The Alpha’s Prisoner - Chapter 35
“You’re kidding me, right?” Jack seemed incredulous. “You can’t be serious!”
“No, I have never been more serious in my entire life. If Arden is someone bad like you say he is, it must have something to prove his doings. I can find it and take it back to you.” Violet explained.
Jack released her from his arms in disbelief.
“You just need to let me go. I promise I’ll get back.” Violet continued. “I’ll tell them that I escaped and will try to find anything that you can use to take him out of power.”
Jack was speechless..
She knew that was a bold move and that Jack wouldn’t agree at first, but she would convince him. It was the only chance she had to be at peace with him.
If Arden was that bad, she had to do something.
“You just need to promise me that you won’t kill anyone. You just have to overthrow him. With a good evidence, you won’t have to kill anyone.”
“You must be insane to think that I’ll ever allow you to go on a suicide mission like that.”
“Don’t you trust me? I will come back to you.” Violet said grabbing his face.
“That’s not what I’m worried about, Violet. This is too dangerous. If he finds out that you’re trying to steal something from him, he will kill you. In a heartbeat. It doesn’t matter if you’re his adoptive daughter or not.” Jack said desperate.
Violet widened her eyes.
“He wouldn’t… He would never kill me.” she said in a low voice, because she was actually doubting her words.
Could Arden really kill her? She couldn’t even imagine him hurting her, let alone kill her.
“Don’t think too high of himself. I know who he is. And I can assure you that he wouldn’t even hesitate.” Jack continued.
He put his hands up, helplessly messing up his hair.
“Jack, please. I would never ask you this kind of thing if I wasn’t sure I could actually find something good. Wasn’t this what you wanted all your life? To prove that Arden isn’t a good leader?”
“Yes, but I don’t want to risk you for that. It’s not worth it!” he screamed. “I would never put you in danger to prove anything. Can you imagine how I’m going to feel if anything happens to you because of that?” he looked at her with teary eyes. “I won’t be able to live with myself, Violet.”
“Everything will be fine. And we can come with up a plan. If something happens, you can send backup.”
“Violet, please, don’t ask me that. I can’t allow you to go.”
The sadness in his eyes were clear like water now.
“You have to, Jack. I can’t live as your prisoner forever. You need to trust me and let me be free. And you won’t ever trust me fully if I don’t do something like that. I need to prove my loyalty to you by coming back to you.”
“No, you don’t! I do trust you. I was just being an idiot before. I already apologized for that!” he tried desperately to convince Violet to change her mind.
But for the first time in her life, she was more than sure about what she had to do.
She had to choose her side. To live in peace with herself and with Jack, Violet had to see for herself the bad things that Arden was doing.
And Jack had to see with his own eyes that she chose him, instead of Arden or anyone else.
Only then they would be able to live a happy life.
“Jack, I made my mind. If you don’t want to keep me here as your prisoner, you have to let me go. I just need to train a little more, so I can be able to use my powers to protect myself.”
Jack looked at her without saying a word. She doubted he had anything to say actually.
“I don’t trust Morgana. But I know she’s the only one that can help me now. So, you need to have a little chat with her. I need a truce for the time being.” Violet explained.
That was the only way she could ever be able to defend herself from the Diamond Pack if they tried to do something to her.
She didn’t want to believe that Arden would do anything to harm her, but she couldn’t take any chances now.
There was a lot at stake.
Jack huffed from feeling powerless. He should be the one risking himself to give Violet and the werewolves the best life they could ever have.
Not the other way around.
He knew she was powerful and able to handle herself. But he didn’t want to stay seated waiting for her to risk her life alone.
What did that make him?
But Violet didn’t seem willing to give up on that idea. Which was a really good one.
He could never put his hands on anything compromising to incriminate Arden from outside of those walls.
He would also never ask something of that sort to Violet. It was her family after all.
But the fact that she wanted to throw all that away to stay with him meant a lot.
“I will be on guard for anything. At the least sign of you being in danger, I’ll invade those walls, I don’t even care who I’ll have to kill to get you out.” he said firmly.
Violet smiled softly.
“I thought you had promised not to kill anyone.”
“I didn’t promise anything. And if it comes out to choose between you and anyone else, I don’t think I even have to tell you what would be my choice.”
“Okay, we have a deal then. You talk to Morgana and I’ll try to give you a map of the palace. I don’t know the positions of all guards, but I think I can help by telling you how things work inside, if you need to enter. But you can’t do anything in an impulse, because it could ruin the plan.” Violet explained.
Jack nodded, not able to come up with something nice to say. He was still trying to digest what was going on.
“Now, you should go to bed, because tomorrow you have to talk to Morgana. We can’t waste time.” Violet said, pushing him towards the door.
“What? You won’t even let me sleep with you?” Jack asked with puppy eyes.
Violet rolled her eyes.
“Jack, I’m exhausted. You won’t let me sleep if you stay here, so… You should just go to your bedroom.” Violet said.
But Jack didn’t seem convinced.
“I won’t do anything. I promise. I’ll just lay here and sleep like a little angel.” he joked, throwing himself on her bed.
Violet smiled and went towards him.
“Jack, come on. You know you won’t be able to keep that promise.”
He raised his head to look at her with a mischievous smile.
“I won’t do anything unless you want me to.”
And once again, Violet wasn’t able to resist him.
And as she put her head on his chest to finally sleep, she realized that she would never want to give up on that.
Sleeping near him every night is how she wanted to spend every day for the rest of her life.
