer. “Quick! Where’s the alarm?”
“It’s in here!” he yelled, running into a room.
Lacey pulled the alarm and a loud, deafening sound resonated throughout the compound. Shifters started running frantically to their stations. Lacey hopped up the stairs and stopped halfway up on the stairs. “The Harvest Moon Pack is under attack from the Wildclaws! We have to go now!”
She looked out over the crowd now assembled in the foyer, and Wyatt and Calla was there. Wyatt’s eyes met Lacey’s and he nodded once in silent acknowledgement, not only for the pending attack, but also as a silent promise to respect her as the Alpha Queen and to leave her alone.
Then Tima came running in and her heart leapt, happy to see him. She had no idea where he had been hiding, but the reunion would have to wait.
Arkin suddenly ran down the stairs and stopped beside her. “Team A, you stay here and guard the compound! All the other teams are with me!” Then he ran down the stairs and out the door, followed by the rest of The Silver Moon Pack.
Julien ran down the stairs. “Ready.”
Lacey nodded. “Let’s go.”
Together, they ran down the stairs and out the door. Outside, teams of shifters ran behind their Alpha leaping into mid-air and shifting, landing in their wolf forms. An army was headed toward The Harvest Moon Pack, an awesome sight to behold. It was a good thing they were on their side.
As Lacey ran outside beside her Mate, shimmers ran down her spine and throughout her limbs, as the red haze with black edges overtook her vision. Then she leapt into the air at just the right time, shredding her clothes as she morphed into her wolf. Lacey landed on four white paws as her huge, white Alpha ran by her side. As she ran, images of Koi, Brogan, Misty, and other members of The Harvest Moon Pack ran through her mind, now fighting for their lives. Lacey poured on the speed, dinning into the lichen as she pushed herself harder, faster.. She just hoped that they weren’t too late.
