The Alpha’s Prisoner - Chapter 45
Violet could feel her senses coming back as she opened her eyes.
It took a few minutes to understand where she was.
The place wasn’t very comfortable and had a strong smell of ether.
The lights on the ceiling were too strong and she had to adjust her sight to it.
Blinking a few times, Violet tried to sit on whatever she was laid on, but her whole body was sore.
“I can see you’re finally awake!” she heard a voice coming from her side.
When she turned her head in that direction, Violet got really surprised, because she did not expect to see the woman in front of her.
“Morgana?” she asked, still confused..
She gave her a timid smile in return.
“Where am I?” Violet asked looking around.
It looked a lot like a ward.
“It’s a sort of hospital at the mansion. It isn’t that big, but it serves us well.” she answered.
“What happened?” Violet wanted to know. She could just remember feeling an awful pain and blacking out. “Where’s Jack?”
“Well, he went to his room to take a shower. He’s been staying here for days.”
“Really?” Violet asked surprised.
She was actually moved for hearing that, and also glad that he was okay.
“About what happened, I must confess that what you did really impressed me. I didn’t expect you were going to risk everything for Jack. Or us.” Morgana said sympathetically.
Violet didn’t know what to say to respond to that.
“They said that you risked your life to save the files, and I didn’t really think you’d go until the end with this plan.” Morgana continued. “I am really sorry for treating you the way I did.”
Violet could see how Morgana was having a lot of difficulty to say those words.
“It’s okay. I understand why you had to treat me like that. I’d probably do the same if the situation was reversed.” Violet said with honesty, because she really understood.
She was only trying to protect her family.
Violet had a lot to ask, but she thought that Morgana wasn’t the best person to answer her questions.
Especially because she wasn’t present at the fight.
“I’m gonna let you rest a little more. Jack will be here soon, I’m sure. He doesn’t do anything else besides staying here waiting for you to wake up. Lucinda and Mary also came by to check on you.”
Violet felt her heart become really warm with all that affection towards her.
She nodded, afraid that if she said anything, she would start to cry.
Morgana left her alone at the ward, with only her thoughts.
She was dying to know what had happened after she fainted, but she wanted to hear it from Jack.
And after a few minutes, she saw the man entering the room with the most bright smile on his face.
“I can’t believe you’re awake.” he said grabbing her and giving the tighter hug she ever received.
“Ouch!” she murmured, since her body was still aching.
“I’m sorry. I’m just so happy to see you well. You are feeling well, right?” he asked concerned.
“Yes, I’m fine. Just a bit sore, but I’m sure it will be okay in a few days.” she answered.
Jack sat on the chair beside the bed and grabbed her hand.
The intensity his eyes had upon her were too much to handle.
“I was really afraid I’d lose you.” he said in a low voice.
Violet smiled softly.
“What happened, by the way? I just remember seeing them chasing you and then I was attacked.”
He leaned against the chair, still holding her hand.
“I found the bag, and ran to give it to someone else so they could bring it here and keep it safe. But the guards saw me and decided to chase me instead.”
Violet nodded following the story.
“But then I heard your roar and saw that man, Phillip, bitting you, and I got blind with rage. I just tossed the bag to someone from the Rebels and went after him.”
Violet widened her eyes in shock.
“So, did you kill him?”
Jack stared seriously into her eyes before he answered.
“I won’t lie that’s what I wanted to do at first, but against my will, I decided to let him live. I took him as a prisoner.”
Violet didn’t know what to do with that information though.
“Do you think he is going to say something?”
“Not exactly. But I thought that maybe we could try.” he shrunk his shoulders.
“And what about… Lance?” she asked afraid.
She didn’t know if she wanted to know the answer to that question.
Jack looked away before he answered.
“When I saw that he attacked you, I almost gave up on the bag. He was coming after me, but you stopped him. And then, when I saw that you had protected yourself with the shield, I continued to go after the bag.”
Violet couldn’t blink waiting for the answer.
“But when I saw that Phillip almost killed you, I had to do something. But then Lance came in his defense, and I…”
“You what? Jack, tell me, what happened to Lance? Is he dead?” her voice was trembling with sadness.
“I don’t know, Violet. I hurt him really bad, but I wanted to bring you to the hospital, so I didn’t wait to see.” Jack answered looking down. He seemed pretty sad that his actions could have upset her.
She didn’t want to think about Lance being dead.
She had promised herself that she would convince him and show him all the bad things that Arden had done.
“Were you able to save the documents?”
Her heart was beating really fast.
“Yes. That’s something we need to talk about. What do you want to do about it?”
