The Alpha’s Prisoner - Chapter 20
Violet couldn’t stop thinking about the man that had showed up on her door a few hours before.
It took a while for her to calm down and realize he was gone for good.
If someone had known that she had that encounter, she would hear about it soon. She just hoped that she hadn’t said anything that would incriminate her even more.
Every time something happened, she would get a bad anxiety about her death being near. She couldn’t live like that.
She had to make a life changing decision soon. She couldn’t live like a prisoner forever.
But what side was she going to chose?
Violet was lying on her bed, staring at the ceiling, when a knock took her out of her thoughts..
Her heart started to beat like a drum.
She was doomed now. She pretended to be sleeping when a well known voice came from the other side.
“Violet, it’s Lucinda. Open the door.”
Sighing in relief, Violet got up from the bed and opened the door for the woman.
“Jack asked me to take you to his room. He wants to show you something.” Lucinda whispered so no one could hear her.
“Why are you whispering? There’s no one here. And also, why do I need to go to his room?”
Violet was feeling nervous all of a sudden. She had never been to his room before. So why now?
What did he want with her?
“I’m whispering because we don’t want anyone making up more gossips about you. And I don’t know what he wants. I still follow orders here.” Lucinda smiled with fondness. “Now come on!”
Lucinda turned her back to Violet so she could follow her, and Violet took that opportunity to straighten her hair and her flowery dress.
She wasn’t really dressed to meet him, although still presentable. They only gave her nice clothes, but if she had an opportunity to change, she would have chosen something with a little more fabric.
Her legs were too exposed, but Lucinda was walking really fast, and when Violet thought about asking her to change her clothes, she was already in front of Jack’s door.
Lucinda knocked three times and his voice told them to get in.
She grabbed Violet by her arm and tossed the girl inside, closing the door right after, not giving Violet any time to think or say anything.
“What…” she said startled, surprised by the way Lucinda simply pushed her inside and left.
“Good evening, Violet.”
Jack was looking outside of the window, wearing a casual black shirt and some jeans, which made Violet remember about her dreams.
She shook her head, trying to focus.
She looked away, paying attention for the first time in the space around her.
His room was way bigger than hers, and was really well organized and clean.
He had a shelf with a lot of books in one wall, a table with some papers and a lamp, a wardrobe and his bed.
Violet gulped and looked at him again.
His hair was wet from the shower and his scent was coming straight to Violet’s nostrils.
What was she going to do trapped inside that room with him?
Jack’s eyes were piercing her, which made Violet feel hot inside. He looked her up and down, taking a few more seconds on her bare legs.
She knew it wasn’t a good idea to go with that dress to his room.
“Good evening.” she finally replied. “Why did you call me here?”
“I had a very bad day and guess what I heard a while ago, when I finally thought the day was over?”
Violet gulped down again.
“I don’t know. What did you hear?” she asked with a low voice, feeling very unconfident.
“It got to my ears that you had a visit in your room tonight asking things about me. It kind of made me wonder what you must have told him.”
“I didn’t say anything.” Violet said in her defense. “He said he was a spy from the Diamond Pack, but I don’t think he was.”
“You’re very clever. He wasn’t.” Jack simply said.
Violet looked shocked, even though it was already something she suspected.
“It was you, right? You were testing me!” she said astounded.
She could feel her heart already tightening.
“Actually, it wasn’t. I wasn’t aware of this since a couple hours ago. But I can’t say I wasn’t impressed that you really had the chance to betray me, but you didn’t.”
Violet look inside his eyes. What was he trying to say?
“You know… We are not lucky people. Destiny really laughed at us by putting the both of us as enemies in this life. But can you really fight this?” Jack pointed at the two of them, and Violet was more than sure that he was referring to that energy running through them inside the room.
It was suffocating. Frustrating. Intimidating. But also satisfying.
If only she could get close to him, touch him…
Violet lowered her head, feeling upset all of a sudden.
It didn’t make sense to keep that information from him anymore, so she just decided to come clean.
“I can’t really do anything.”
“What do you mean?” Jack’s voice sounded very curious but urgent.
But Violet didn’t have the courage to look inside his eyes as she explained it.
“The Diamond Pack has a rule about mates. We can’t bond with them. It’s extremely forbidden.”
But Violet looked up immediately as Jack’s voice came out as shocked and surprised as she expected it to be.
“What?!”
