The Alpha’s Prisoner - Chapter 12
Violet followed Jack through the hallways, turning here and there, until they reached his office.
It was a very large and well organized room, which impressed Violet. He seemed to be a very responsible man and a neat Alpha.
As she passed the door, she heard a click that she knew it came from the key.
He had locked them up.
She looked back surprised, since she didn’t imagine such measure was necessary. He said no one was going to disturb them.
“Don’t worry, I’m not gonna do anything to you.” he said stopping in front of her. “As much as I wanted to..”
Jack continued to walk again, leaving Violet a bit disconcerted.
“But I need to make sure you won’t do anything stupid, like trying to run away again. We need to get to an agreement, remember? So forgive me for not trusting you. I’m sure you know the feeling.” he said stopping behind a chair, and only then Violet realized that there was a whole feast prepared for them.
He did all that for her?
There were all types of food on the table and Violet heard her stomach roar.
It wasn’t like she hadn’t been eating. Now that she thought about it, they actually fed her really well as a prisoner.
But seeing all that food made her remember how good it was to have a nice meal.
Jack pulled the chair for her to sit, and that made Violet embarrassed. She had never been treated that way. Especially not by someone that was supposed to be her enemy.
They started to eat in silent, with none of them wanting to start the conversation. It was actually nice to enjoy the environment with just each other’s presence.
They both knew that as soon as they started talking, that pleasant feeling would be over.
But Violet was getting nervous as she didn’t know what the future hold for her.
“So, you said you had something to propose to me…” she started, cautiously looking at him.
That low light made the room very romantic and that handsome man in front of her, taking a sip from his glass of wine, wasn’t helping her brain behave properly.
Jack swallowed the wine and looked at her.
“I believe we can leave the proposition to the end. I wanted to know more about you. And you can ask me about the things you want to know about me, if you have anything of course. Let’s call it a truce tonight. What do you say?”
Violet considered that.
Of course she had plenty she wanted to know about him, but she also knew they didn’t trust each other, so who could guarantee he wouldn’t lie?
“Of course we need to be honest.” he completed like he could read her mind.
“Fine. What do you want to know?” Violet surrendered to his smile.
Jack drank the wine again as he chose what he should ask first.
The list of questions he had was endless.
“What do you do back at home? I mean… On your daily basis?”
Violet was surprised with that question.
“Won’t you ask me anything about my pack or why I’m here?” she asked stunned.
Jack nodded his head in denial.
“Not now. Like I said, I wanted to know more about you.”
Violet was moved by that, so she took a huge sip from her wine before she answered.
“Well, I don’t really do anything. I train, help my father with some useless chores. Now that I think about it, I’m not very useful.”
Jack clenched his eyes intrigued.
“And what would you like to do if you had the chance to choose something? Anything…” he continued.
Violet kept looking at him, realizing how her life was not exciting at all.
All she ever did was train to contain her inner wolf and live on the shadows of Arden. She had never really accomplished anything.
Did she have any hobbies at all?
“Well, that’s a very nice question. One I don’t know how to answer. I guess I never really thought about that. I kind of like to paint. Does that count?”
“Yeah, of course. It’s a really nice hobby actually.” Jack answered, paying a lot of attention to her.
Which was making Violet blush uncontrollably. It was a good thing it was kind of dark in the room.
“What about you? Despite the fact that you must work a lot, do you have any hobbies?” Violet wanted to know.
The mate bond was too strong for her to ignore. It was so easy to talk to him, like she didn’t have any concerns, no fears.
It was just the two of them, and Jack made her feel like she was able to do and be anything she wanted.
“I don’t really have much time for that, but I like to take a walk around the forest, watch the nature, see the moon…”
Violet instantly remembered about his tattoo. Suddenly, she wanted to know all about the meaning behind it.
“Is that why you have a tattoo of the moon?” she interrupted him.
Jack seemed a little surprised by her sudden interest, but that didn’t seem to bother him at all.
Actually, anyone could say that he was also enjoying to have that conversation with her.
“Partially, yes. But the tattoo is not really that meaningful as you might think. Despite the fact that I do love watching the moon, this is the symbol of the Rebels.” he explained.
“Ah… That makes sense. It’s very nice. I already said that, sorry…”
“Don’t need to apologize. You know…” Jack said as he got up from the chair.
The dinner was already over and Violet didn’t even realize it. Time was passing without her noticing it.
“I really wanted to change whatever idea you have of me. I don’t know what stories you heard, but I’m pretty sure I can prove you otherwise. But…”
Jack stopped with his back turned to her, and Violet was eager for him to look at her again. His eyes comforted her, and she liked the way she felt every time he analyzed her.
“But…?” she encouraged him to continue.
“I can’t let you go.” he looked at her. “Since you won’t tell me anything, I can’t really make that decision by myself. We have a council here, which kind of helps me decide some things regarding the pack.”
Violet frowned.
“A council? What do you mean? Aren’t you the Alpha? Why do you need help to decide anything?”
Arden did have a sort of council to help him make decisions about rules and that type of thing, but Arden always made the final decision; something Violet didn’t understand how it worked very well.
She was almost never aware of the matters of the Diamond Pack. It was like they thought she couldn’t add anything useful to them, so they kept her aside, saying that it was ‘just business’.
“I am. But we do have some rules here, which makes me appeal to them in some occasions. Since this is a case of an almost attempted murder, I can’t make the decision on my own.”
“So what does it mean? All this time they were going to decide if I was going to be killed or not? Did you trick me to believe that you were the almighty god here or something?” Violet bursted in rage.
They were going to kill her for sure. She was counting on Jack’s affection towards her to escape from death.
But now…
“Take it easy. I didn’t say I was the god of anything. Although I kind of am. But they need to approve my decision on this special occasion, because that never happened before. I always killed the ones that tried to kill me, so…”
Violet kept listening with attention.
“I thought about something, that’s why I decided to talk to you first. I’ll keep you here as a servant, working for us, so we can keep an eye on you.”
“What?” Violet yelled.
Jack raised his brows.
“You didn’t really think you’d get out of here, did you?” he asked in disbelief. “I mean… I’m trying to keep you alive.”
Violet realized that she didn’t have a choice. That was her new reality.
Going back home was out of the table.
At least until Arden decided to rescue her. If he ever did.
“I understand.” she said in a low voice. “Do you think they will accept that?”
“If I’m the one asking, probably. But you need to help me, you know? If you keep wanting to kill me, or even try to do so, I won’t have another choice but kill you. I won’t be this merciful with you twice.”
His eyes were studying her deeply.
Violet could feel the electricity that action provoked on her.
Jack stepped forward and stopped in front of her. He lowered his body to look inside her eyes, and once more, Violet felt her muscles tremble as she stared into his eyes.
“So I advise you to consider this carefully. Once the meeting with the council is summoned, I can promise you I’ll do my best to persuade them. But you’ll have to think about what you want for your future. Because you don’t have a lot of options now.”
