The Alpha’s Prisoner - Chapter 40
The day of the party had finally arrived.
Violet could barely sleep during the night overthinking about her plan.
What would she say if she got caught inside the office?
What if she failed? When would she have another opportunity like that?
The palace was at full throttle with the last preparations for the party.
Violet woke up and went outside to catch some fresh air.
The weather was pretty nice and everyone looked really excited.
That was always the case when Arden threw a party.
Violet thought she probably was the only one not happy about it..
“Hey, Vi!” a delicate voice called her from somewhere. “Over here.”
Violet turned to look and saw Gwen coming at her direction.
She had her hands full with something that Violet couldn’t recognize.
“What is that?”
“Our dresses. I just got them from the store. Come on, let’s try this on you.” the girl said grabbing Violet’s hand and pulling her upstairs.
She spent the whole afternoon with Gwen, trying their clothes, doing make up and their hairs.
It was actually nice to have those moments with Gwen. It was a really good sisters time.
Violet felt really nostalgic every time she thought about how Gwen would be affected by that whole plan, but she tried her hardest not to give space to those thoughts.
Gwen had prepared a cute green dress for her, something really comfortable and totally Violet’s style, which she appreciated.
When they were finally ready, they went downstairs where the party was going to happen.
The palace had a sort of ballroom where Arden always held parties for the pack. It was an enormous room where a lot of people could fit in without being piled up each other.
The music was loud, the members were noisy and cheerful, the food smelled delicious and the drinks were incredible.
The decoration was also very nice, something that Violet made sure to tell Gwen.
The girl showed her beautiful smile to her sister when she heard the compliment.
During long hours, all Violet could do was to make sure she didn’t lose Arden from her sight.
Also, she was keeping an eye on Mr. Anderson as well, just in case he went upstairs before Arden. He was a sign that Arden was going to be after him.
But the men didn’t seem to want to go anywhere.
Violet was tired and her shoulders were tense with anticipation.
When she was almost giving up from waiting and risking everything to go to the office before Arden, she saw Mr. Anderson going towards him.
That was it. The moment had arrived.
But suddenly, someone blocked out Violet’s vision.
It was an old lady, the most annoying one from the Diamond Pack. Violet never liked her, because she was always after some topic to gossip about.
“Violet, my dear. You look stunning!” she yelled at Violet’s ear as she hugged her against her will.
Violet smiled with politeness, trying to find Arden again.
He was climbing the stairs with Mr. Anderson by his side, the two men talking very lively.
“Arden said this is a party to celebrate your return. I didn’t know you had been kidnapped by the Rebels.”
Kidnapped? That wasn’t exactly the word for it.
“Oh… I…” she couldn’t focus on the conversation now that Arden had vanished from her sight.
She had to keep an eye on him, otherwise he could go somewhere after the conversation with Mr. Anderson, and she wouldn’t know if he was gone for good.
She had to go after him immediately.
But the woman didn’t seem eager to leave.
“Actually, it wasn’t exactly a kidnap, but I’m okay now. Everything turned out to be fine.” she said, already dodging the woman.
“But why did they kidnap you? What did they want with you? Did they want to kill you?”
“What? No… Why would they want to kill me?” Violet asked a little absent-minded.
She wasn’t paying attention, and the old lady was holding her arm so she wouldn’t leave without giving her the information she wanted.
“Well, they are our enemies, aren’t they? What better way to provoke our leader than messing with one of his daughters?”
“You know what, Mrs. Margaret? I was going on an undercover mission for the Diamond Pack, and I was caught. That’s what happened. Look…” Violet continued as the woman seemed really shocked with the sudden explanation. “I need go to the toilet. Please, excuse me.”
Violet didn’t wait for the woman to reply. She released her arm and went straight upstairs, going the same way that Arden and Mr. Anderson had taken a few minutes before.
Violet was really glad that no guard was present on the hallways at that moment.
Usually they would have a few hours off duty to enjoy the party. They would take turns to do the rounds on the gates of the wall, and a few others would make rounds on the ballroom, checking to see if everything was alright between the guests.
So basically, it was pretty clear inside the place. Violet just had to be careful not to bump into anyone that lived there.
She entered the room next to Arden’s office, so she could hear if they got out.
Once she passed in front of the door to his office, she heard the men talking loudly.
She wished she had the ability to hear through walls, that way she could know what they were talking about.
Long minutes passed and Violet was getting angry. Why weren’t they coming out?
The door from the room where she was waiting was slightly opened so she could see what was happening on the hallway.
And suddenly she heard the two voices becoming louder.
They were coming out.
She saw they leave the hallway and waited a few minutes to make sure Arden wasn’t coming back.
Her chance had finally arrived.
Violet sneaked out of the room and went towards Arden’s office.
She looked from left to right before grabbing the doorknob. There was no one there. Only her.
And then she twisted her hand, but nothing happened because the door was locked.
