The Alpha’s Prisoner - Chapter 15
Jack walked to where Violet was and stopped in front of her.
“Well, I guess everything went on smoothly. You’re safe for now.”
“Am I?” Violet said sarcastically. “I don’t see how I can be safe working for people that hate me.”
Jack raised his brows at her.
“You’re gonna work for me, and I don’t remember saying that I hated you.” he said.
“You know what I mean…” Violet continued. “But since that’s my only option now, I think I should thank you for saving my life..”
“That’s more like it.” Jack concluded with a satisfying smile. “So, like I said, you’re going to work for me now. Be my personal assistant, if we can call it that.”
“And what exactly do you want me to do as your personal assistant, Mr. Morde?” Violet rolled her eyes, something that Jack ignored.
“You’ll just do some errands for me, bring me food when I’m too busy, accompany me in meetings, that type of stuff.” he explained.
“Meetings? What type of meetings?” Violet asked curious.
“The type we have on packs. Have you never been in one before?”
“No, I haven’t. I already told you I wasn’t very useful.” Violet said a little uncomfortable. “Aren’t you afraid that I’ll be listening to information about your pack?”
Jack laughed.
“So? What could you do with it?”
Violet gulped.
“You seem to think that you’ll have a chance to leave this place someday, when I already made very clear that you won’t.”
“I didn’t say that. I was just trying to say that this is something very audacious of you.”
“Yeah, well… I know what I’m doing, so you don’t need to worry about my decisions.”
Violet nodded and shut her mouth. She clearly didn’t need to warn him about such thing.
“You can go to your room now. Be sure to be at my office tomorrow morning. We’ll have a meeting at ten, so you can bring me my breakfast a little before that.”
“Okay.”
Jack took her back to her room, where Lucinda had already left something for her to eat before going to bed.
When he left, Violet suddenly felt an emptiness from his absence. It was really easy to get used to him being around.
Being at her room by herself, made Violet analyze everything that happened at the council meeting.
Morgana hated her and would make sure to keep an eye on Violet, which made the situation even harder for her to escape someday.
Also, she would have to work with Jack the whole time. That part was making her even more anxious and nervous.
How could she be around him without being with him? It was really hard to ignore what she felt every time that he got close to her.
Violet didn’t notice when exactly she fell asleep, but when she opened her eyes, the sunlight was already coming through the window.
She jumped from the bed, afraid to have missed the hour, but it was still very early.
There was enough time for her to take a shower and eat her breakfast before going to the kitchen to grab Jack’s meal.
Lucinda was very kind to show her the way to the kitchen and a few other rooms that would be useful during her stay there. If she could call it that.
“Thank you so much. I know you don’t need to be this nice to me, so I really appreciate it.” Violet said sincerely.
Lucinda gave her a warm smile in return.
“You don’t need to thank me. I’m pretty sure we’ll get along and I’m also pretty confident that you’ll change your mind about us eventually.” she concluded making a turn and leaving Violet in front of the kitchen.
That was also something that Violet kind of wished deep down. If she really had to live there for the rest of her life, it would be nice to have someone she could trust and that liked her.
She entered the kitchen and Jack’s breakfast was already prepared in a tray above the kitchen counter.
“Good morning. So you’re the new assistant?” an old lady came towards Violet with a very gentle and soft voice.
Her cheeks were red from the heat of the kitchen, but she had the most welcoming smile.
“Yes! I’m sorry… My name is Violet.”
“I know who you are, dear. My name is Mary. If you need anything from the kitchen, feel free to contact me. This place barely works without me.” she said with a lot of pride.
Violet was moved by her warm greeting. It still surprised her how well the few people she met actually treated her very nicely.
Lucinda, Mary…
Why would they treat her so well? Not even people with a respectful status on the Diamond Pack were treated like that.
And Violet was the enemy there. At least that’s how they should see her.
“Thank you very much. I’ll make sure to look for you. I need to go now, Jack must be waiting for his breakfast.”
“Yes, yes! Go! He is not in a good mood when he’s hungry.”
Violet smiled and left the kitchen, taking the stairs to Jack’s office.
It took her a while to remember the way to the room, but she was very good with memorizing maps and places, so it wasn’t that hard.
She knocked three times before his voice told her to come in.
“Good morning.” she said in a low voice. It was really weird to serve him like that. “I brought your breakfast.”
Jack was looking outside, contemplating something or maybe just thinking. Violet couldn’t say.
But it took him a while to look at her.
She filled the cup in the tray with coffee and took it to him.
Only then he looked at her.
The sunlight was reflecting on his grayish green eyes which made it even more hypnotizing.
He grabbed the cup from her hands, touching her fingers in the process.
That little skin contact provoked an electric current to go through Violet’s body, making her retreat immediately.
“Thank you.” he said before taking a sip from the coffee. “Did you sleep well? How are you feeling?”
Violet was caught off guard with his questions. It was still awkward for her when he showed some interest on her life or her well-being.
“Yes, I did sleep well. And I’m fine. Can’t really complain. The people from your pack is actually treating me really nicely. I don’t understand why.”
Jack smiled through his coffee.
“Hm… I believe I may have slipped that you are my mate.”
“You what?!” Violet yelled in shock. “Why would you do that? That’s why they treat me like this?”
That made much more sense to her. But still made her upset for being treated that way only because of her status, if their bond could be called that.
“I think it helps, but they wouldn’t treat you like this just because of that. It happens that we are actually nice and peaceful people. With a few rotten apples, of course. Nothing is perfect, right?”
And Violet had no idea that one of the rotten apples he was referring to was going to appear in her life a few hours later.
And it would cause a big mess.
