The Alpha’s Companion - Chapter 94
Rex paced like a caged animal, ready to strike. At first, Julien wished he could talk to Rex in their wolf forms. But they couldn’t, since they were no longer from the same pack. But it was just as well. Long ago, they had already everything that needed to be said. And it had done no good. This fight was inevitable and a long time coming.
Julien waited for Rex to make the first move. But he had gone through too much, sacrificed too much to lose to Rex. He wanted everything… power, money, his pack… even his wife. And Lacey was the one thing that Julien would never give up. The war was won and the Wildclaws and The Silver Pack subdued, but this battle was far from over. Julien knew that a war had been raging in Rex for a long time and wouldn’t be quelled.
Suddenly, Rex jumped at Julien, but he ducked, flipping him over his back. He landed hard on the cold stairs, crumbling under his weight.
Julien stepped on his throat, holding him down, hesitating. Julien didn’t want to have to kill Rex… his brother, but he was leaving him no choice.
Suddenly, Rex twisted out from under his grasp and bit Julien’s neck, taking out a chunk of fur.
A low grumble resounded throughout The Harvest Moon Pack as many took a step forward to come to the aid of their Alpha.
“Do nothing!” Julien ordered and everyone stopped, taking a step back. Searing pain ran through Julien’s body and blood gushed from the wound. Julien leapt for Rex, but he flipped him over. This time, Julien grabbed a chunk of his fur on the back of his head and pulled him back with him. Then Julien flipped him over and bit off his ear as Rex howled in pain. Julien paced, lowering his head, eyeing him with vengeance as he spit out his ear.
Rex shook out his fur, blood running down the side of his head, his eyes filled with rage.
Then Julien narrowed his eyes as his lips curled into a snarl.
“Gggooowwll!!!” Rex charged and Julien bit his leg. Rex let out another deafening howl.
The wolves that were watching growled their approval.
Julien paced in front of him, baring his teeth, a low, guttural growl resonated from deep within his chest, waiting. Julien didn’t want to have to do this. But at this moment, he had no choice.
Rex smirked, and then eyed Lacey… and Julien saw his resolve. In an instant, he ran toward her, but Julien quickly, pushed her out of the way and slammed Rex’s head into the slab.
It was one thing to threaten him, but it was quite another to threaten his Mate. Julien paced in front of Lacey in protection.
Looking around at the pack, Julien knew he had to end it quickly. “Harvest Moon Pack, follow the Alpha Queen inside!”
“Julien, no!” Lacey yelled.
“Leave us… now!” Julien commanded.
The pack gave them a wide berth and headed inside, leaving just the two wolves to battle it out alone.
Julien jumped on his throat, pinning him to the ground in an effort to get him to submit, but Rex pushed him off and stood, unwilling.
Julien was then resigned to what he knew he had to do.
Julien lunged, pinning Rex to the ground in one swoop. Then he bit his neck and ripped out his throat, as blood poured over the ground. Rex’s limp body immediately morphed and changed back into his human form, his eyes wide with shock.
As the adrenaline rush left him, Julien felt his strength drain from his body as he morphed and changed, letting the red haze with black edges overtake his vision as he pulled himself back together into his human form. Standing naked on the landing outside the shattered glass double doors alone, Julien looked out over the grounds, assessing the damage. Bodies lay scattered over the grounds, not only of the Wildclaws and The Silver Pack, but bodies of The Harvest Moon Pack, too. Bodies of his friends. His family. Yes, they had won the war, but at what cost?
Julien sank onto the ground beside the remains of his brother as tears flowed down his cheeks. How had it come to this? It couldn’t continue.. And as the Alpha of all Alphas, it was up to Julien to ensure that this never happened again… one way or another.
