The Alpha’s Prisoner - Chapter 42
Violet paralyzed.
She couldn’t think about what to do with that information.
But she had to leave that office immediately, otherwise Arden could come in and see her with all those papers in her hand.
With her eyes full of tears, Violet grabbed what she thought it would be useful and put the boxes and files back on the cabinet.
She locked it and put the key behind the painting again and left the office, without being able to think about what to do next.
She couldn’t stay in the palace anymore. She couldn’t even imagine how she would face Arden after that discovery.
Her heart was full of sadness but also anger. All the years she had spent under Arden’s wings, all the time she had been grateful for him adopting her, now it was just trash..
Because he had been responsible for her not having her parents by her side. He had been responsible for her being an orphan.
And also Lance.
He shouldn’t be aware of that either. Even though his parents had died when he was older than Violet was when her parents got killed, Lance was still really young, so of course he didn’t know about it.
Otherwise, how could he accept being with Arden all this time?
Violet rushed blindly to her room, praying that no one saw her.
She entered the room and locked the door. She had to leave immediately.
She couldn’t wait to see if Arden would miss the papers she stole or not. It was too dangerous.
If he was cold to the point where he would raise the children of people he murdered with his own hands, what would he do to Violet if he discovered what she was up to?
Violet grabbed a backpack and started to take everything she would need to start her life from the bottom.
She took a few clothes that she loved, some books and the documents and tossed everything inside the bag.
She changed her clothes to something more comfortable so she could have better mobility and left the room, going in another direction.
She would have to leave from the backdoor, because the party was happening in the ballroom and every guest was arriving and leaving from the front gate.
If anyone saw Violet leaving with a backpack during the party, they would definitely be suspicious of her.
With her heart pounding insanely and her head trying to ignore the fact that she was terrified, Violet left the palace and started to walk through the streets, walking towards the walls.
How could she leave without the guards being suspicious of her? Did Arden give any orders to them after she was back from Jack’s mansion?
If that was the case, she would have to come up with a very good excuse.
She decided to leave from the gate that had the least guards. One that wasn’t really used because it was the furthest and people didn’t really like to walk there.
It only had one guard at the moment that Violet got there.
Gasping, Violet stopped to think about what to say.
She looked back a few times during the route to see if she was being followed, but everything was clear.
Now she only had one more obstacle to go through.
“Good evening, miss.” the guard said as he saw Violet.
“Hi! I… Arden asked me to do something. It’s about my previous mission. I need to recover that dagger immediately.”
The man looked at her with a puzzled expression.
“Well, you wouldn’t know what dagger I’m talking about since it was a secret mission, of course. But it’s really urgent.”
Would he believe that? Violet had a little more credibility because she was the daughter of the Alpha, so the guards didn’t really interrogate her.
But anything could happen, so she had to be prepared.
The man raised his brows at her, a little intrigued.
“We were not informed about that.”
Violet couldn’t hear him properly because her blood was pumping inside her veins with a lot of pressure.
“Something came up. We have to act immediately, that’s why he asked me to do it, since I was the one that went the last time.” she explained, looking back again.
“I need to check with my superior.” the guard said already grabbing the device to communicate with someone.
“Don’t you believe me? Do you want me to tell Arden that you were the one that prevented me from going and ruining the whole plan?” she said sounding a little threatening.
The guy widened his eyes and put the device back on his belt.
“Er… Okay then. You can go!” he replied a little nervous.
She sighed and grabbed her bag with more strength as she walked towards the gate.
She was almost out.
Just a few more steps and then she would be on the other side, away from Arden’s control.
But when Violet finally thought the mission had been successful, when she thought that at any minute now she would be inside Jack’s arms, being hugged and comforted by him, she heard someone calling her name.
But it wasn’t the voice she was expecting to hear.
It wasn’t Jack.
She staggered and stopped walking.
And when she looked back, Lance was looking at her with very curious and confused eyes.
They ran from her face to the backpack in her arms, and he seemed to be connecting the dots.
“Violet, what are you doing?”
