The Alpha’s Prisoner - Chapter 24
Jack arrived at his office, and thankfully, he didn’t have a busy morning.
Some time before lunch, he asked Morgana to come talk to him.
A few minutes later, those purple eyes were staring at him, with crossed arms and with an unfriendly expression.
“Good morning, Morgana. How are you feeling today?” he asked lively, trying to enlighten the atmosphere before coming up with the subject.
“You know, not very good. But thank you for asking.” the woman answered a little impatient.
Jack raised his brows..
“Did something happen?”
“No, I just had an argument with Peter and unintentionally made some jars levitate and hit him. Not a big deal though.”
“Unintentionally, huh?” Jack smiled. “I’m sure he deserved it.”
That seemed to make Morgana more open to the conversation.
She sat on the chair in front of Jack’s table and he offered her a glass of wine, after he served some whisky for himself.
“It’s not even noon yet. Why are you offering me wine?” Morgana asked intrigued.
“Well, I have a proposition to make, and I think a little alcohol can help you accept it more openly.”
Morgana’s smile fade away instantly.
“Why do I feel your proposition is not something that will please me?”
“Because it won’t. But I really need you to consider this. And I’m asking as your friend, not your leader.” Jack stated with confidence.
Morgana seemed a little worried, especially because Jack rarely asked her any favors as a friend.
The members of the Rebels respected Jack’s position completely. Even though some discrepancies and divergencies happened sometimes, they almost never went against Jack.
After all, he was an amazing leader and had never disappointed any of them before.
“What is it, Jack?” Morgana asked curious and cautious.
He drank his whisky with one shot and stared at her with serious eyes.
Morgana wasn’t intimidated though.
“I need you to train Violet.”
Morgana opened her mouth in shock.
“You’re kidding, right?”
“No, I’m not. In fact, I hardly spoke so serious in my life.”
“Why would I train her? And for what?” Morgana asked still incredulous.
As long as she thought about it, the least sense it made.
Jack got up on his feet and started to walk around the room.
Morgana followed him with her eyes.
“I’m almost certain, and I’ll need your opinion on that, that Violet is also a sorceress, just like you.”
“She is what?” Morgana widened her eyes even more. “How could she be a sorceress? She doesn’t have any powers. She can’t even shift because of the drugs. That wouldn’t prevent me from shifting or using my abilities.”
“Violet was trained since really young to suppress her powers. She was never able to let it develop fully, so she doesn’t have any experience with that. She doesn’t believe me either. She thinks I’m insane.” Jack explained.
“I have to agree with her on that one.” Morgana huffed.
“Morgana, come on. You know how you suffered to learn everything by yourself. Imagine being on her shoes. Having your whole family making you restrain your powers, forbidding you to grow and let loose all the energy you have inside.”
Morgana stared into his eyes. That statement seemed to have an impact on her.
“Don’t use that against me.” she warned him. “I really don’t trust that girl, and you know that.”
“I do. But I need you and the others to help me bring her to light. She is not that faithful to the Diamond Pack anymore. I can feel it. I can’t stand to see her inhibiting her powers like that, or even consider letting her go back.”
Morgana didn’t say anything.
“I could use all the help I can get. And there’s no one I trust more than you. I know you don’t like her, but please give her a chance. For me.”
Morgana sighed and rolled her eyes.
“Fine. You don’t have to do that puppy face with me. It doesn’t work.” she complained.
And that made Jack smile, because it had clearly worked. She just didn’t like to give in.
Jack came towards her and gave Morgana a very tight hug, pulling her out of the chair.
“Thank you. I knew I could count on you.”
“Hum…” Morgana muttered grudgingly.
“Just think of her as your apprentice. Don’t make her life too hard, ok?” Jack added with a pitiful face.
“Yeah, don’t push it. I wouldn’t count on that.” Morgana said pushing Jack away.
“Morgana…” he repeated.
The woman was already making her way to the door, willing to leave that place and vent her anger somewhere else.
Jack knew that he asked too much from her, but they were friends for a really long time, and even though Morgana had a bad temper, she had a good heart.
And she was extremely powerful and smart, so there was no one better for Violet to learn from.
But would they be ok working together? Could he really trust Morgana with that mission?
