The Alpha’s Prisoner - Chapter 18
Violet woke up on the next day feeling really weird.
She had a lot of nightmares about her dying, and also a few dreams with Jack. Those wore even worst than the nightmares.
The conversation they had on the previous night felt very genuine and sincere to Violet.
She kind of felt a little more relieved after she explained some things to him.
She didn’t know how things would turn out to be from that moment on, but the fact that he seemed to believe her was more than enough.
But it was getting very hard to resist him. Violet was having dirty dreams every night with him, and even during the day.
Jack caught her daydreaming twice during the first hours of the day, and Violet was very thankful that he couldn’t read her mind.. She was really embarrassed for thinking those things.
A few people from the Rebels started to look differently at her after Kate’s attack. Apparently the fight had gotten to their ears. But it wasn’t as bad as she expected it to be.
From what Lucinda told when she brought Violet her breakfast, Kate wasn’t very nice to the members of the Rebels, so most of them didn’t really like her.
Two girls passed by Violet after lunch and gave her a thumbs up, which shocked her.
The rest of the day went on very quickly, with Violet doing everything she could to stay away from Jack. Which was really hard to do since she was his personal assistant.
When he said that he would have a council’s meeting to discuss some important business, and that she didn’t need to be present, Violet stormed out of his office.
Lucinda had left some snacks on her bedroom, and after the shower, Violet devoured everything.
Thinking about what to do, since she had left earlier from her servant duties, Violet remembered the painting tools that Jack had left for her.
She took the box from the wardrobe and started painting the view from her window.
The sun was already setting and the twilight was one of the most beautiful she had ever seen.
Violet didn’t know how long she stood there, until she heard a knock on the door.
She thought it was Lucinda bringing dinner, but she was very wrong.
A man she had never seen before was standing on the other side.
“Hi, can I help you?” Violet said, trying to sound gentle and polite.
The man seemed very frightened and looked from side to side of the hallway, like he was being chased or watched.
“I need to talk to you. It’s really important.” he said in a low voice.
“Sure. What is it?” Violet was starting to get worried.
She had never seen that man in her life, and couldn’t imagine what he could possibly want to talk to her that was so important.
“Arden sent me to talk to you.” he said.
Violet almost fell on the floor. Her legs gave in for a moment, but she pulled herself together immediately.
She couldn’t show her emotional side to anyone like that.
“What do you mean?” her voice came out with difficulty.
“He asked me to check on you. I’m one of the undercover spies from the Diamond Pack. I’ve been keeping an eye on you, and Arden is already aware of everything.”
Her eyes shivered and she felt a pain on her stomach.
Was that man going to rescue her? Could she go home?
“He is already working on something to take you home.” the man continued as he looked from left to right in a hurry.
That was making Violet even more disturbed. What if someone heard them?
They would make it even harder for her to escape.
But suddenly, something clicked inside her mind.
She knew who Arden’s spies were. They had provided the map to her and some information about Jack before the mission.
They also didn’t have access to the mansion. They couldn’t be there.
Unless Arden did something bold and was able to infiltrate someone.
The man on the door was testing her. Was that Jack’s idea? Or Arden’s?
Violet was puzzled and didn’t know what to do.
Her head was in a chaos.
“Really?” Violet asked trying to get more time to think. “What should I do then?”
The man looked a little disconcerted.
“Well, there’s not much you can do for now. Just wait. But I need to get some information back to him, so he can understand what he’ll be fighting against when he comes to get you out.”
“He’ll come by himself? Won’t he send the guards? That’s too risky, it doesn’t sound like Arden at all.” Violet said, trying to frame the man.
She wouldn’t give him any information, even if he really was from the Diamond Pack.
She was getting more confused as time passed. Being inside the Rebels made Violet reconsider a lot of things.
She couldn’t help believing in everything that Jack said to her. He didn’t seem like the bad guy at all.
“Look, I don’t have much time. Someone can show up at any minute. Just tell me something valuable that can help him get you out. Maybe some of Jack’s weaknesses or how they could take you out and cause some mess at the same time…”
The man was rushing her, but Violet wasn’t feeling comfortable. Her guts were telling her to shut the door and stay quiet.
She was facing very weird and unexpected questions inside her mind. Did she really want to leave? Leave Jack behind and go back to the palace?
Why did things have to be so complicated?
“You know what? I don’t have anything to tell Arden. If he wants to discover something, his spies can do it for him. I won’t say anything.” she said slamming the door on his face and turning the key.
She didn’t want to risk having an angry man inside her room.
Violet stayed quiet inside, trying to listen to some noise on the outside. Anything that could tell her that the man was gone.
And suddenly she felt the urge to find Jack. He had a way to calm her down, to make her not worry about anything, even though she was his prisoner.
How could she think of him out of all people, when she was in that situation because of him?
Or was it because of Arden? If he didn’t send her on that stupid mission, she would never be made a prisoner.
And thinking about that, about how Arden just left her there to Jack’s mercy, made her really pissed.
She knew the risks she was taking when she left the palace, but Arden didn’t give her a choice.
Despite the fact that he always treated her well and gave her a home and a family, the way Jack treated her was way more loving and thoughtful than Arden ever did.
But could Jack really love her completely one day? Even if she was from the Diamond Pack? Even if she was his enemy’s daughter?
Could she?
